Thomas Müller, Safety Manager for Deilmann-Haniel GmbH Mr. Müller brings over 28 years of underground mining experience (7 years with DH/Redpath alone) to his role as Safety Manager. His broad range of experience grants him the ability to teach and positively influence the next generation of miners.

dramatically. Back in the 1970s and 80s, the hard coal mining industry saw many fatalities every year. Thankfully, due to diligent encouragement of proper safety culture, this statistic has been drastically reduced. It’s important for us to continually challenge each other and ourselves to live, eat and breathe the safety culture that has made Redpath and Deilmann-Haniel the great organizations they are today.Work safe, play safe and do your part to ensure you get home safe and healthy, every single day.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

SAFETY MESSAGE

“… it is the famous Redpath ‘can do’ attitude that is as strong today in our company as it ever was…”George Flumerfelt, CEO The Redpath Group

One of the most enjoyable aspects of my job is having personal contact with all of our employees (Deilmann-Haniel, Deilmann-Haniel Schachtostroj); it makes our workplace feel like a big family. We are so fortunate to have the opportunity to see different countries, visit different mines and experience different cultures within our company, and it’s important to remember that we are but a part of a larger global community. Since my start in underground mining, the safety climate has improved

The name of our refreshed global corporate newsletter is an inspired choice in my opinion, and the word itself has special meaning to underground mining people who are always talking about ‘advancing faces’, ‘getting more advance’ and asking questions like ‘how much did we advance last month?’ These comments and questions relate to things like the amount a tunnel or shaft has developed over a given time period. As mining contractors, we make our living by being able to advance shafts, tunnels and raises more quickly and more cost-effectively than our clients or competitors. Our estimators and operations people are all about understanding ‘advance’ on a daily basis. We succeed or fail due to the quality of an advance!

The name speaks to our evolution as a global company. We need to advance our skills in areas such as safety, productivity, shareholder and vendor relations. To advance implies ‘going forward’, ‘moving ahead’, and ‘making progress’. Redpath is a work in progress, and as we review our history, we are reminded of the significant growth we have already achieved. Looking to the future reminds us that we will need to continue to progress, to improve; to advance in all that we do. We will succeed in this quest for continual improvement because improvement is all about attitude, and it is the famous Redpath ‘can do’ attitude that is as strong today in our company as it ever was that will allow us to continually advance as a company. Safety - First, Last and Always.

Just who is Andy McParland? Here is a bit of his background, in his own words:“Born and raised in Northern Ireland, I emigrated to Canada to follow a family tradition in mining. I graduated from the Haileybury School of Mines in 1980, returning to Ireland in 1995. During this period I worked for many contract mining companies, principally J.S. Redpath Limited who I considered to be far and away the best.I rejoined Redpath in 2012 as Project Manager for Shaft 1 at Oyu Tolgoi in Mongolia. In September 2014, with the project in a Care and Maintenance phase, I was offered a new temporary assignment as Area Manager for Redpath in Europe, with a mandate to help develop business opportunities in the European sector.

Andy McParland, Area Manager, Redpath Europe. To prepare for the European assignment I spent 10 days in North Bay meeting and working with a wide range of people in various departments. It was really nice to revisit old friends and meet new ones. It was also great to see that after all these years Redpath still retains that family feeling. The Canadian trip was followed by a visit to Deilmann-Haniel in Dortmund, Germany. Jochen served as a great host and I really enjoyed meeting with his team, who are a very good bunch of guys. I was very impressed with both the organization and the manufacturing sector and look forward to developing a good working relationship with our Deilmann-Haniel colleagues.Prior to my appointment, Deilmann-Haniel and Redpath were engaged in initial negotiations on potential projects, one involving Eldorado Gold, Canada and their Greek subsidiary Hellas Gold, which has resulted in the award of a Training Program for Redpath in Greece.

This project is due to commence in March of 2015 and will hopefully lead to additional mine development work.2015 should be both a busy and an interesting year for Redpath in Europe. In the words of Jack Monnette, ‘It’s time to put some rock in the box!’”

Cerro Negro Team Graduates from Mining Fundamentals CourseOn November 15th, 2014, ten new underground employees participated in the first Redpath-led Fundamentals of Underground Mining Program, provided by Redpath South America for Goldcorp, at its Cerro Negro Mine. This program now has a total of 42 students that have either graduated or are in the

process of completing the program. Students spend a total of 192 hours of training over two, two week rotations. The training consists of 29 modules of theory and practical exercises. After being interviewed and selected by mine operation superintendents, the graduate students have now entered daily underground work activities at Eureka and Mariana Central mines.

