We have to be extremely strict and enforce best practice which the government has put in place to safe guard our safely and at present allow the market to operate. Demand certainly prevalent for all weight, grades and nationality as buyers looking to source cows for cheaper cuts and mince at present. Leading lights shone brightly to 219p for bulls, 208p for clean, 154p for sucklers and 136p for dairy! The overall market average returned at 118p. 126 Dairy Cows - Trade remaining extremely buoyant with demand throughout. Average slightly back on the week but more to do with quality of cattle forward rather than trade. Black and whites sold to 136p (£862.24) from The Furnival Family, Napley and further cows to 134p (£822.76), 132p (£918.72), 130p (£1,006.20), 129p (£869.46), 126p (£682.92), 125p (£937.50) etc. P. & D.E. Cattle a little bit easier to place today especially the second and third quality types. Top calls rang out to 248p for heifers, 236p for steers and 220p for bulls. 66 Bulls - More bulls urgently required to fulfil increase buyer demand. Great to see a few more sucklers about and these sold to 220p (£1,342.00) for a Limousin from Mr Roger Thomas & Family, Church Eaton and further bull to 213p (£1,278.00). 40 DAIRY CATTLE Auctioneers : Gwilym Richards (07768 020393) & Jason Brown (07774 816384) First of all, a very big thank you to all the vendors and purchasers embracing the new Covid-19 restrictions to enable the dairy auction to resume after the six week break. Secondly, the trade was much better than anticipated with no shortage of buyers in attendance enabling all cattle to be sold. In actual fact, some buyers went home empty handed. It was virtually all heifers with only one cow forward. The heifers sold to £1,900 from A.A. Winstanley & Partners, Audlem with others from the same home selling at £1,810 and £1,780. Mr Richard Lewis, Carmarthen sold at £1,820 and £1,700. Mr Rhys Jones, Kidwelly received £1,720 and Mr Ifan Thomas, Swansea sold to £1,680. More milking cattle are required for next week. Calves sold particularly well with Montbeliarde crosses to £380, and British Friesians to £160.

308 STORE CATTLE Auctioneer : Ben Baggott (07791 791356) Plenty of stores about again this week and trade good for the right goods. Some small for age cattle a little harder to move today but outlying cattle selling at a real premium. Almost fifty Friesian steers today all selling well with the better sorts trading at 130p to 150p topping at 153p from D.E. & S.E. Furnival Ltd, Napley. Top end types at £590 to £690 topping at £740 from Mrs V. Kilmister, Tiffield. Younger types at £400 to £500 looking well sold. Yarding cattle reflecting the end product trade again but sharper on the week. Best at £900 plus topping at £1,065 for Charolais Heifer from E.G. Stokes & Partners, Blymhill. Plenty of hard yarding cattle today at 400kgs to 450kgs selling at that £750 to £850. Better cattle at 170p to 180p/kg and the next stage down at 150p to 160p/kg.

Younger cattle with style a joy to sell especially suckler bred types at well over 200p/kg topping at 242p for Charolais steers from J.C. Howells & Partners, Church Hill. Best at £700 to £800, more dairy bred sorts at £600 to £700 with plainer native heifers at £400 to £500 in the main. Trade was electric from the off and held right the way through to the finish, which is a credit to our vendors for the quality calves on offer. The Friesian bulls were on fire with anything shapely looking very dear! Best selling at £100 to £140 topping at £155 for D.L.G. Morris & Partners, Handley. Medium rearers at £60 to £90. Processing bulls, heavier sorts £35 to £50, mediums £20 to £30. Native bulls continue in high demand, but we were short on quality Angus today in comparison to the Herefords! Top price went to a superb Angus from R.J. & C.E. Thomas, Bettisfield at £272. Hereford’s sold to £222 for Lees Dairy Farms, Adderley. Best bulls £180 to £220. Mediums at £130 to £160 and smalls from £100. The Continental bulls continue on their rich vein of form with 86 Blue bulls topping at £348 for M.E. & K. Emmott, Market Drayton. There were 23 bulls over £300 in total with the pick of the rest being Limousins to £320 for P.E. Bailey & Sons, Llanrhaeadr and Simmentals to £308 for Done & Hampson, Worthenbury. Best bulls £280 to £320, mediums at £220 to £260 and £170 to £220. A fast trade for native heifers, Herefords taking the lead today with the mediums off the scale!
