EASTER PRAYER

HEAVENLY FATHER and GOD of MERCY, we no longer look for Jesus among the dead, for He is alive and has become the Lord of life. From the waters of death you raise us with Him and renew your gift of life within us. Increase in our minds and hearts the risen life we share with Christ and help us to grow as your people toward the fullness of eternal life with you. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad.

(Psalm 118)

From Your Pastor… We are naturals at sharing good news like our basketball

team won the championship or our daughter and husband

just had a baby girl. What about our capacity to share

incredible spiritual news like Jesus Christ has arisen?

After dying on the cross as the obedient Son of God, Jesus

speaks the final word—life, grace and love! The

Scriptures for Easter describe various people who witness

the empty tomb (John and Peter) or even see Jesus, like

Mary Magdalene. However, it was John, the beloved

disciple, who first believed and encouraged others like

ourselves to believe in God’s power that conquered death,

sin and suffering. As we celebrate Easter, let’s allow

God’s mercy to be the balm that heals our blindness or

resistance to embrace this victorious work of Jesus. When

we consciously reflect on our lives, what gives us cause

for rejoicing in midst of our struggles and losses? The

tremendous gift of the Risen Lord is that we are granted

possibilities to see him in our ordinary and sometimes

troubled lives, experience him in our prayer and reception

of the sacraments, especially the Holy Eucharist, and share

is his presence as we attempt to love and be nurtured by

other’s care for us. This is the powerful truth of our

Christian faith. Every Easter is a step in the spiritual

journey of discipleship, for we are called to rejoice in the

belief and awareness of the Risen Lord Jesus. It is He who

calls us to search for him and discover his goodness,

strength, hope and joy in our lives. Let us rejoice and

praise the Risen Lord! Alleluia! Happy Easter to all!

Congratulations to our Serra Club Altar Server Recipients of St. Patrick parish, who were recognized on March 13th: Bailey Blackford, Isabella Jetensky, Jack Pille, Dylan Chatt, and Lucas Niewohner. We are grateful for their service and example. May God Bless them with grace!

FAITH FACT Why is the EASTER celebration 50 days?

In the church liturgical year, Easter is more than just one day. Following the forty days of Lent, Easter starts on Holy Saturday night with the Easter vigil and runs through Pentecost Sunday, celebrating Jesus’ triumphant victory over death and his resurrection to new life. The use of symbols is truly important to help articulate our faith, beliefs and values. At Baptism, we are given a white garment and a candle that represent the Lord’s victory over sin and death; likewise the white pall that is laid on the casket during a funeral liturgy is a promise of eternal life with Christ. With hope and awareness of God’s goodness, we are a joyful Easter people, assured of everlasting salvation and glory. This is the reason to celebrate Easter for more than a day or week!

The Lighter Side Q: Why did the Easter egg hide? A: He was a little chicken!

Q: What do Easter Bunny helpers get for making a basket? A: Two points, just like everyone else on the team.

Q: What do you call a mallard that plays basketball? A: A slam duck.

Announcements: Our Holy Week celebrations could not be meaningful, prayerful

and joyous without many helpers. Thank You to all volunteer

liturgical ministers, servers, musicians, singers, church

decorators and ushers! All the Easter stewardship gifts and

flower donations are marvelous reminders of the new life and

hope of Jesus Christ. May the grace of the Risen Lord renew

our faith and may God Bless You! Fr. Mark

Religious Ed: Classes will meet at the regular times

this week: Pre-K – 6th @ 5:15; Jr/Sr High meet @ 7:00.
