Slide 1 Slide notes: Marketline is a database used to conduct International Industry research.
Slide 2 Slide notes: Marketline, formerly known as Datamonitor 360, provides industry, company and country information, in detailed reports for nearly 50,000 public and private companies, for over 200 countries and major industry sectors. The unique industry analysis framework is based on Porter’s Five Forces, and also includes expert future forecast analysis. Country reports contain macro-economic, socio-economic and demographic data points using standardized data to allow for easy country comparison. News, Comment and Analysis feeds allow users to stay up to date on current business issues.

to "Databases." Click this link.

navigate you to the "Databases"
page, by default the databases are
organized "By Subject." From the
menu, select "Business."
Slide 6 Slide notes: You will automatically navigate to a page containing main business databases as well as other useful databases, in alphabetical order, that could assist you in conducting your research

Slide 7 Slide notes: Select the database that appeals to the research you are conducting. In this instance, we will select the "Marketline" database.
Slide 8 Slide notes: When accessing Marketline through the Laurier Library business subject page, you will automatically navigate to the Marketline homepage. As you can see the homepage provides the option to search by “Keyword,” or browse by “Industries.”
Slide 9 Slide notes: If you would like to proceed to browse by “Industries,” when hovering over the “Industries” option you will be able to see a popup window of the top industry sectors from which you could select an industry of your choice.
Slide 10 Slide notes: However, if you would like to proceed to search by “Keyword,” you could simply type the chosen industry into the search box.

Slide 11 Slide notes: Let’s go through an example. In this instance, the industry that we would like to conduct a search for is “sports equipment.” Click “Search.”
Slide 12 Slide notes: As you can see, you have been navigated to a page containing your search results. The “Search criteria” is visible at the top of the page.
Slide 13 Slide notes: The search for “sports equipment,” can be refined further using the panel on the right, by further narrowing down “Industry,” “Geography,” and “Publication Date.”

Slide 14 Slide notes: In this instance, I would like to narrow the results to focus on reports from the “Past 2 Years,” from “Europe.”
Slide 15 Slide notes: As you can see, the search criteria at the top of the page has changed to reflect the criteria you have added to refine your results. If, for instance, you would like to change your search again, you can do so under “Refine your Search.” In this instance, we will not change the selected criteria.
Slide 16 Slide notes: Slide notes: As you can see, search results can be viewed in “Group view,” or “List View.” In “Group View,” you will be able to see your search results grouped in various sub sections that are sorted by “Relevance.” “Industries,” that shows top-line data and analysis covering the sports equipment market for various countries in Europe. “Companies,” that displays facts and figures for an extensive list of companies that exist all over Europe that deal in sports equipment. “Case Studies.” “Company News,” which contains up to date news about manufacturers and/or distributors of sports equipment within Europe. “Financial Deals,” that displays news on all the various mergers and acquisitions that are taking place or have taken place in the industry; and, “Countries” which contain reports that contain a PEST and/or

Slide 17 Slide notes: If, however, you would like to further sort the search results visible within each group, by “Publication date” or, by “Title.” You can do so by first clicking “List View,” and using the drop down menu.

Slide 19 Slide notes: In this instance, I would like to view search results specifically by “Industries,” in “List View.” As you can see here, the results are currently organized by “Relevance.” In our case, this is the preferred organizational method.

Slide 20 Slide notes: Let’s look at “France - Sports Equipment.”
Slide 21 Slide notes: As you can see, by clicking on the title of the report, you navigate to another page which displays an “Executive Summary,” and a panel to the right, of the “Table of Contents.” At this point, you have the option to “Download the full Report” in PDF format.
Slide 22 Slide notes: Or, you could download the different sections of the report in a word document or pdf file.
