Calming the Storm Mark 4:35-41 Jesus and his friends used boats a lot. Sometimes they used boats to get where they needed to go. Sometimes they used boats to go fishing to catch their food. And, sometimes, they used boats just to get away from people and to relax a little bit. Since they used boats a lot, they knew a lot about boats. One thing they knew is that it’s not good to be out in a boat in a storm. Can you guess why? One evening, they were all out in a boat. Jesus was really tired, so he went to the back of the boat and went to sleep. While he was sleeping, a big windstorm rose up and the waves beat against the boat. The waves were so big they started coming over the sides. Can you guess what the disciples did? They woke Jesus up fast! They hollered at him and asked him, “How can you be asleep when we’re about to drown?!” Now, if you were Jesus, what would you do? Would you be afraid of the storm? Would you be mad at them for waking you up? What do you think he did? Jesus looked at his friends. Then he looked at the storm. Then he did something that surprised them all. He said to that storm, “Peace! Be still!” And that storm stopped! Then he asked his friends, “Why were you afraid? Do you STILL not have any faith?” Why do you think he said that? What do you think all those people in the boat thought when that happened? If Jesus could calm that storm AND calm his friends, do you think Jesus can help keep you calm when you feel anxious or worried about stuff? Try this: the next time you feel mad or sad or worried about something, you can whisper, “Peace. Be still.” And let God’s Spirit help you calm your spirit! • Calming the Storm Mark 4:35-41

Jesus and his friends used boats a lot. Sometimes they used boats to get where they needed to go. Sometimes they used boats to go fishing to catch their food. And, sometimes, they used boats just to get away from people and to relax a little bit.

Since they used boats a lot, they knew a lot about boats. One thing they knew is that its not good to be

out in a boat in a storm.

They hollered at him and asked him, How can you be asleep when were about to drown?!

Now, if you were Jesus, what would you do? Would you be afraid of the storm? Would you be mad at them for waking you up? What do you think he did?

Jesus looked at his friends. Then he looked at the storm. Then he did something that surprised them all. He said to that storm, Peace! Be still! And that storm stopped!

Then he asked his friends, Why were you afraid? Do you STILL not have any faith?

Why do you think he said that?

What do you think all those people in the boat thought when that happened?

If Jesus could calm that storm AND calm his friends, do you think Jesus can help keep you calm when you feel anxious or worried about stuff?

Try this: the next time you feel mad or sad or worried about something, you can whisper, Peace. Be still. And let Gods Spirit help you calm your spirit!