The graduates are performing tasks such as extending utilities and advancing ventilation. The intent is for the program to serve as a baseline at Cerro Negro, for all underground employees; both front line staff and non-staff. The program is expected to assist employees in gaining a better understanding of safe, effective and efficient mining. The end goal is to make available a talented base of miners to grow the Cerro Negro mine. The new miners must be able to understand the mining process, safe operation of underground mining equipment and other essential skills which will ensure they are working to the highest calibre of safety and efficiency possible.

the permanent headgear foundations. The shaft will be blind sunk and concrete-lined to a depth of 85 m below the collar elevation. The sinking will be done using a “Scott- Derrick” system and six ton kibbles in conjunction with a single deck stage suspended by four electrically-linked winches. Two of the ropes will be utilized as guide ropes for the kibble/cross-head arrangement. The majority of the shaft will be raisebored in four lifts of approximately 500 m each. The top three lifts will be raisebored until the decline development crews gain access to the bottom of the shaft, thus facilitating the raisebore of the final lift. While the final section of shaft is being raisebored, the permanent headgear will be erected, followed by furnishing from surface. The shaft equipping/furnishing will be bunton sets at 6 m intervals with 12 m steel “top-hat” guides. The permanent

Contributors: Bennie Burger, Errol Harcombe and John ShillaberThe Mindola Deeps Project is divided into two phases; firstly to sink, raisebore, equip and commission a 2,000 m deep, 6.1 m diameter shaft, and secondly to develop approximately 10,000 m of Primary Access. The shaft will be constructed utilizing a combination of raiseboring with directional drilling and a portion from surface using a conventional blind sink. A large shaft collar and bulk cold-air intake duct will also be part of the development. The collar and cold-air duct are being constructed from a “box-cut” of some 16,000 m3 from surface to +/- 18 m. This excavation follows the initial pilot drilling for the raisebored section of the shaft from surface to 1630 level. The shaft section and cold-air duct will be constructed from 18 m back to the surface collar elevation, together with

shaft configuration includes two rock hoisting compartments and a single man/materials compartment. The majority of the 10,000 m of development work which started up in late November 2013, is to establish a decline system and access drives. The scope of the development work

entails developing a decline system from the existing mine workings on the 5220 level to the bottom of the new shaft, along with ancillary development for primary access to the ore body, shaft infrastructure facilities for rock hoisting and man/material handling. The shaft bottom infrastructure includes a Crusher Station, Clear water dams, Settlers, Surge bins/Silos and associated feed conveyors on the 6105 level, as well as the shaft loading

conveyor into measuring flask(s) and the skip loading facilities. What are some of the highlights of the project? One of the biggest highlights of the project was an effective startup; as Jim Redpath once stated: “The most important months during any start-up are the first and the last!” This provides the momentum that continues to drive the project forward through all challenges.During the first few months, the crew developing the 4960 level consistently achieved more than 150 m in a single end for the month. Instilling the Redpath focus on safe production is a priority and has been welcomed by our Zambian workforce. This success is largely attributed to a keen focus on daily and weekly reinforcement of Redpath’s Fatal Risk Elimination Protocols (Part of the Fatality Prevention Program) and Mopani’s SAFEMINING initiative. Red wrist bands with Redpath’s safety slogan were distributed to each and every team member, creating a constant reminder of Redpath’s safety culture both on and off the job.The first Redbore Raisebore drill in Africa was mobilized to the Mindola Project; fueled by a world record for longest consecutive operational hours (427 hours) on the 10” RVDS. With drilling accuracy being a top priority, the Mindola team established a maximum deviation of 25 mm over a distance of 457 m.What challenges has the project overcome? Being the very first Redpath project in Zambia, the team needed to be firing on all cylinders to ensure a safe and efficient setup. Despite the project being characterized by various challenges such as harder than expected ground conditions and waste removal constraints, development targets set for the project were consistently met or exceeded.

With employees bringing a diverse range of experience, a training center was established on site, catering to theoretical and practical training. This

opportunity allowed all employees to hone their skills to the same high level expected across all Redpath jobs around the world.Close monitoring and efficient Project Controls

were established to balance risk management with efficient and cost effective progress. Are there any challenges unique to the area in which you are working?Water is a major challenge in the tropical climate of Kitwe, with an annual rainfall in excess of 2 m. The excessive humidity and water pose challenges on surface excavation and civil works.Although the region has a strong network of local mining consumables and material suppliers, careful time and budgetary management was required as major plant equipment and replacement parts had to be sourced from South Africa. Was any special training required of the workforce to get the job done to Redpath standards? While Zambia is primarily a third world country, it has a long history in copper mining dating back to the 1930s. Consequently, a pool of general mine workers and supporting service industries in the district are still present.

