from your friends at

S PRING HAS SPRUNG! I’ve enjoyed this early Spring

weather and am looking forward to wearing all the fun, stylish

spring clothes making their way to our boutiques. I’m hoping

the saying “April showers bring May flowers” is more fiction

than fact, especially since I’m already eager to pull out my

sandals and swimsuits!

We’re thrilled to share with you all of the fun and exciting

things happening at Lincoln Center this Spring. As evident

on the cover, the Easter Bunny is coming! Bring the kids and

grandkids to the Easter Bunny’s Garden in the old Campbell’s

in the Village space. The Bunny will be there March 23rd,

24th, 29th and 30th from 12:00 to 3:00 pm. (Don’t forget

your camera!)

The B Hive, our newest hair salon, is now open next to DOMO.

Pop in to see what the owners, Brady Davis and Dino Ballin, have done to the place. (Read more

about the B Hive on page 6.) Coming soon is Market Tavern, a modern American food restaurant now

under construction. They will serve up fresh and healthy salads, pastas, meats and other delicious

items made with organic ingredients. We’re looking forward to the restaurant’s opening slated for early

summer. As many of you may already know, Carats Jewelry has relocated to their new “home” in the

Atrium near Bud’s Seafood. If you haven’t stopped in yet, be sure to go by and check out the latest

jewelry and accessories in their stunning new store.

Many of you may be itching for more than a change in the weather this Spring. Maybe it’s time

for spring cleaning (have you seen the beautiful new linens at Lino Bella or stunning furniture at

C.R. Porter?), a new wardrobe (we have over 15 boutiques to meet your needs) or just a little “me

time” (how about a massage or pedicure?). From Easter hams at Podesto’s Market to gorgeous floral

centerpieces at Silveria’s Flowers & Gifts, we’re here to help get your home ready for this beautiful

time of year.

We hope you’ve enjoyed the last of the cool weather (fingers crossed!!!) and some of the many crab

feeds in our area. See you this Spring!

There is a buzz in Lincoln Center, and it’s coming from the Atrium. The B Hive Hair Salon, located next to Domo Japanese Sushi Bar & Grill, is now open and already attracting much attention.

The owners, Dino Ballin and Brady Davis bring different skill sets to the operation of the 22-station salon. They feel their individual strengths will leave no concerns unattended and allow them to achieve their common goal of presenting the most unique and enjoyable salon experience for both stylists and their clients. This is evident through the professionalism of the stylists and the upscale feel of the décor while still leaving a comfortable, friendly feeling for all who enter the double doors.

Most importantly, this pair has a great respect for this industry and is honored to have some of the very best hairstylists working in their salon. They are committed to keeping the stylists motivated and happy by offering bi-monthly in-salon education, advertising, and a true dedication to the stylists’ needs and concerns, allowing stylists to grow and refine an already stellar experience for their clients. “Hey, bottom line, I respect that these stylists choose to work with us and every day we will try to earn it,” says Dino. Stylists interested in working at The B Hive can attend their Open House on Saturday, March 23rd at 7:00 pm.

If you’re familiar with The First Tee of San Joaquin, then you’re well aware that this wonderful organization is about much more than the sport of golf. At The First Tee, golf and life lessons are seamlessly incorporated together to teach kids not only the fundamentals of golf, but also life skills. First Tee’s programs are designed around helping young people understand and ultimately develop Nine Core Values: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgment.

The organization was founded in 2002 and originally named “The San Joaquin Junior Golf Foundation”. After joining the national First Tee organization in 2008, the group’s name officially became The First Tee of San Joaquin. The First Tee’s curriculum was developed by experts in the field of positive youth development through sport and is delivered by caring adults who have been formally trained by The First Tee. In addition to learning fundamentals of the golf swing and the game, life skills are taught: Interpersonal skills, self-management, goal setting and resiliency skills, to name a few. “The values and lessons learned at First Tee are helping the children in our community develop the life skills needed to succeed in high school, college and beyond. Our coaches and board members are extremely passionate about this program,” says Don Miller, Executive Director.

