May 09, 2011 “We counted one hundred and eight people” MARCH MONDAY MEETINGS: This past semester, we attempted something new. The president of the group, Jared Spaulding, wanted to reach out to the college in a different way. Being a student studying physics, he wanted to bring speakers to UAlbany who could speak to how logic and science fit with faith. One event was called I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist and was presented by Apologist Dr. Frank Turek. Frank discussed only 2 of his four points: does truth exist and does God exist? Using logic and scientific data, he answered yes. This talk brought out 108 people and out of that, around 90 were people I didn’t know. The presentation is a two part series and Frank will be back next semester to give both parts in a two night event. This even appealed to more than just Christians. At the end of the night, the floor was opened for a Q&A time and group of atheists got in line to debate with Frank. It was a great night and this night and others, were due to the desire of Jared to want to reach the campus. UPCOMING PLANS: With the end of the spring semester here and the summer semester beginning, in the works is a summer bible study and an evangelism outreach on the campus. A driving force in these is Daniel. After speaking with him a couple of times, I came to hear his story. He was an atheist and in January he was reading about the evidence of the resurrection of Christ. He paused, looked out of the window and thought ‘this makes sense’. He said he then felt God’s presence and accepted Christ. Daniel is excited to share Jesus with others and is looking forward to growing in God through these bible studies. LEADERSHIP: As the school year changes, so does the student leadership of Impact. We have four leadership positions on the executive board (eboard): they are President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. These positions are currently filled by Jared, Lianne, Michelle, and Chris, respectively and they will be replaced by Liza, Peter, Benson and Dexter, respectively. More about our eboard to come! “We counted one hundred and eight people”

MARCH MONDAY MEETINGS: This past semester, we

attempted something new. The president of the group,

Jared Spaulding, wanted to reach out to the college in a

different way. Being a student studying physics, he wanted

to bring speakers to UAlbany who could speak to how logic

and science fit with faith. One event was called I Don’t

Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist and was presented by

Apologist Dr. Frank Turek. Frank discussed only 2 of his

four points: does truth exist and does God exist? Using

logic and scientific data, he answered yes. This talk

brought out 108 people and out of that, around 90 were

people I didn’t know.

The presentation is a two part series and Frank will

be back next semester to give both parts in a two night

event. This even appealed to more than just Christians. At

the end of the night, the floor was opened for a Q&A time

and group of atheists got in line to debate with Frank. It

was a great night and this night and others, were due to the

desire of Jared to want to reach the campus.

UPCOMING PLANS: With the end of the spring semester

here and the summer semester beginning, in the works is a

summer bible study and an evangelism outreach on the

campus. A driving force in these is Daniel. After speaking

with him a couple of times, I came to hear his story. He

was an atheist and in January he was reading about the

evidence of the resurrection of Christ. He paused, looked

out of the window and thought ‘this makes sense’. He said

he then felt God’s presence and accepted Christ. Daniel is

excited to share Jesus with others and is looking forward to

growing in God through these bible studies.

LEADERSHIP: As the school year changes, so does the

student leadership of Impact. We have four leadership

positions on the executive board (eboard): they are

President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. These

positions are currently filled by Jared, Lianne, Michelle, and

Chris, respectively and they will be replaced by Liza, Peter,

Benson and Dexter, respectively. More about our eboard to

come!
