The Second Form Class of 2012 joined us recently to prepare themselves

for “big school” next year. They didn’t waste any time getting to know

each other and the senior boys who assisted were brilliant in making

them feel welcome and part of the College Family

CRICKET Cricket Match Report College vs Glenwood(Away)(Limited to 50 overs) College won the toss and elected to bat on a hot Durban morning. Kewan Harries and Josh Rencken put on 43 for the first wicket which fell when Harries (19 off 29 balls) was out in the 9th over. Rencken (16 off 31 balls) went soon thereafter (52/2 after 11.2 overs) and Calvin Savage joined Gareth Orr. They batted sensibly together to add 75 runs for the 3rd wicket which fell in the 33rd over with the total on 127/3, Savage holing out unnecessarily at third man for a patient 37 runs from 65 balls. Orr (40 off 79 balls) departed softly 2 overs later after having done all the hard work and Grant Glutz joined Tim Guise-Brown. They added a quick 56 runs off 61 balls before Guise-Brown (39 off 38 balls) was out only to see Glutz (21 off 31 balls) out an over later! Greg Miller (11* off 17 balls) and Nick Berichon (16* off 14 balls) then batted well to get the team to 228/6 after their allotted 50 overs. A score which would prove to be 20 to 30 runs short in such conditions. Glenwood are a competent outfit and in chasing a paltry 146 in the first term on Goldstones had been found to be wanting, with College bowling them out for 108! Today, however, they would have other ideas on their home ground and a well-paced innings would be just the answer. A 116 run opening stand was only broken in the 29th over when Glutz induced the sweep for Reegan Smith to hold on to a regulation catch off Frost (42 off 68 balls). The wicket gave College a glimmer of hope and this was reinforced when Andy Charters rattled the stumps of SA u19 player Subrayen 4 overs later. (128/2 after 33.2 overs). Ramsaroop had batted well for his 74 scored off 116 balls but Daryn Dupavillon rattled his stumps two overs later with the total on 135/3 after 35.1 overs. At this stage of the Glenwood innings the College attack, despite the efforts of Charters and Glutz, became very loose, with seamer Smith being no balled out of the attack for a series of high pitched full tosses! Glenwood wicketkeeper/ batsman, Venter then came in and took the game away from College whilst 3 further wickets fell around him. It was fitting that he remained unbeaten at the end when in the 48th over Wissing hit the winning runs to give Glenwood a well deserved win on their home ground. LIBRARY MONITORS TEA A tea was recently held for the library monitors & staff, to recognise the valuable contribution made by the monitors to the efficient running of the school library. MOTOR SPORTMOTOR SPORTMOTOR SPORTMOTOR SPORT The final round of the South African Junior Off-Road Championship, the Mvoti Barkbuster and the penultimate round of the S.C.C Natal Regional Harescramble Championships were held in Greytown on the 8th October 2011. This hugely successful event was organised by the South Coast Cadets Committee and tirelessly assisted by Mr Mike Cooper with riders from all across South Africa in attendance. Racing on the day proved to be rather testing with temperatures in the mid thirties and a fast flowing course interspersed with numerous sections passing through tight trees added to the technicality of the 23km loop. Once again, Maritzburg College was well represented by a number of pupils participating in both the national and regional classes.