In 2012 alone, 30 volunteer coaches, 10 board members and a large team of parent volunteers served over 500 youth between the ages of 7 of 17. The program is now is the process of expanding into the schools of San Joaquin County. “We are presently working in half a dozen schools in the area and looking for more sites,” reports Mr. Miller. “Our ‘Golf Fore Girls’ program on Tuesday afternoons has been especially popular.” With the addition of more sites, the need for more coaches is great. Training and support is provided and entry level golf skills are appreciated. The spring tour begins March 16th at Swenson Park Golf Course and The Reserve at Spanos Park, and runs for nine consecutive weeks. (Summer tour begins June 15th.) The cost for golfers is $60 and “golferships” are available.

For more information about becoming a coach or signing up a golfer, please

Health&BEAUT Y

We hear this all the time from our customers at Fleet Feet Sports Stockton. Well, I’m here to tell you…WE ARE ALL RUNNERS! Some of us faster, some of us slower, some of us tall, some of us short, some of us skinny, some of us not so skinny (and never really going to be - and that’s okay) and some of us walkers – which is just as good as running. All these types of people are what we really are. We choose to lead a healthy, active lifestyle. It’s an easy choice to make and one you should choose if you haven’t already. Think about the benefits: longer life, healthy heart, more time with your family and friends. One

thing we can promise is that life just gets better when you make that commitment. So let’s get past all those “resolutions” we made the first of the year and make the choice to lead an active life.

It’s simple to begin! Just lace up your shoes (but first make sure they are the right ones you’re going to get fitted with at Fleet Feet Stockton), get outside and start walking.

week 1: Keep it simple by starting with a walk around the block. Do this at least four times during the week. Keep track of how you feel. I guarantee you will feel better and better each week.

week 2: Now that you know you can do it, add some time. Make it a goal to walk for 15 minutes each day for four days.

week 3: Wow! Week 2 is over and you’re ready for more. Give it a shot and try to increase your time to 20 minutes. Mix in a little running during your time. Don’t go too big too fast. Two minutes of walking and one minute of running. Keep it

up! You’re doing great!

week 4 & Beyond: As the weeks progress, just try to increase your running time vs. your walking time. Soon enough you will be running for 30 minutes and maybe even more. Don’t worry about how fast or slow you’re going. As time goes along, you’ll find that comfortable pace you fit into. If your body just doesn’t like to run, then keep on walking. Whether you run a mile or walk a mile, you’re burning the same amount of calories. Remember, it’s about your overall health and being in “motion”.

Don’t forget to be prepared. That means taking water with you on your run or walk. Keep the body hydrated (fancy word for drinking water). When you sweat, you need those fluids back in you. Even if it’s cold out, you are still sweating, so bring along that handheld or hydration belt and drink about 6 oz. every 15 minutes.

See what I mean…it’s simple and fun. Grab your neighbor, spouse, friend or child and get started. If you need a place to start, walk the Lincoln Center mile we have mapped out for you or come join us on Tuesday nights at 5:30 pm for our weekly runs and walks. All abilities are welcome to join in on the fun. Feel free to come in any time to ask us questions, check out the latest gear or to just be social with us. Our family at Fleet Feet Sports Stockton is committed to you and your health. We live it everyday and would love to share it with you. So come be a part of our family. n

This month’s cover captured adorable little Hunter and his mom Nicole Kidd visiting the Easter Bunny at Lincoln Center. Two-year-old Hunter was thrilled at the opportunity to visit the Bunny early this year! Besides playing with the Bunny, Hunter especially enjoys trains, fire trucks, playing outside and wrestling with his dad, Ryan.

We’d like to extend a big thank you to Ryan, Nicole and Hunter! Nicole’s blue dress, jewelry and shoes are from Remedy. Hunter’s Easter shirt and shorts are from Sassy Pants Children’s Boutique. His Rainbow sandals are from Zuesters. n
