Plant Asset Management
Why Plant Asset Management?
Currently Plant Asset Management focuses on instrumentation performance
What about the infrastructure for the instrumentation?
Traditional Analog Circuits
March 31st and April 1st, 2009 Mile High Industrial and Automation Conference
4-20mA
Only 1 value is transmittedOnly one direction
Enabling Factors with FF
March 31st and April 1st, 2009 Mile High Industrial and Automation Conference
•Increased intelligence closer the process•online performance indication through process & device diagnostics•increased process stability
•Improvements•increasing plant availability•increasing productivity and product quality•less raw & waste material
•During longest lifecycle period of the plant: operation

Environment of the Fieldbus Infrastructure
Fieldbus Installations have to resist a lot of influences the drop of signal-quality of older field devices degrading of shielding, earthing and grounding noise & ripple, caused by other peripheral
devices, causing a drop of signal quality and interfere communication
negative effects of temperature, humidity, UV-light, vibrations
These are well known effects and their influence needs to be reduced by monitoring the fieldbus physical layer – no more “black hole”

Fieldbus Physical Layer Diagnostics
March 31st and April 1st, 2009 Mile High Industrial and Automation Conference
Why HSE for the Diagnostics? Separate bus recieves diagnostic information regardless of DCS
Vender neutral protocol
Integration of Ethernet-based networks into FF-system architecture
FF-Function blocks
FF-Alarms
Ethernet – Accepted Physical Layer
Use of standard ethernet hardware
Virtually Unlimited number of stations are possible
Virtually Unlimited Ethernet Network length
High transmission speed of HSE
What are the Online Diagnostics? Monitoring electrical values including alarming
voltage level bus power supply ambient temperature segment current load ripple noise jitter (each device) signal level at each device
Monitoring communication values address/ live list for devices on the segment
Communication statistics frame errors PDU (protocol data units) bus idle times cyclic – and acyclic communication