In order to create a workforce with a skill level consistent with other global Redpath projects, all new employees are educated on Redpath procedures and standards prior to entering the workplace – on surface or underground. Specific training is given to those who will be operators on the Mechanized Mobile Machines, and ongoing training is offered to enhance all employees’ skill sets.Where was your equipment sourced? The majority of the plant and equipment was mobilized through South Africa although the Raisebore units (Redbore 90 and Redbore 100) were brought in from Canada and Australia, respectively. What valuable lessons were learned from this project that will improve our performance, moving forward?• You don’t build a business. You build people and the people build the business.• The most important months during a setup are the first and the last one.• We can either win as a team or fail as individuals.• If you keep on doing the same thing, you cannot expect a different outcome.• Today’s achievements are tomorrow’s standards. What is the current status of the project? With shaft handover slated for the end of 2017, and 500 days without a Lost Time Injury milestone on the horizon, the Mindola project is on the right track to becoming another great success for Redpath South Africa.

Proposed Allamaq portal location.

Redpath-Nuvumiut Awarded Allamaq Mine DevelopmentBy Guy HubertCanadian Royalties International (CRI) was recently awarded the first development phase of the Allamaq Mine to Redpath-Nuvumiut. The project is located near the Raglan Mine in Northern Québec, Canada, and it consists of the development of a 700 m access ramp from surface. Redpath’s Procurement and Logistic Groups, together with the Mobile Shop, are currently working out of North Bay on the mobilization of the equipment, material and consumables for the first 200 m of development, which will be shipped by sea from Halifax to Deception Bay, Québec in early February. Redpath’s crews are scheduled to be mobilized in April if CRI obtains the necessary environmental permits in time. Additional equipment and supplies will be shipped in May for the reaming scope of work. In excess of 7-8 km of development and raises could be required to bring the Allamaq nickel and copper deposit into production.

Grasberg Block Cave Development on ScheduleBy Doug WheelerPTRI development crews were on track to successfully complete development targets for 2014. In the fourth quarter, Freeport Indonesia demonstrated their total committment to safety by making the tough decision to curtail development and focus all of the crews on permanent ground support and rehabilitation of aged travelways. day remains the safest method for advancing through water-bearing soil to significant depths. In its 127-year history, Deilmann-Haniel has sunk more than 190 freeze shafts, becoming a significant driving force in developing freeze shaft technology. The bottom of the Ust-Jaiwa 1 shaft reached 251.3 m as of January 2015, with the concrete structure at 250.06 m. The Ust-Jaiwa 2 shaft is at a depth of 239 m and will also shortly have reached the freeze shaft level. By March the tubbing in both shafts will be extended from approximately 292 m to the pit bank. This safeguards the freeze shaft against the pressure of the water and rock mass, and prevents icing-up. Drilling into the salt takes place down to the final depth, the landings are started, and the installations assembled. After a long learning curve the work is progressing to schedule and sinking has now progressed to the potash bearing seam. The project is due to be completed in the first quarter of 2017.A total of 34 German and 303 Russian employees are working on site, including administration. Colleagues from Germany are housed 10 km from Berezniki (population of 168,000) either

in a residence belonging to the client, Uralkali, or in rented apartments. The journey to the site takes approximately 30 minutes.A great deal of emphasis on health and safety

was present right from the beginning. The introduction and systematic implementation of Deilmann-Haniel’s health and safety system, alongside the Redpath Fatality Prevention Program, has set the tone and strengthened the safety culture.Berezniki is almost 4,000 km from Dortmund and, as such, the journey from Germany takes 12 to 14 hours. Colleagues work six weeks on, three weeks off. Even if it is not always easy being away from family and friends for so long, the Deilmann-Haniel employees are happy to be at the site in Russia as a sinking project of this magnitude is certainly something special.

