1926: The sneaker revolution When boston school kids started using the term sneaker in 1887 as credit by an article in The New York Times, it was slang for their tennis shoes. The introduction ok Keds in 1916 by U.S. Rubber Company (Todays Uniroyal) was launch of the original sneaker brand, which popularized the term sneaker, brought sneaker wearing into pop culture and ultimately drove a new footwear category- sneakers. The next step in this footwear revolution happened a year

later when Henry Nelson McKinney, an agent fot the advertising firm N.W. Ayer & Son, coined the term

Sneakers to refer to Keds soft noiseless

rubber soles that allowed the wearer

to sneak up on unsuspecting

friends or family. So let the revolution

begin.

1924: Keds take the court

Keds becomes the preferred footwear for pro tennis players, making an appearance at thirteen tennis championships. Basketball icons and Olympic soccer champions soon follow suit, cementing a lifelong athletic legacy.

1926: A triumph for menswear  

Keds introduces the Triumph, which fuses fashion an athletics with a tweedy upper on top of the trademark rubber sole. It becomes an instant classic amongst the dance-all-night-set.

1934: Scientifically lasted Keds Keds announces two revolutionary improvements, the New Scientific Lasts and New Keds Shockproof Insoles. Air filled sponge rubber cushion the foot in the new Keds. The shockproof Insole protects feet by absorbing jolts and jars.

1938: Kedettes take the stage In a play for the ladies, Keds launches a line just for womens known as Kedettes the first high heeled shoes to offer a comfortable, shock absorbing rubber sole. Walking women rejoice.

1949: PRO-Keds flexes its muscles PRO-Keds make their debut with the classic royal. Designed to appeal to more serius athletes, like George Milkan (aka, Mr. Basketball), PRO-Keds go on to become a basketball court staple and must-have inner city fashion accesory, gracing the feet of some of the top basketball teams and players of all the times.

1951: Win in Keds Keds teams up with coach Frank Leahy and introduces Natural Support, a cushioned insole is shockproof and designed to enhance footwork & promote healthy feet.
