NATIONAL PIG DAYThank you for another wonderful All Saints celebration of National Pig Day! We had over 200 pigs race, and around 120 beef or turkey hotdogs sold! As a community we were able to raise $700 for the Heifer Foundation. You can learn more about this wonder-ful foundation at http://www.heiferfoundation.org. A special thank you to Misty Deeds and our seventh grade students for stepping in and orchestrating a “hog wild” day of fun and competition!

CHAPEL NOTESToday is Ash Wednesday. It is the first of the forty days of Lent, and named for the custom of placing blessed ashes on the fore-heads of worshipers at Ash Wednesday services. The ashes are a sign of penitence and a reminder of mortality, and may be imposed with the sign of the cross. Lent is a season of repentance, fasting, and self-reflection. All of this happens with the knowledge of God’s love and grace. Lent and Ash Wednesday are a time in which we are encouraged to be intentional with God, with ourselves, and with each other. We can look at our lives and see where we are in our relationship with God. Please know that you are welcome to join us any morning in chapel.

Blessings,Chaplain Paige+

PATRIOT SPOTLIGHTSophomore Sebastian Whitaker had the experience of a lifetime in February as he served as a delegate with approximately 300 students from around the world at the Model G-20 Summit in Beijing, China.

The Knovva Academy host the Model G20 Youth Leadership Summit in hopes of bringing together high school students from around the world for a five-day, fully experiential learning experience. Students participate in interactive workshops, lectures, and classes based on real G20 topics, then turn knowledge into action, drafting agreements and strategically networking with other G20 countries.

“At the Summit, I learned about global issues and negotiation techniques used by countries to solve these problems. We had amazing speakers everyday from all over the world,” Whitaker said. “Then, we were assigned a country to represent and began negotiating with other countries to improve and advance our assigned country. I was assigned President of Mexico. At the end of the Summit, we held mock press conferences to answer questions.”

“I would absolutely recommend for anyone to apply for the Model G20 Summit,” Whitaker said. “The 12-hour days are long, but you learn so much and it is so fun. I learned what the G20 is, as well as negotiation techniques. I learned about global per-spectives on issues affecting the whole world. Also, I learned that the actions of every country affect all the others so there must be cooperation between nations.”

He is eligible to apply for Knova’s Y20 Summit in which a group of G20 delegates are invited to attend the actual G20 Summit and present to the leaders of the G20 countries issues facing young people around the world.

PROJECT GRADUATIONSenior and junior parents are joining forces to keep our gradu-ates safe. Project Graduation, a drug-free, alcohol-free graduation night party, provides a safe and exciting event to ensure the All Saints’ seniors stay safe on graduation night. All donors will be recognized the week of graduation on signage in Jones Gym and outside of Patriot Gym. If you would like to make a donation to Project Graduation, please contact Dana McNeice @ 745-7701 or email Cindy Taylor at [email protected]. All donations are welcome. No amount is too small.

LIBRARY NEWSIt’s hard to believe there’s another Book Fair on the horizon! We’re planning a “dino-mite” event. It will be in the library March 22-29, with our Donut Breakfast on Wednesday, March 27. Scholastic is introducing a new “eWallet” feature that allows you or grandparents to go online and fill a child’s wallet with money. No muss, no fuss! Since we aren’t completely sure how this is going to work, it’s so brand-spankin’ new, you may still purchase Book Fair Buck$ for you child as you have in the past. We’re excited! Please see the attached form to purchase Book Fair Buck$.

Congratulations!Patriot Artists of the Week

BasketballGirlsThe All Saints high school girls basketball team finished their season in the TAPPS North Region finals falling to Plano Coram Deo 53-49 in a close ballgame. This was the second time in the last three seasons that the All Saints’ girls have reached the regional finals. They beat Ovilla Christian 51-50 in the area finals to advance to the regional game. Congratulations to Coach Simons and all of his girls on a good season, and next year looks fun as the Patriots return a strong group of young players.BoysThe All Saints high school boys’ basketball team won the district for the fifth consecutive season sharing the title with Abilene Christian going 5-1 in district play. They ended their season on the road in the TAPPS north area finals with a 61-59 loss to the number one ranked Ovilla Christian team that made it on the TAPPS 2A State Tournament. It was a tough ending as the boys were competing for their fourth consecutive trip to the TAPPS state tournament, but it was a successful season overall and a strong nucleus of players return for next year.

TennisThe All Saints high school Tennis teams competed in the Levelland Tournament on March 1 and 2. Both the JV and varsity girls and boys teams competed.

Andy Banister and Clay Dickerson won second place in the JV Boys Doubles. Defending TAPPS 2A State Champion Laela Tello had a big day and won the Varsity girls’ singles title and the defending state-runner up boys doubles team of Cole Beasley and Vincent Paone won third place. Overall it was a great two days for Coaches Breler and Tello and the All Saints high school tennis players.

TrackThe All Saints High School track teams also got their competitive season going on Friday at the Eagle Relays at Roosevelt High School. It was a great first meet for all of the Patriots.

2ND ANNUAL CHILI COOK-OFFCongratulations to sophomore Jackie DeClerk’s mom, Shalia DeClerk for cooking up the winning pot of chili at the Middle School and High School Student Council Second Annual Chili Cook-Off. She received a trophy made by Freshmen Chase Farnsworth and Spencer Johnson along with a $100 gift certificate. Two people tied for second place, Sara Johnson and Jeff Jaynes. Second place winners received a $50 gift certificate.

The Chili Cook-Off was another huge success, with twenty-three entries. The MS and HS Student Council was able to earn close to $1,000.

The students would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone that par-ticipated this year, with a special thank you to Buck Maples for cooking all of the hotdogs and being so supportive. We are looking forward to continu-ing this fun tradition next year.

SEVENTH GRADE GIVES BACKThe seventh grade had a busy day on Wednesday, February 27. They led cha-pel that morning with the parable of the Good Samaritan. Taking inspiration from this parable, they incorporated many tenets of The All Saints Way into the homily. One of those principles is to take part in community service. That same evening, the seventh grade served dinner at Lubbock Impact. We had thirty-eight representatives from All Saints present with students, parents, and teachers. The evening was another great success with students learning the importance of serving others. We’d like to extend a special thank you to homeroom mom, Amanda Mead, for her tireless efforts in coordinating our donations and service with Lubbock Impact this school year. 9
