Association Information
Configuration Information
MARKET CERTIFICATION – COMMON MISTAKES
Do Not Wait
Start when Silicon Labs has accepted your certification request and has issued a Certification Case ID.
Silicon Labs will manage making sure that Technical
Certification and Market Certification are both complete
before a Certification Number is issued.
Part of Market Certification includes a
publication date field – you may time the
publication of the product to the productcatalog with your product release.
MARKET CERTIFICATION – COMMON MISTAKES
Your model is probably not called “New Product”
Please remember to fill in your model name and
number.
MARKET CERTIFICATION – COMMON MISTAKES
Original Manufacturer Company is the one who engineered the product, Brand Name is the name of the brand visible on the product that it will be sold under. (Only Brand is visible to public)

MARKET CERTIFICATION – COMMON MISTAKES
Owner’s Manual - the consumer can download it if
they need it and no longer have the original.
We require:
All network operations (inclusion, exclusion, reset, etc.)
All Association Information
Purpose of each association group.
How many nodes can the association group hold?
What information (signal) is sent by the device to the nodes in
that group?
All Configuration parameters
information.
MARKET CERTIFICATION – COMMON MISTAKES
We require:
All Configuration parameters information.
Configuration parameter values are SIGNED values.
Example: If the size of the parameter is 1 byte, then the
values are from -128 to 127 (And can NOT include 255!).
Note: bit mapped values are not consumer friendly for
Configuration V1 or V2!
Only Configuration Command Class Version 3 or Higher supports Unsigned Values, Bit Mapped Values, and
Enumerated Values.
MARKET CERTIFICATION – COMMON MISTAKES
Want to simplify
your user manual
and not include
this information?
Attach in Market
Certification
only.
MARKET CERTIFICATION – FEATURES
Features – New in Market CertificationFeatures provide a way to describe things that cannot be determined from technical information.
Example: Sensor Multilevel does not specify what type of sensor your device has in it!
Features will help market your product in the product catalog and at Z-Wave.com
Most common mistake in features – not reading the feature and believing that adding lots of features is a good thing.
Example: Add the feature “IP66 Rated” = Yes if it is true, but do not add it and set it = No if it is not.

MARKET CERTIFICATION – COMMON MISTAKES
Product Mark & Product Packaging MarkYes, we can accept marks smaller than the minimum size of 11mm x 13mm on a case-by-case basis.
Help us by providing a good photo of the mark as it is used, and provide us with the dimension information.
Check the Z-Wave Alliance websitefor updated graphics, or changes to the Brand Guidelines.
MARKET CERTIFICATION – COMMON MISTAKES
Product Mark & Product Packaging Mark
The mark does not have to go on the
front of the product or product package.
We understand that you worked hard on
your Apple-esk beautifully designed
product, but do not tell us that your design
is “too pretty” to have the mark on the
product – this will only delay your
certification.
MARKET CERTIFICATION – WHAT’S NEW
What’s New? Why S2 and Smart Start are New!
Proof of the S2 DSK is required (photo).
The S2 DSK “form” (Pin Code, QR Code, or Full DSK) follow Silicon Labs Z-Wave Specifications.
The S2 DSK presentation (size, placement, colors, etc.) is managed in Market Certification.
Review the “Security 2 (S2) andSmart Start Z-Wave Product Labeling Requirements” document downloadable from the Z-Wave Alliance Member website.
MARKET CERTIFICATION – HOW IT WORKS