ON SITE: MINER DETAILS

Ust-Jaiwa OAO ‘Uralkali’ Potash MineBy Jochen Greinacher In March 2012, Deilmann-Haniel Schachtostroj commenced work on two shafts for the new Ust-Jaiwa mine for Uralkali in Russia. The new mine is in the Berezniki – Solikamsk area, approximately 200 km North of Perm on the western side of the Ural mountains. Alongside deposits in Saskatchewan, Canada, this region has the world’s largest deposits of potash. Uralkali operates a total of six potash mines with an overall production in excess of 10 million tonnes, making it the world’s largest producer of potash. The project scope covers the construction of two shafts with a diameter of 8 m. The final depth of the shafts are approximately 520 m and 430 m respectively, with the frost line at 245 m. Annual production at the new mines will be about 10 million tonnes and overall production at the other five existing Uralkali mines will also see an increase. On December 19th, 2013, the first kibble was pulled from Shaft 1. Sinking commenced on the second shaft at the end of February 2014.The geological and hydro-geological conditions made it necessary to sink the first 245 m of the shafts with the protection of a freeze wall. This involves a special procedure, which to this

exceeded the ground support targets and are looking forward to a quick ramp up, and continuing to make safe, efficient progress. The Grasberg Block Cave (GBC) areas, under the leadership of John McKay, Marc Tremblay and Suradi, successfully completed three breakthroughs (Grasberg Vent Drifts 1, 3 and 7) through to surface. The GBC Main Fan #2 was completed and is now operational and increasing the fresh air volume to support rapid development. With the completion of the Batch Plant in GBC #2 mid-year, concrete and shotcrete will now be readily available to the GBC work areas.

Guy Julien and Stefanus with the Redbore 70 HX.

Redbore 70 HX Raisedrills are a Welcomed SightBy Doug Wheeler Guy Julien, Raisebore Superintendent for PT Redpath Indonesia, is delighted with the arrival of two new Redbore 70 HX raisedrills that will expedite the vertical development on the Deep Mill Level Zone (DMLZ) and GBC mine expansion project. One of the main challenges with this project will be ensuring the workload is well-balanced to keep the drills turning.

Deep Mill Level Zone Intake #2 Raise CompleteBy Doug Wheeler Max McDermid, Ken Beyak and their team oversee the Mechanized Raising Program with the MRC crews averaging completion of three slot-raise draw-bells each month. The MRC crews have completed the widening of Intake #2 raise in the DMLZ mine to its final dimension of 550 m long and 6.0 m in diameter. Thanks go to Ronald Malau and his counterpart Donny Hindriarso for their Engineering support of the MRC Department. Mechanized Raise Climbing on a Literal ‘Steady Track’By Gary Gagain Jr. Mechanized Raise Climber operations continue to keep on a “steady track” as extensive raises are being driven in Red Lake, Ontario, Canada, both for Goldcorp Red Lake Gold Mines and Rubicon Minerals at the Phoenix Gold Project. Work at Goldcorp has seen Redpath continually driving raises for the operations sector since early 2008, and long raises (anywhere from 300 - 435 m) have also been completed for the Cochenour development project. To help safely excavate these lengthy raises, battery powered raise climbers were utilized to complete raise inspections, maintenance, and potentially respond to raise emergencies. This unique Redpath innovation will traverse up the raise at a prompt, steady pace without the drag of the bullhose used with the pneumatic drive systems. Raise climbers were mobilized in December 2014 at Rubicon to drive ore/waste passes and ventilation raises, and plans to start driving raises in ore to help with production schedules are in progress. Currently, four double-drive MRCs are on site and there is a possibility of the addition of two more before spring.

Ready for Action at Coppercliff’s North MineBy Gary Gagain Jr.Working for mining giants like Vale and Glencore near Sudbury, Ontario has

solidified Redpath’s reputation as the contractor of choice when it comes to Mechanized Raise Climbing. New development work recently awarded at Vale’s Coppercliff North Mine will allow Redpath to continue broadening the scope of the service offered. This project will see the application of a method of raise widening that has been developed over recent years; the raise climber is used as the vessel to bench out the raise pilot to the desired size in an efficient timeframe, eliminating the use of hand-held plugger drills. Recent excavations of this sort at the same mine have proven very successful in reducing the risk of musculoskeletal injuries; proving yet again that Redpath’s drive for a safer, more efficient way to work is the best way to work.

Lateral Development Progressing WellBy Doug Wheeler STCP (Special Tunnel Construction Projects) which includes the Zaagkam Tunnel Rehabilitation, Amole Drift Rehabilitation, and the Kasuang Drainage Drift are progressing well, with Superintendent Major Brist overseeing the progress. The Amole Drift Rehabilitation project scope, previously from XC 4 to XC 16, has been extended up to XC 30 with estimated completion by the end of 2015. The Zaagkam Tunnel Ground Support Rehabilitation, which is the only access through the mountain from Tembagapura to the GBC, is nearing completion with approximately one month remaining. The Kasuang Drainage Drift portal has been erected and several blasts were completed to square up the face while awaiting finalized tunnel design.
