World Expo Overview

As an exhibition at the highest level in the world, the World Expo is a large-scale international exhibition sponsored by the government of one country, with participation by a number of countries and international organizations. Its exhibitors are sovereign states and international organizations. Compared with other exhibitions, the World Expo is of higher standard, longer duration, larger scale, and with more participating countries. It promotes new products and introduces new technologies to strengthen economic and technological development. It puts forward and advocates new ideas and new thinking to promote the scientifi c development of humankind and a new understanding of the world. It enhances exchange and cooperation to realize harmonious development and common prosperity for all countries. The World Expo is a great event for economic, technological, social and cultural exchange and cooperation among all the countries of the world, and it serves as a bridge of communication among all peoples.

The World Expo dates far back from the Great Exhibition of London held in the year 1851 up to today, a history of 160 years. It has played a positive and irreplaceable role in the development of human civilization and social progress. New technologies, inventions, creations and products marking the progress and development of humankind and society are shown in public through the platform of the Expo. New inventions and achievements such as the steam engine, locomotive, elevator, electric lighting, phonograph, wireless telephone, television and robot are fi rst introduced to the world at Expos of different times. These are closely tied to the Industrial Revolution, automobile revolution, communications and information revolution, and the environmental revolution of those times, and they record every advance of human civilization. Many landmarks of the World Expo have become important heritages. For example, the world famous Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Atomium in Brussels, built for previous Expos, are milestones in the history of architecture and represent the glorious history of human civilization.

世界博览会的历史源远流长,从1851年伦敦的“万国工业博览会”至

今,已有160年的历史。世博会对人类的文明发展和社会进步起到了积极而

不可替代的作用。标志着人类社会进步和发展的新技术、新发明、新创造、

Expo 2012 Yeosu Overview

The Word Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea, referred to as the Expo 2012 Yeosu, will be held in the coastal city of Yeosu, the Republic of Korea from May 12 to August 12, 2012 over a period of 93 days.

(Expo 2012 Yeosu),将于2012年5月12日至8月12日在韩国海滨城市

丽水市举行,为期93天。

The Expo 2012 Yeosu under the theme "The Living Ocean and Coast: Diversity of Resources and Sustainable Activities" focuses on the importance of the ocean and coast, and conveys the hope of mankind for harmonious development with the earth, life and the ecosystem. This is further divided into three sub-themes: "Development and Preservation of the Ocean and Coast", "Creative Maritime Activities" and "New Resources Technologies."

本次世博会的主题为“生机勃勃的海洋及海岸—资源多样性与可持

续发展”,着眼于海洋和海岸的重要性,传达了人类希望与地球、生

命、生态系统和谐发展的愿望。三个副主题分别为:“海岸开发与保

This Expo will be a memorable experience, It advocates sustainability in marine culture, encourages the fusion and transmission of knowledge, exchange of experiences and participation by the general public, as well as discussion and dialogue between relevant institutions. The Expo promotes awareness of the challenges and opportunities facing marine resources, and shows successful examples and major innovations around the world.Covering an area of about 25 hectares, the Expo venue has a variety of pavilions including the Theme Pavilions, Korean Pavilion, national pavilions of participating countries, and pavilions for the local governments, international organizations, and corporations. With over 100 countries and a number of international organizations as offi cial participants, the Expo is expected to receive 10 million visitors, 7% of which will be from abroad.

本次世博会倡导与可持续性理念相关的海洋文化;鼓励知识的融汇与传

递、经验的交流以及普通大众的参与、相关机构之间的讨论和对话;促进大

众对海洋资源所面临的挑战与机遇的认识;展示来自世界各地的成功范例和

经国务院批准,中国贸促会将代表国家组织中国馆参加2012年韩国丽

水世博会。韩国丽水世博会中国馆位于太平洋展区,展馆面积约1200平方

米。中国馆初步确定“人海相依”的展示主题,将以可持续发展为主线,

从海洋和海岸开发与保护、海洋科技、海洋文化三个角度,介绍我国的海

洋事业发展成就和发展目标,传达中国人民关爱海洋,构建人与海洋和谐

Overview of the China Pavilion at Expo 2012 Yeosu

CCPIT has been approved by the State Council (the Chinese Cabinet) to organize the China Pavilion to participate in Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea on behalf of China. The China Pavilion for Expo 2012 Yeosu is located in the Pacifi c exhibition area, and covers an exhibition area of about 1,200 square meters. Under the preliminary theme "Humankind and Sea in Harmony", the China Pavilion highlights sustainable development and will introduce China's achievements and development objectives in the marine industry from the perspectives of marine and coastal development and protection, and marine technology and marine culture. It will communicate the Chinese people’s love of the ocean, and build a concept of marine industry development inextricably tied to a harmonious relationship between man and sea.

