March 22, 2013 Mrs. Kuecker’s 3 rd Grade Room 210 Star of the Week HI! My name is Rodnie Jones. I have a dog named Sugar. I like soccer, going to Mankato, and tacos. My favorite books are the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” books. Reading This week in reading we continued working with the skill Determining Importance”. When you read, it is important to think about whether information in the text is important or just interesting. We started new guided group books and looked for important facts in the text we read. Daily 5: read to self, read to someone, writing, and Mark your calendars! Our West side Third Grade Concert is scheduled for March 26 th at the High School. Third grade will be at 6:15 PM, with 4 th grade to follow. The students are Unit Studies In Science this week we created a “Sound” poem about sounds we like and those we don’t. We began a new unit on the sun, earth and moon called “System in the Sky”. In social studies we started chapter 5—we will continue working our through chapter 5 and finish up with our famous research project to end the year. Other Important Information: ***PTA CARNIVAL: Mark your calendar, the PTA Carnival will be held on Friday, April 5 th ! The PTA is looking for volunteers to make this giant fundraiser successful! Remember that the MCA’s are coming soon! If your child works on Study Island, they will be better prepared for both the math and reading portions of the test. Any minutes they spend on the reading portion of Study Island can be recorded on their monthly reading calendars.

Unit Studies

Be Prepared

The weather is very unpredictable this time of year, so please remember to send the appropriate clothes with your child. The children play outside each morning and each noon, unless it’s below zero or raining. Remember to also label all clothing in case it gets lost.
