City Navigation AssistanceInformation Systems Project / B.E. Third YearNov 2009

Furniture DesignThe project was to design a piece of furniture with max volume of 3.5 m3 and fabricate it in the metal workshop.

This design is of a wall hanging CD rack. It is made of essentially two elements : a wall hanging metal sheet with welded grooves and 20 metal members of varying lengths which slide in these grooves.

First Year Metal WorkshopMar 2008

The sliding members are of varying lengths and they can be set to form different paterns on the CD rack.

The CD’s are placed in the gaps formed between the members.

Supela Commercial Complex

The design was submitted for a competition conducted by the municipal corporation of Bhilai (CG), India, for the construction of a commercial complex in their city.

A team of two interns worked on the design but all the following drawings and representations are mine.

TheThe plot is almost 1000m2 and has main roads on two sides. The complex is proposed in one one of the busiest areas of the city, Supela Market.

TheThe area is buzzing with pedestrians most of the time and thus the design of the complex should be such that it makes most of such an exposure and is easily accessible from these roads. As most of the businesses in this market are dependent on these pedestrians, keeping the design so as to facilitate walk-ins is must.is must.

Immersive theatre is a new concept gaining much popularity in cities like London and New York.

As the name suggests, it As the name suggests, it entails an all immersive play experience, engaging not only visual and auditory senses, but also touch, smell and even taste.

The audience, in a group The audience, in a group of not more than 15 people at a time, is ushered in on a vast set prepared for the play. The set is so designed that each part has actors enacting a different enacting a different scene. The actors engage with the audience as they perform and lead them through the set as the story unfolds.

Immsersive TheatreIndependentOct 2011

The design of an Immersive Theatre should provide the flexibility to accommodate the various set builds of different plays and allow movements of the audience; while still having a robust skeleton to support these set builds and constrain the movements of the audience to an extent.

The design should support the dynamic nature of immersive drama and provide provisions for smooth flow of the audience from one section of the building to another.

Thus, the design of the theatre should be like that of a maze, but with open spaces, giving an illusion of a dynamic and different world.dynamic and different world.

I calculated the minimum area for a scene / performance to be 55m2. The design of the theatre should be such that the building is divided into sections, and these sections can further be divided into sets where scenes would be enacted.

Taking this minimum area to be 1X, I added differentdifferent sections to the design, with areas as multiples of 1X. SO that at any time, for a particular play, any section can be divided to form multiple sets of area 55m2.

The core contains the water pumping mechanism which pumps the water from beneath the ground floor to the base slab, third and fourth floors. From the floors above, it again falls to the base slab forming a pool.

Water jets are present on the periphery of the base slab which form a curtain of water around the ground floor. The jets are turned off for the entry/exit of people.

EuphoriaProfessionalMay 2012

I was part of the design team for the latest pro-ject of my firm: Euphoria - Lavish Living, a high-end residential complex with five muti-storey apartment buildings.

Raipur is the capital of the newly formed state of Chhattisgarh, which has just witnessed a boom in real estate. The requirement was to design the most luxurious apartments the city has ever seen; with spacious homes and all the modern amenities. The project was to be built on an area of 130,000 sq.ft. The road-facing area of 40,000 sq.ft. was to be left for planning a commercial complex in the near future, while the rest of the land to be used for the residential project.

Each apartment has an area of 2520 sq.ft. with sixty apartments in total. Each six-floor build-ing has twelve apartments and is serviced by two elevators. The club house is three floors with a total area of 5,000 sq.ft. In addition, there is a swimming pool, a tennis court and a 4,000 sq.ft. lawn.

The design team consisted of five people: A head architect, a senior designer, a junior designer and two interns. All of the following drawings and representations are mine.

The construction of Euphoria

The design was an entry to the “Hussain Memorial Art Gallery” design competition. The gallery is to be constructed in my hometown of Raipur (India). The gallery is being built to encourage out-of-state artists to visit the city and exhibit their artwork.

Art+ResidenceIndependentSep 2012

The requirement was to build in a 25,000 sq.ft. space, a gallery for the exhibition of all kinds of art including paintings, sculptures, photography and modern-art installations.

The gallery also required a living space for the visiting artist and a storage-cum-studio area for the preparation and storage of artwork, especially installations.

The design won the 3rd Place in the competition.

The gallery is enclosed by a glass facade made up of highly reflective black glass.

This gives the gallery the “separate from the outside world” quality. The glass facade and the roof reflect the interiors and completely submerges the being into the ambience.