Chinese Government Highlights World Expo

In 1999, China successfully hosted the International Horticultural Exposition in Yunnan Province. It lasted 6 months with 95 participating nations and international organizations as well as over 9.3 million visitors from home and abroad. The effi cient and effective organization gained world-wide accolade. In the same year, China applied for the World Expo 2010 Shanghai. And the next three years followed fi lled with concerted, arduous effort under the leadership of the central government, relevant departments, CCPIT and the municipality of Shanghai. In December 2002, China finally won the right to host World Expo 2010 at the 132nd General Assembly of the Bureau of International Expositions (BIE). Government leaders emphasized the role of the World Expo in stimulating the national economy, and extolled the Beijing 2008 Olympics and the World Expo 2010 Shanghai as the dual driving forces for the Chinese economy in the years to come. The World Expo 2010 Shanghai was the fi rst comprehensive world exposition held in China, and it attracted nationwide and worldwide attention. Under the theme "Better City, Better Life", the Shanghai Expo created and interpreted a brilliant and magnificent display of the world civilization by upholding and promoting the World Expo ideals of understanding, communication, togetherness and cooperation. With 246 countries and international organizations participating, and visitors reaching 73,080,000 in number, the Shanghai Expo, successful, splendid and unforgettable, created new records, wrote a glorious chapter and a monumental victory in the history of World Expositions.

四、中国政府高度关注

1999年我国成功在云南举办了世界园艺博览会,该博览会历时6个月,共

有95个国家和国际组织参加展出,接待中外游客930多万,较高的组织水平受

到各方的一致称赞。同年,我国提出申办2010年上海世博会,在中央政府的统

一领导下,有关部委、中国贸促会及上海市积极开展工作,经过历时三年的艰

苦努力,于2002年12月举行的国展局第132次全体大会上获胜,取得2010年世

博会举办权。中央领导同志十分重视举办世界博览会对国民经济的积极作用,

曾形象地将2008年北京奥运会和2010年上海世博会比做推动中国经济未来几

年发展的双引擎。2010年上海世界博览会,是我国首次举办的综合性世界博览

会,举国关注,举世瞩目。上海世博会围绕“城市,让生活更美好”的主题,

秉承和弘扬理解、沟通、欢聚、合作的世博理念,创造和演绎了一场精彩纷

呈、美轮美奂的世界文明大展示,246个国家和国际组织参展,参观人数达到

7308万,创造了多项世博会的新纪录,谱写了世界博览史的辉煌篇章,以一届

成功、精彩、难忘的世博会胜利载入世博会史册。

Authorized and commissioned by the State Council, CCPIT acts as China's authority in charge of participation in the Bureau of International Expositions (BIE) and World Expo affairs. It has been responsible for the organization, coordination, supervision and management of China’s participation in the BIE and the World Expo. Since 1982, CCPIT has organized the China Pavilion for 13 World Expos on behalf of the state. Through these exhibitions, we have advertised China’s great achievements in economic and social development since the reform and opening policy. We show the unique charm of five thousand years of Chinese civilization to the world, strengthen understanding and friendly exchange with the peoples of the world, and build a positive image of the country.

贸促会受国务院授权和委托,作为中国参加国际展览局和世博会事

务的主管单位,一直负责我国参加国际展览局和世博会工作的组织、协

Diversifi ed Promotion Platform

While advocating wide media participation, CCPIT is scheduled to hold a series of cultural and economic events before and during the World Expo as part of its creation of a layered, multi-dimensional promotional campaign for the World Expo.

In this period of preparation, CCPIT began selection of the movie script for the China Pavilion in April of this year and will officially announce the design of the China Pavilion in June. CCPIT will strengthen the publicity of major events in preparation for the China Pavilion by taking into consideration the needs of China’s leading provinces, cities and enterprises and by making the most of internet and media infl uence. It will also improve media coverage and organize related promotional activities to attract wide-spread public participation and media attention, raise awareness for the World Expo 2012 Yeosu, and provide a platform of huge social and economic benefi ts for the World Expo.

CCPIT intends to provide the following promotional platforms during Expo 2012 Yeosu

(1) National Day Activities:Each official participating nation will hold National Day activities in the World Expo. The China Pavilion’s National Day is temporarily set for June 28, 2012, when the leaders of the Central Government will lead a high-profi le delegation to present and preside over the event.

(2) Investment Promotion Activities:We will assist a few Chinese cities in launching investment promotion activities in commercial centers including Seoul, Busan and Gwangju in the Republic of Korea. The leading trade and investment promotion organizations in The Republic of Korea will spare no effort to support of the above-mentioned activities.

(3) Special Publications:The China Pavilion will publish Guide to Visit China Pavilion and theme publications.

(4) China Pavilion Offi cial Website:The website dedicated to the China Pavilion of Expo 2012 Yeosu launched by CCPIT will serve as a gateway to the World Expo and a promotion platform for enterprises actively supporting the world expo. With powerful multimedia features, the user-friendly website will help domestic audience better understand the Concept of World Expo.

7. Two representatives of the “Partner” will be invited to attend the National Day Ceremony of the China Pavilion. CCPIT will pay for their business-class round-trip air tickets from Beijing to Yeosu as well as the expense of accommodation for 3 nights in Yeosu,

8. Representatives of the “Partner” will have the privilege of a guided tour of Expo 2012 Yeosu. They will be allowed to use the VIP reception room of the China Pavilion to meet clients for unlimited times and enjoy free interpretation service.

9. Corporate personnel and customers may access the China Pavilion through the VIP entrance (limited to 500 people in total).

10. As partner, the sponsor will be invited to participate in relevant preparation activities of the China Pavilion.

11. A feature article on the sponsor in a publication by relevant media partners for the World Expo.

12. Reports on sponsor image and brand in a designated column on the China Pavilion website: homepage ads and links to the sponsor’s website on the China Pavilion website. Advertisement content and design will be provided by the sponsor.
