Our questionnaire was compiled in order to understand our core target audience better

We had this in mind when we created it. The final questionnaire is available on my blog.

In our questionnaire we did a survey in our school comprising of students our own age and teachers in order to broaden the range of results

Chart to Show Genre popularity spread among younger audiences

From this chart we can that the most popular genre is Comedy with the genre of our film, ‘Thriller’ coming 3rd. This was a revelation as our type of film we not as popular as in our target audience group as we thought would be.

Chart to genre popularity spread among older audiences

W h e n c o m p a r e d w i t h t h e previous chart, we can see a different spread of genre taste. Maturity has meant that s e r i o u s g e n r e ’ s s u c h a s ‘romantic’ and ‘drama’ are more popular. This is stereotypical of the older generation.

Chart to show younger audience priorities

From this chart we can see that actors and story are more important to a young audience. This can be expected because a younger audience is less appreciative of the technical aspects such as cinematography, soundtrack and editing and are instead influenced by the more obvious elements of films; explosions, visual effects, nudity, high profile actors etc.

SUrprisingly, this chart shows us that the most important factor in a f i lm is the cast . This was contradictory to what we thought w e w o u l d s e e i n t h e o l d e r generation. We predicted that reviews, genre and narrative would b e m o r e p o p u l a r w i t h t h i s demographic.

We asked our participants how important non-diegetic music was to them on a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being the most important. We found the result a lot more surprising as it clearly shows that it is more important than we first thought. This means we are planning to include a lot more music in our final piece and spend a lot more time on producing an original score and adding non-diegetic music to our film.
