We are also asking that you consider volunteering some of your time for the many events that we sponsor. Should you renew by mail, please include your name and all contact information on a note so that I can ensure it's all up to date. Otherwise, I'll see you at the membership meeting at the Partridge House. The student art display at the Provident Bank is a do not miss! It will be up until the end of March. Be sure to check it out. Following that will be our own talented members with the theme of "Spring Into Summer". Also, don't forget that the annual meeting will also include an art supply swap. Time to start thinking about Spring and the upcoming events and Art shows. Please save these dates onyour calendar and plan to participate to help make them successful. The Annual Membership meeting isApril 18 at the Partridge House. "Spring into Summer" HAN group art show will run April-June at theHampton Provident Bank. The 5th annual "Art in Bloom" is June 14-16 in partnership with the HamptonGarden Club and hosted by the Partridge House. These events are open to paid up HAN members andall art mediums, with no commissions or entry fees. It's a chance to show case your creative in ourcommunity. The call for artist is listed below in this newsletter. Just a reminder to renew your 2017 HAN membership, contact membership director Julie Martinelli 603-601-8010. Every member is so important to keep the Arts alive in the Hampton area and you will be ableto participate in all the great events. Call for Artists

CALL FOR ARTIST: 'Spring into Summer" group show April-June at the Provident bank. Open to allmediums and must be ready to hang. The pieces should be 16 by 20 or larger size, limited to 30X32 Artist may enter up to four med size paintings or two large paintings or 5 would be for small to med size& 2 for large paintings. The bank has room for 30 paintings, so we need about 6 artist to display. If youare interested in displaying please contact chair Peg Duffin at 603-929-1098 oremail [email protected]. Drop off date is April 3rd and pick ups is June 30th at Provident Bank.. CALL FOR ARTIST: "Art in Bloom" all mediums accepted, oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, mixed media,photography, sculpture, book covers, 3-D art. Any subject matter, EXPECT floral because the HamptonGarden Club members will be interrupting the art work with flower arrangements. Drop off will be themorning of June 14 at the Partridge House and opening reception will be that evening, Pick up will beJune 16 at 4:30. Amy Boyle has 2 Exhibits in March

Amy O'Boyle is featured in 2 exhibits this month. The Community Gallery at the Currier Museum of Art iscurrently exhibiting artwork of Art Center Faculty, along with other staff and volunteers through March27th. The reception will be held on March 11th, 11am-1pm, and the second Saturday is always free forNH residents 10am-noon. The Audubon Center at Massabesic is featuring "The Heart of Nature" exhibitfrom March 4th- April 22nd. The reception is also scheduled for March 11th, 3-5pm.

April 2 Program Opens Window to Hidden African American HistoryHampton – On Sunday, April 2, authors Reverend Deborah Knowlton and Michelle Armosky Sherburnewill bring hidden history about slavery and black heritage to light in a program sponsored by the HamptonHistorical Society. Entitled “Windows into African American Life in New Hampshire,” the event is freeand all are welcome.

Knowlton, who recently published “Color Me Included,” will share stories from her book about theenslaved and free blacks she discovered in the records of the First Congregational Church in Hamptonwhere she is the pastor.

Sherburne’s new book is “Slavery and the Underground Railroad in New Hampshire.” She will discussthe overlooked history of slavery in New Hampshire along with NH’s abolitionist movement, undergroundrailroad and 21st century commemorations.

Come celebrate the African American contributions that Knowlton and Sherburne have discovered. Theprogram will be held at the First Congregational Church, 127 Winnacunnet Road in Hampton, at 4:30

YOUTH IMPRESSIONS ART SHOW

The Hampton Arts Network is pleased to announce the 5th annual Youth Impressions Art Show atthe Provident Bank in Hampton, beginning February 1. Thirty pieces of artwork from students inGrades 3 - 8 at Marston School, Sacred Heart School, and Hampton Academy were selected by ajury of 3 HAN artists. Awards for first, second and third place will be given in the Grade 3 - 5category and in the Grade 6 - 8 category. The artwork will hang at the Provident Bank until March31. The public is welcome to cast "Peoples' Choice" ballots at the bank until February 28. This isanother shining example of HAN at work in the community. Enjoy!

Hampton Arts Network is proud to be sponsoring the fifth annual Youth Impressions Art Show thiswinter and I look forward to working with you in this important endeavor. The purpose of this event is toshowcase and recognize the artistic talents of our younger students in the Hampton schools. This is ajuried art show for Hampton area students in Grades 3 - 8. Our co-sponsor for this event will again beProvident Bank and we thank them for their generous support through their "Lobby for theArts" program. Please note the following important information regarding this year's show.Eligible Participants - Students in Grades 3 - 8 at Marston School, Hampton Academy and Sacred HeartSchool

Art Specifications - Any medium suitable for hanging. Maximum size is limited to 16 x 20 inches. Notheme required.

Procedures - From the submitted pieces, a jury of 3 Hampton Arts Network artists will select a total of 30pieces for hanging in the show--15 from Grades 3-4-5 and 15 from Grades 6-7-8. The jury will alsoselect 1st, 2nd and 3rd place entries from the 15 pieces in each of the two Grade categories.

Show - The 30 selected pieces will be mounted by Hampton Arts Network members and appropriatelyhung in the lobby areas of Provident Bank (Hampton) for the show. During the show weeks, visitors tothe bank will have the opportunity to view the student art and submit their choices for pieces to beawarded People's Choice ribbons.

Juried Awards - The 1st place entries from each of the two Grade categories (3-5 and 6-8) will receive$25 and a certificate. The 2nd place entries from each of the Grade categories will receive $15 and acertificate. The 3rd place entries from each of the Grade categories will receive $10 and a certificate.

People's Choice Awards - 1st, 2nd and 3rd place "People's Choice" ribbons will be awarded to thepieces from each of the Grade categories receiving the most "votes" from visitors to the show. (6 total

Important Dates - All art pieces being submitted will be collected in January following the school holidaybreak (specific date and directions will be forthcoming). The jury will then judge the art, select the piecesfor the show and the selected pieces will be mounted and prepared for hanging. Pieces not selected willbe returned to the teachers. The show at Provident Bank will open on February 1 and will closeon March 31. Art pieces will be returned to the teachers at each school after the show ends.

Reception - An evening reception for artists and their parents is sponsored by Provident Bank and will beheld in March (date will be forthcoming). The awards will be announced and presented to thestudents at this reception.

I am pleased and excited to be part of this worthwhile project for students. After a 36-year career inpublic education as a teacher, principal and district administrator, this is an opportunity for me to be partof something very special for these young artists.
