Hello, dear fellow Toastmasters throughout the District 76. This is Bunzo Suzuki, Chair of the 2014 District 76 Spring Conference in Saitama. As of March 12, we have 65 days or a bit more than two months remaining before the opening of this year’s Spring Conference. This is how all of us at the Conference Preparation Team are pacing ourselves in our preparations for the exciting annual event of the District 76.

The 2014 Spring Conference in Saitama starts on May 16 and ends on May 18. The schedule structure is similar to such in the past conferences. Friday, May 16, is a pre-conference day, Saturday, May 17, is Workshops, opening banner march, guest keynote, Japanese Speech Contest to be followed by the welcome gala party.

Sunday, May 18, is the day of the highlights of this Conference. The English Speech Contests finale is one of them. The other is the presence of our guest of honor, Daniel Rex, Chief Executive Officer of Toastmasters International. This will be a rare opportunity to learn firsthand from the very key person where Toastmasters activities overall stand now and where they are heading.

This year’s conference theme is “Show Us Your Shine in Saitama”. We are currently doing our best to prepare a stage on which all of you, participants, will shine and share with other fellow members your brilliance

at its best.

Have you ever been to a District Conference? If YES, please add this one to your attendance records and you will not be disappointed. If NO, then, this is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference this year. Please check with one of your club officers to learn what it takes to become a part of this fantastic conference to be held at Rafre Saitama, a gorgeous modern facility. .

We look forward to seeing you all in Saitama soon and best regards,

Bunzo Suzuki

Educational Achievers in February

Our activity, as a news letter team, came to the turning point of our term. We started struggling but gradually learned to manage our work. And now, I am glad and proud to be a news letter team. I am truly grateful that I came to encounter TM members I have never met before. I have contacted these TM members via mails, but they are all supportive answering interviews or sending their scripts for TM News Letters. I am truly appreciated their efforts and contributions and this is how TM news letters are published. Now I consciously look for those who support TM News Letters when I participate in the contests. Now my next plan is to organize the humorous poem contest (Senryu) in the TM news letter. Joins us and compete if you are a great poet with 5.7.5 style! DTM: Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) is Toastmaster’s highest member award. Those who have achieved both the Advanced Communicator Gold (ACG) in the Communication Track and the Advanced Leadership Silver (ALS) in the Leadership Track are eligible to make application with the World Headquarters. With DTM, those who have earned this highest honor is regarded as having fully completed the two tracks by going through various manuals and practicing leadership in their clubs, district, and real life. HPL: High Performance Leadership Program is one of the requirements to receive the Advanced Leadership Silver (ALS) in the Leadership Track. The program requires you to form and lead a team for a certain selected project and thereby provides you with an opportunity to undergo hands-on training to develop leadership while working with others in the team. Your project can be anything, whether or not in the framework of the Toastmasters Club, so long as it is a worthwhile activity involving cooperation of others. You are also required to recruit a guidance committee that will meet with you at the end of each of the five stages of the program from planning through presentation of the results and provide helpful feedback.
