THE SURFACES COMPANYCOMPAC is a pioneering Europeancompany in the manufacture andmarketing of technological marble andquartz surfaces made using the engineeredstone system.
Founded in 1974 in a small town in Valenciaprovince, Spain, this courageous familycompany has been growing continuouslysince then to become a prestigiousinternational corporation with productioncentres today in Spain and Portugal, anda presence on five continents thanks toproprietary warehouses and a network ofover 250 associated dealers or distributors.
This company has a deep-rooted cultureof technological innovation addressed tosatisfying both the practical needs of thebuilding trade and the achievement ofattractive, personalised and healthfulspaces in the home.
This commitment to ensuring the dailywell-being of users and expressingcreativity marks the guidelines for ongoingresearch and investigation at COMPAC,summing up to one word for the future:SUSTAINABILITY.
COMPAC’s ongoing concern since itsfoundation has always been to usematerials derived from technologicalinnovation to make quality productsthat enhances the characteristicsand performance of the originalmaterial without losing any of theirnatural values.

Special COMPAC forventilated facades
2
COMPAC marble is a reconstitutednatural stone, from Spain, composedof highly pure minerals, polymer binder,
and unique additives mixture.
In outdoor applications, both polymerbinder and additives are specially
incorporated into the natural stone, tofully endow it to resist weather and
environmental conditions (such as theUV radiation, frost, heat, humidity, etc.).
In order to achieve this protectionagainst all kind of climate agents,
COMPAC is currently using patentedtechnology.
As a result, production process allowsCOMPAC to supply stones with
extraordinary mechanical properties,and insignificant degree of porosity;
therefore, COMPAC MARBLES are verysuitable in many applications, indoors
as well as outdoors.
In the past 35 years COMPAC has beenproviding building solutions (comprisingdesign, architecture and construction)
to numerous partners worldwide.
COMPAC Technological Marblewas conceived from a forward-looking understanding of thelimitations of natural stone foruse in modern construction dueto its lack of homogeneity and itsshortage as a raw material.
Intensive quarrying operations and thelarge amounts of unused waste materialsfrom extraction activities inspired us tosearch for an advanced product capable ofexpressing today’s innovative aestheticswhile meeting all the practical needs ofmodern architecture and ensuringsustainability and complete respect for theenvironment.
Before receiving a surface finish, the slabsare subjected to a calibration process toensure that all sizes (width, length andthickness) are always within tolerances andranges allowed by current standards.
The final surface finish is achieved usingpolishers equipped with abrasive heads thatuse wet friction to provide the appropriatetexture for each surface.
The COMPAC Technological Marbleproduction plant in Gandía (Valencia-Spain)has a capacity of 2 million m2 per year.
By subjecting the mixture to avibrocompactation process we ensurea homogenous distribution of minerals,
and then a vacuuming processeliminates all air from the mixture, giving COMPAC Technological Marble
its most highly appreciated featurefor use in ventilated façades:
absence of pores andnegligible water or humidity
absorption.
These characteristics ensure that ourproducts only require maintenance which issimple and economic, while ensuring thattheir mechanical properties are superior tothose of natural stone (no fissuring or fragileareas).
This product is made in compact blocks fromwhich panels of different thickness areobtained, based on client needs.
The most frequent thicknesses for our slabsare 10mm, 12mm, 14mm (which is the normfor ventilated façades), 20mm and 30 mm.
Slabs are obtained by cutting blocks usingsawing machinery equipped with a series ofdiamond-tipped discs spaced to obtain thecorresponding slab thicknesses.

Our production process
permits multiple designs to
be obtained with a highly
aesthetic appeal, thanks to
which unique, customised
projects can be designed in
accordance with end user
specifications and tastes.
With a hardness rating similar to that of naturalstone, COMPAC Technological Marble has an impactand breakage resistance which is much greaterthanks to its superior flexibility. The flexure resistance rating of COMPAC Technological Marbleis approximately 30 MPa, which is why the critical breakageload for this material is extremely high even in the lowerthicknesses. Thanks to this property, materials with a thicknessof 14mm can be used in conventional façade formats (60x60or 120x60).
It is a lighter product and is therefore easier totransport, handle, cut and set.
With a porosity of practically zero, water absorptionis minimal, thereby achieving a product with a highlevel of resistance to stains and climatic conditionssuch as rain and frost.
Unlike natural stone, however, COMPACTechnological Marble is homogenous, meaning itcan be applied on large-scale surfaces withoutnoticeable differences in colour or tone.Property consistency:The production process used to obtain COMPACTechnological Marble allows us to guarantee itsoutstanding properties at all times, from one batchto another.
Ultraviolet radiation resistance:Materials used as outdoor surface coverings mustpresent a high level of resistance to ultravioletradiation as well as to rainwater. Special COMPACTechnological Marble for ventilated façadesincorporates specific components to optimise itsperformance with respect to atmospheric agents, such as pigments that are highly resistant to UVradiation and a high-performance isophthalic resinagainst humidity and solar radiation. This is also a hygienic product and is easy to clean
and maintain, and like natural stone, COMPACTechnological Marble can be polished to highlightits original gloss and appeal.

