To reduce water use and energy billsA devastating four-year drought was ravaging the California region which ledto restricted water use imposed by the state. This meant a water-efficient laundry solution was needed, fast.

In addition, the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Sebastopol, was experiencing expensive energy bills. Official figures estimate that 75% of energy used for each washcomes from heating the water.

CHALLENGE

A system which uses less water, energy, and detergent thanthe competition Xeros installed its near-waterless washing system which uses innovativepolymer beads and uses up to 80% less water than conventional machines.

REPLACES WATER WITH BEADS

Instead of using bathfuls of water for each laundry load, a Xeros machine uses millions of small polymer beads, reducing water use by up to 80% per load.

The beads are added to the drum to provide mechanical action and to attract and absorb stains, leading to a superior clean. To minimize environmental impact, the beads are reusable, lasting for hundreds of washes.

REDUCES ENERGY USE

A substantial cost of operating an in-house laundry is the energy used to heat the water. The advantage of the Xeros machine over traditional machinesis twofold:

• It uses less water, so there is less liquid to heat

• It gets fabrics clean at lower temperatures,reducing the need to heat the water.

USES LESS DETERGENT

The Xeros system uses a proprietary detergent formula that takes full advantage of the unique cleaning properties of the Xeros polymer beads. With this unique combination of beads and detergent, a Xeros machine washes fabrics with up to half the chemicals, which results in savings and less effluent from any given wash cycle.
