SPRING. THESIS

2013

THESIS_DEVELOP THE DIVIDE

Page 10: Maria Lyate 2013 Portfolio

The spring semester of Senior Thesis is geared toward producing a complete architectural design from start to finish. This includes a great deal of site exploration and study. This set of diagrams shows both existing parks and recreational fields within the city of Philadelphia. There is also an emphasis on which of these recreational

facilities can be linked to surrounding schools.

proposedBIKE ROUTES

In addition to looking at existing facilities and available parks in the city, I also explored bike paths, and bike routes that weave between buildings. This lead me to understand where the disconnects occured and how I

could reintroduce bike paths that connect both the northern and southern halves of the city.

PHILADELPHIA WATERFRONT TOWER

DESIGN EIGHT: TOWER PROJECT

Creation of a tower with specific emphasis and focus on structure and construc-tion. This tower is a place for philadelphia residents to experience beautiful views and escape their daily routine. The concept for this project was to create a simple and light structure that could contain observation decks but also offer an amazing

experience as you climb to the top of the tower.

DESIGN EIGHT: TD BANK PROJECT

The TD Bank project is a collaborative effort with Philadelphia University’s Interior Design students. A perforated plant wall runs from the exterior of the building to the interior to divide public and private spaces. Community members gather here to relax in the cafe, deposit checks and even make copies or

scans for their own personal use. This is the future of banking!

DESIGN SEVEN: ROME, ITALY

While studying abroad, While studying abroad, design was completed through hand drawing and sketch. A series of boards were created with no allow-ance for computer drafting. All design was researched in person on site and layered person on site and layered on single boards over a full semester. Each board holds a series of current, past, and

proposed designs.

MT. AIRY DANCE STUDIO

SPRING. DESIGN SIX

2011

DESIGN FIVE: MT. AIRY CENTER FOR DANCE
