Holy Communion During Lent

5:30 p.m. in the Chapel, on the

following Wednesdays:

March 6

March 20

What is the Meaning of Lent ?

Lent is the Christian season of preparation before

Easter. Ash Wednesday marks the first day, the

beginning of the season of Lent, a period of 40

days prior to Easter (Sundays are considered “mini-

Easters, “ i.e. celebrations of the resurrection of

Christ, and are not included in the count).

Therefore, there are 40 days from Ash Wednesday

to Easter, excluding the Sundays (it is

inappropriate to fast on Sunday). Forty days

correspond to the 40 days of Jesus’ struggle and

temptation in the wilderness (Luke 4:2); the 40

days Moses fasted on the mountain (Exodus

34:28)’ Elijah’s 40 days in flight to the mountain of

God (1 Kings 19:41); and of course the 40 years of

Israel’s wanderings in the desert.

Thoughts During Lent

Take time to be with God

Spend 40 hours with God, 1 hour each day for

40 days

God is not in a hurry.

You have all the time there is

“Be still and know that I am God”

Is it possible to spend 1 hour with God?

There is a time for every thing…

The Pastor’s Discretionary Fund helps

provide ass is tance to our

congregation as well as Barrow

County neighbors who ask us for

financial assistance with utility bills,

rent or mortgage, medical needs,

fuel or other financial needs. If

you would like to contribute to

this ministry, please leave your donation on the

altar during Holy Communion or designate your

check or envelope “PDF.” Thank you.

The Barrow County Cooperative Benevolence

Ministries (BCCBM) manages

the Winder Food Pantry,

monthly Food Distribution at

Holly Hill, the Winder Clothes

Closet, supports the Winder

Boys & Girls Club and

participates in Food 2 Kids

and Food For Families.

With financial contributions and money from the

Clothes Closet sales, BCCBM provides funds to the

Church of the Month for the financial assistance.

Bethlehem First is the “Church of the Month” for

March. Our GO Team has interviewers lined up to

assist Barrow County residents who are in need of

financial aid. Please pray for our GO Team

volunteers and those who are in need.
