MARNEBEK WEEKLY UPDATE

RESPECT | RESPONSIBILTY | RESILIENCE | SAFETY

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to edition 9 of our Weekly Update for the last week of remote learning. I hope you are all well and looking forward to the return to on site schooling. Here’s a brief overview of our new arrangements:

Transition back to on-site schooling Following advice from the Victorian Chief Health Officer and as announced by the Victo-rian Government, Victorian government schools will begin a transition back to on-site schooling for students on Tuesday, 26 May. To support all school staff to prepare for the transition, Monday 25 May will be a student-free day. This is important to enable the planning necessary to ensure the successful transition back to school can be completed. Classes will not be held on this day (including supervision of the children of essential workers). School arrival and departure beginning on Tuesday 26th May As the main risk of introducing coronavirus (COVID-19) to the school environment is from adults, close proxim-ity between adult members of the school community should be avoided, particularly during school drop-off and pick-up. This will be managed by the following strategies: No parent and student gathering at the school gates or car park areas. Please ensure you follow the rec-

ommended 1.5 m social distancing measures.

Parents/carers cannot enter school grounds, unless it is absolutely essential to do so and parents are to contact the school by phone or email when this is needed.

Staff will actively manage routines and protocols at the school gates at pick up and drop off students.

You have received detailed instructions for your child’s individual schedule of which gate they are to enter/exit. Please follow these instructions.

PLEASE REMEMBER: It is important if your child is unwell not to attend school. If your child becomes unwell at school, the school nurse will contact you & and you will be required to pick up your child.

Thank you for your co-operation. We look forward to welcoming back our students next week.

Kind regards,

Jennifer Hamilton

Principal

MIDDLE SCHOOL REPORT

By Chris Murray

Middle School Assistant Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been another fantastic week of remote learning for Middle School, with the highlight being Wellbeing Wednesday. It was

great to join in all the fun with families, I particularly enjoyed yoga with Rosie and bounced into work today feeling energised

and ready to go.

The staff have been busily planning the return to classrooms next Tuesday and look forward to seeing the students. The Middle

School timetable will stay the same with all specialist programs running as usual, however, classes that involve students combin-

ing across groups have been postponed such as literacy rotations and numeracy rotations to assist in minimising student con-

tact.

A highlight of the week for many students is our weekly assembly, however, these will have also been postponed until further

notice. I'm sure everyone will be happy to know that the popular remote learning Marnebek assembly will continue to run and

will be published weekly.

Finally, it has been a challenging time and I'm sure there are many students anxious about returning to school. All staff are work-

ing very hard to make the transition as smooth as possible. If you have any questions please contact your classroom teacher.

Once again thank you for working alongside us and look forward to seeing all students next Tuesday.

TEACHING & LEARNING REMOTELY

With the final week of remote learning closing in on us, we would like to share with you a some reflec-tions on teaching in a remote environment by Chloe Jones (501 Classroom Teacher).

I have been working remotely and onsite a couple days a week.

My own experience of this has been positive.

Going onsite has given me the opportunity to not only set the learning tasks but see how the stu-dents access them.

Observing and assisting the students in engaging with seesaw has made me reflect on my own practice- how can, I make the tasks more accessible, engaging for the students.

The students in the classroom require support.

I’ve learnt a lot over the past couple of weeks. For me, it’s been quite a positive disruption. A lot of good and growth will come from this not only for myself but for the school.

I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with others.

Build relationships with other students (VCAL/Middle students).

It’s been a great time to be able to collaborate with other members of staff that I don’t usually work with. It’s been a time where I have been able to ask others for advice, strategies and observes others’ interactions with students.

The parents and carers of our students have done an incredible job. I’ve observed so much love, care and patience.

Lysan Cheeramkuzhiyiljoseph—

101 Classroom Teacher

Hi everyone my name is Lysan Joseph. Currently I teach in

the Middle school. This is the latest photo of me in isolation.

I joined Marnebek school towards the end of 2009 as a CRT.

Then in 2010, I became a full time staff member. Most of

my time at Marnebek, has been engaged in teaching the

Middle school students. When the Seniors were relocated

to Corrigans Road Campus, I joined the team for a while. I

then came back to New Holland Drive Campus and I am cur-

rently teaching in the Middle school.

What I love about the school is the comradery that I can

enjoy with my fellow staff. Teaching has been engaging and

rewarding for me. Teaching has allowed me to get through

each day knowing that I make a difference in the lives of my

students with my passion, patience, acceptance, flexibility,

creativity, organization and a sense of humour.

Over the years, Marnebek has blossomed into a valued cen-

tre for students with special needs, offering engaging and

enriching programs to meet the ever changing demands of

students who enter the portals of Marnebek. I am proud to

be part of this institution.

Covid-19 has been a blessing in disguise as it provided me

with new learning opportunities to upskill and become more

techno-savvy to meet the demands of the changing times.

Personally, I also enjoy being at home with my two children.

I have a daughter and a son. One is in year 9 and the other is

in year 7. My wife is an essential support worker, so it fell on

me to be home during these unprecedented times.

I use my spare time to play table-tennis with my son and

exercise with him. I like all kinds of sports and enjoy playing

them more than watching, except AFL, which I am still learn-

ing to figure out!

Lock down, gave me time to practice yoga and martial arts

drills. I enjoy watching movies and listening to music.

Another thing, I love to do is to be active in my garden. I

love being outdoors exploring the beauty of nature.

My favourite food is cassava with fish curry!
