Reading Reading: This week we continued working on the skill of making inferences. When you make inferences, you combine what you already know with what you are reading to help you understand the text. Encourage your child to make inferences as they read. Daily Five: listen to reading, read to self, read to someone, work on writing and seatwork
Spelling next week: word endings –ce /-ve /-

With the changing weather, this will be the last week that we will have the bike racks out for students to use. Starting next week we are asking that students no longer ride their bikes to school. Custodial staff will be putting the bike racks away for the season.
Unit Studies
Science: This week we used a simple balance to determine how much water lima bean seeds can soak up overnight. We learned that the three parts of a seed are the seed coat, embryo and cotyledon.
Enrichment: We continued to work on 6 Traits of Writing: organization and our Dictionary Packet
Social Studies: Map Skills – Using a Map Grid, Next week we will identify features of a suburban community, compare urban and suburban areas, and learn why people settle in suburban areas. We have also been using Time for Kids current events magazine in our classes!
