STEP 1 CHOOSE A PROFITABLE NICHE

That was relatively easy for me as I want to position myself as an expert in Marketing. I teach a course on Marketing Fundamentals and I wanted to go deeper into the topic. In addition, I'm a huge fan of Psychology and for the most part, marketing is about Psychology.

Plus, I work as a marketing manager and I have a bachelor’s degree in marketing (which didn’t help a lot).

This motivated me to create my course on Marketing Psychology, however with a focus on Digital Marketing. First Step – Ready!

STEP 2 ORGANIZE AND CREATE YOUR COURSE

For my lectures I always use scripts and I screen-record a PowerPoint presentation. I didn’t film myself and usually, I don’t do it.

I used Google and I got great ideas from few blog posts. In the Google’s search box I typed “marketing psychology”; “psychological studies for marketers”; “customer psychology” and more. I gathered the information that would be of help and I made another research. I saved some links in a text document, this helped me be organized.

I made an outline for my course on a piece of paper and then I moved it in a digital format. Here is how it looks:

I used Audacity to record and edit the audio files. I love the noise-removal option. For a screen-recording software, I used Camtasia (remember you have 30 days free trial). For my presentations I used PowerPoint. I also used PDF for my “take action” files.

My course ended up around one hour long. Second Step – Ready!

STEP 3 OPTIMIZE YOUR COURSE TO BECOME A BEST-SELLER

I spent a lot of time on writing my title. I knew that I wanted to include “Marketing Psychology” as a keyword, so I started with that.

I’ve exhausted many ideas but what best represents my course and it is not misleading in some way was that: Marketing Psychology – Influence Customers To Take Action Now, by saying “take action” I meant to opt-in or purchase something, but I thought about it even more and I came to a conclusion that was not specific enough, therefore I changed it to Marketing Psychology –How To Influence Customers To Buy Now, as I found it to be more specific, plus I added “How To”.

Sub-title for Udemy: "The Economist" Magazine Used One Of The Simple Psych. Methods Below And Won $3432 Instantly -I Give You Five Of These!” – As you can see I used numbers, a fact, and the power word "instantly" – you cannot beat that.

I wrote my description – it was around 824 words, but once I got some reviews I added them to the description (1000+ words total) because this is a great form of social proof.

STEP 4 LAUNCH YOUR COURSE ON SKILLSHARE AND UDEMY

Skillshare: I split the course into two smaller courses with part 1 and part 2. I pushed really hard to get my first 25 students and more, so I got in the ranking list quickly. I gave free coupons to my closest friends (5). And my Skillshare followers got a notification. So, my first day I managed to add 17 students and I ended my first week with 52 students with only 5 or 6 of them free.

Udemy: I published my course for free and I hold it free approximately one week. This helped me to gather around 800 organic free students. I asked my students to leave me a review and this is how I got 20+ reviews.

After the “free” period I then priced my course at $39 and approximately 2 weeks later I changed the price to $99. Now, my course is priced at $197.

I did a promotional announcement to my current students and I got around 10 sales (promotional price) and a few sales came from organic traffic.

It's just one-hour video course. I needed an overall of two weeks to create it, but if I have to calculate how much time I put, it’s probably 10 to 15 hours straight.

My point is, it all depends on your time but you can easily create two courses like this one per month and after a year you will be killing it! It’s all about the right strategy.
