Street Services to little avail. Finally, a

recent visit by the general manager of

the LA Department of Street Services to

the Pacific Palisades Community

Council made the difference. Within

two weeks of the council visit, the

guardrail was repaired and 10 foot high

anis weeds were removed.

It did take a village, and now one

man who takes pride in his work has

offered to keep the area free of weeds

and debris.

Gardener and tree surgeon, Pedro

Viramontes who maintains many home

in the area, has volunteered to maintain

the curb as a community service.

This serves as one more examples of

the community in which we live,

concerned neighbors, the Community

Council and caring souls.

When an entire neighborhood

watches out for each other and LAPD

provides the welcome support, we have a

most effective security system generally

referred to as Community Policing.

A concerned neighbor on Bienveneda

send a cautionary note to MKPOA,

describing a dangerously speeding

Mustang along with its license plate. He

asked that a warning be issued to MK

residents to be on the lookout. The next

day three other residents responded to the

community service e-mail with a

description of the driver and other

speeding events within Marquez Knolls

and on Sunset Boulevard by the same car.

WLA Senior Lead Officer Michael

Moore monitored the communication and

responded:

I spoke to the father of the speeding mustang driver and left a written note explaining the problem for the driver. He is the manager for a restaurant in the Palisades and occasionally makes food deliveries (it's a family business). I will try to reach him at work to verify that his father gave him my note and to further emphasize the problems regarding speeding.

This is cooperative community

policing by our local residents and LAPD

at its best. Our appreciation goes to

Officer Michael Moore and to those who

took time to report the danger.

Greg Alper and his students delight the

crowd at the Annual Block Party

LAPD Capt. Evangelyn Nathan greets Whirlie

the Clown and her faithful assistant at the

Annual Block Party in the Marquez Business

District. The LA Fire Department and

Councilmember Bill Rosendahl’s Regional Rep,

Norman Kulla greeted the neighborhood.

The Power of communication was never

so evident in Marquez Knolls one fall

evening.

An elderly woman distraught and

frightened went door-to-door with an empty

bird cage, her beloved companion—a grey

cockatiel was missing.

In a house she had not visited, neighbor

Shirley Hill found a skittish little bird, wings

clipped and obviously someone’s pet.

Fearing the worst, she immediately sent

an e-mail to MKPOA asking that

the announcement be

distributed to the

organization’s e-mail

list.

As the notice arrived

in approximately 400 in-

boxes, Silgia Grassl, read

in disbelief, for she had

spoken with the pet’s

owner earlier in the day.

Within a few hours the

two were reunited.