Ventilated façades are a vertical
cladding system for buildings that
uses an outer cladding material
enclosing a ventilated air chamber
and a layer of continuous thermal
insulation against the inner
building wall.
Energy efficiency:Ventilated façades are ideal for reducingenergy costs in buildings. Thermal insulationis placed in a continuous layer to preventheat transfer from metal framework edgesand vertical supports.
Protection against atmosphericagents:The outer leaf receives the direct impact ofrain and sun, but it minimises these effectsby being separated from the inner leaf andbuffered by an air chamber.
Elimination of condensation andhumidity from the “chimneyeffect”:The air behind the outer leaf is heated andtherefore rises, taking with it the humiditydeposited on the thermal insulation.
Choice of aesthetic composition:In view of the great flexibility in choosingcladding modules, building façade design ismade easy.
Ideal for restoral work:With a simple assembly over an existing wall,a façade can be restored easily and quickly, improving aesthetic and technical conditions, with no need to disturb dwellers or users ofthe building.
Performancethoroughlytested.

ANCHORINGSYSTEMS
ANDINSTALLATION
6 ADHESIVE SYSTEMCladding pieces are joined to thesubstructure using an adhesive.Today’s major advances inadhesives technology now providea series of products that complywith all the requirements for usein ventilated façade systems. Thesesystems are usually combined withsome kind of mechanical anchoringsystem.
Ventilated Façade with ContinuousAnchoring and Back Adhesive.
Ventilated façades are a vertical cladding
system for buildings that uses an outer
cladding material enclosing a ventilated
air chamber and a layer of continuous
thermal insulation against the inner
building wall.
For over 20 years COMPAC Technological
Marble has been used as cladding
material for ventilated façades in many
countries, and we now have over 1.5
million squares metres of this material
successfully installed.
Some international companies
specialising in ventilated façade systems,
like VETISOL France, have even
developed systems especially designed
for use with COMPAC Technological
Marble.
CLAMPSThis system has been frequentlyused to make ventilated façadesclad with ceramic tiles. The clampsmay be either hidden or visible. There are various qualities andcharacteristics of clampingsystems on the market, but fromthe standpoint of safety, theseanchoring systems have the lowestresistance to wind pressure.
Ventilated Façade with Anchoring Pointson Hidden Lip.
Ventilated Façade with ContinuousAnchoring on Back Groove.
HIDDEN BACK-GROOVEDSYSTEMThis system was conceived as afurther development to edgegrooved systems and present thesame advantages.
In this variant, however, thehorizontal anchors are joined tothe cladding at the factory itself. The cladding pieces fitted withthese anchoring systems are joinedto the vertical or horizontalstructural profiles on site.
HIDDEN EDGE-GROOVEDSYSTEMIn this system, the horizontal edgesof the slabs are grooved along theirentire length. The profiles have alip which fits into the groove, asshown on the close-up below. Thissystem of installing a ventilatedfaçade presents a series ofadvantages that should behighlighted:
• They are safest on the market,as the entire length of the panelrests on the anchoring device.
• They can be used with a widevariety of formats and can beadjusted to any height. They takediverse lip sizes and differentseparation distances from the wall.
A wide variety of façade designscan be made by combiningdifferent size pieces.
Ventilated Façade with ContinuousAnchoring on Edge Groove.
PIVOT FASTENINGSYSTEMThis is a classic fastening systemused to anchor natural stone to aventilated façade. It is not practicalfor thinner pieces as the diameterof the pivot itself is usually around5mm.
This system is now becomingobsolete compared to newersolutions offering more safety andversatility, such as grooved edgeor back profiles.
Ventilated Façade with Pivot FasteningSystem
Experience in ventilated façades
COMPAC has ample experience in the application of Technological Marble productsoutdoors, as in ventilated façades.
COMPAC Technological Marble has been successfully installed in ventilated façadesystems with excellent results in a vast array of projects around the world, bothin countries with high temperatures such as the Arab Emirates, Asia, Latin Americaand southern Europe, and in colder countries like Poland and France.
VETISOL is a French company specialising in the design and installation of ventilatedfaçades, applying its own anchoring system for use with COMPAC TechnologicalMarble products from the early 90s.
VETISOL has been awarded a French “Avis Technique” technical certificate fortheir façade system using COMPAC Technological Marble products.
Over one million square metres of outdoor cladding have been installed aroundthe world since the 1990s.
