University-Based Experiences and Partnerships
Field Placement Supervisor (August 2011-Present)
South Dakota State University, College of Education and Human Sciences
Place Professional Semester I-III students in area schools for field
experiences.
Coordinate the SDSU Online Teacher Certification Program
Develop relationships with area principals and teachers to facilitate
placements.
Assign and collaborate with the university supervisors who serve as
liaisons among the teacher candidates, the cooperating teachers, and the
University.
Plan and present informational sessions (including co-teaching) for
teacher candidates, cooperating teachers, and university supervisors.
Trouble-shoot problems that arise in the course of the field experiences.
Supervise, evaluate, and mentor up to 10 PSII and PSIII students per
semester.
Facilitate, critique, and collaborate with teacher candidates in SEED 420L
micro-teaching labs.
Coordinate the evaluation process for all field experiences
Trained in SDEA’s Train the Trainer for Student Learning Objectives
(2014)
Trained in the SDSU Education Department’s Professional Semester
program (1992).
Served as a cooperating teacher for a minimum of two PSI and two PSII
students almost every semester (1995-2011).
Instructed a University of South Dakota extension course, German 103, at
Winner, SD (1985).
K-12 School-Based Experiences
Classroom Instructor of German and Spanish (August 1995-May 2011)
George S. Mickelson Middle School, Brookings, SD
Developed and wrote curriculum for semester-long foreign language
courses (Spanish and German) for eighth graders.
Incorporated reading strategies, Twenty-First Century skills, and
backward design in my daily lesson plans.
Instructed and evaluated up to 120 students per semester.
Served as student council advisor and After-School Camp coordinator and
supervisor.
Classroom Instructor of English and German (August 1990-May 1995)
Colman-Egan High School, Colman, SD
Instructed Freshman, Junior, and Senior English classes.
Coached oral interpretation and directed the all-school plays.
Served as freshman class advisor and Colman-Egan Education Association
president.

Instructed approximately 50 Freshman Composition students per
semester (various styles of writing, including the research paper).
Taught one interim class of Junior Composition.
Classroom Instructor of German, Speech, and English (August 1975-May
1988)

Taught German I-III, Speech I-II and a variety of English classes.
Advised the All State award-winning yearbook for six years.
Served as freshman class advisor, assistant oral interpretation coach, and
co-technical director for one-act plays.
Designed and taught an exploratory German class for fourth graders
(1987).
Attended the Europäische Akademie in Northern Germany for a two-week
seminar as a guest of the West German government.
Community-Focused Experiences
Developed and taught an exploratory class in Spanish and German for
grades 5-7 under the auspices of the Brookings PTA.
Developed and taught an adult Basic German class for the East Central
Multi-District (1999-2008).
Served as a consultant to set up the models for seventh and eighth grade
foreign language instruction at Watertown Middle School (1997).
Was a member of the Twenty-First Century Cohort (2009-2011).
