    Celebrating Social Work Month

Social Work Matters is this years theme of theNational Association of Social Workers (NASW)Social Work Month (held each March) to raisepublic awareness of the social work profession.

To mark the occasion, the Family Outreach

various departments at the Naval Medical Cen-ter. A high percentage of counseling referralsto the ASY come directly from social workers atthe NMC. Heading for the Cloud: ASYMCA gets a IT upgrade

We are completely revamping the way we help military families! Withfunding graciously provided by the Parker Foundation, we have hired Cloud 4

Good to create and assist with implementing a participant database on aSalesforce platform. Using this software will put us in the cloud, transformour behind the scenes business processes and put us on the cutting edge of

web-hosted technologies. We kicked off this partnership with Social VenturePartners (SVP), an organization that provides leadership and technology guid-ance to non-profits, last Spring. We are very grateful for their donation oftime, talent, and vision they have helped us to create.

Since that time, our ASY IT team, led by Ken Davenport from SVP, Lyndsay Neer from YCO, AmandaCross from Family Outreach, and Katie DesBois and Brittany Catton from PR and Development, has been hardat work exploring the layout for the new system to house our many needs. Amanda noted, In Family Out-reach, we are especially excited to begin electronic charting, enabling social workers access to real time re-ports on client progress in counseling and streamlining our processes. The new system will enable depart-ments to share information about program participants and donations, event participation, and will facilitatesharing the impact that we make on military life. While our services will always be free, you can also look for

an ASY membership tied to this system in the future!

The San Diego Armed ServicesYMCA celebrated Valentines Daywith military families at a new lo-cation this year! Military familieswho have a family member de-ployed enjoyed a wonderful after-noon at the Reuben H. Fleet Sci-ence Center. Families explored themany exhibits of the Fleet ScienceCenter and enjoyed the newestIMAX movie free of charge.

Final thoughts...From the Desk of Executive Director Paul Steffens:

As I look at this SNAPSHOT, several things pop out. First, the

smiling and happy daughters enjoying their own very special eve-ning with their fathers a wonderful bonding evening that willnever be forgotten. And yes, we are exploring options for a MotherSon bonding event. The other item that I am continually remindedof by each SNAPSHOT is the fact that without solid partnershipsand support from the San Diego Community, military and civilian,in presenting our programs, we could never offer as many pro-grams nor could we serve as many families. Thank you all for

your continued support of our programs and military families. Asyou see on the last page, we reached a new high in the averagemonthly program participation.Let me close by congratulating our outstanding team of SocialWorkers who provide invaluable family counseling services tostrengthen family bonding as they make 200 home visits a month.H a p p y S o c i a l W o r k M o n t h . We also could not survive with-

out the solid support of our donors who provide the necessaryfunding for our programs. This support, plus our many fantasticvolunteers, help put the smiles on the faces you see.
