Kari Kaufman drove up early on Saturday morning with a large pot of chili that Vicki had made. Kari was an especially enthusiastic course marshal, loudly encouraging all the kids as she ensured that they took the right direction. John, also a course marshal, was impressed by how many children did the full 5 kilometer course! Chris Johnson was there with Aleksia, Gage and Heath. The kids excitedly told us that, after completing the 2.5km course, they did the 1km loop also! As they ski up the last hill, participants are welcomed by the peal of cowbells and receive a medal and a Norwegian flag. Bev Moe is always there at the finish line! We heard tell that over 200 hot dogs were prepared but there were none left by the time we got to eat. Fortunately, there was plenty of chili, soup, cheese, fruit and cookies so no-one left hungry! THIS and THAT

Meeting Reminders for our March and April meetings

Vær så god…

SUNSHINE

Please keep Nicky Johnson in your thoughts as she recovers from heart surgery and continues to improve daily.

Please send a note to Peggy Kvasagar as she recently had foot surgery!

FINANCIAL MOMENTHave you read the Sons of Norway Brochure titled, “Making a Difference?” If not pick one up at your next lodge meeting. “Making a difference“highlights the three core areas of Sons of Norway: Fraternal, Financial and Foundation.

For the purpose of this article let’s focus on Financial.

Highlights from the brochure: “In addition to being a fraternal organization Sons of Norway is a $360 million dollar life Insurance company that is dedicated to protecting the financial future of its members.” Also, “Sons of Norway’s Insurance operations play a significant role in supporting our fraternal endeavors by providing more than $1 million dollars in funding annually from its Financial and Insurance operations to support items such as the Viking Magazine and Lodge Programming.

Take advantage of being a Sons of Norway member and utilize the Financial Services of Sons of Norway. Examples of just a few ways I have helped our members: 1) Set-up certificates to financially protect families; to leave members an inheritance; or to leave money to the Sons of Norway Foundation. 2) Move CD monies or roll retirement accounts to SofN for safety and security. 3) Set up Pre-Funded Funeral plans formembers. 4) Assist in Estate Planning. 5) Re-position “Lazy Money” that isn’t doing much or make it work for our members.

Every member should own a Sons of Norway Insurance or Financial product: Make this the year to add one to your portfolio to help yourself and support Sons of Norway

With Warm Regards,

Kendall Kjerstad

SKI FOR LIGHT

Bonnie O’Day, Ski For Light’s Liaison, wrote the following, “On behalf of Ski For Light, I would liketo thank SON for offering first-rate support at DIAon Feb 9th and 16th. SON Volunteers really went out of your way to make sure everyone had a positive experience at the airport. I heard from a long-time Ski For Light participant that her experience…was the smoothest in her many years at SFL. You all really went all out by including muf fins and water…and the experiencemeeting the bus on Feb 16 also went flawlessly. I heard that the SON Volunteers really stepped up, even taking (a VIP) directly to the train station. It was a dif ficult week in many ways. …

7

Page 8: MARCH 2020 VOL 88 NUMBER 3 2020 Posten.pdf · getting her training in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Kristen’s interests include singing, drawing, painting, hiking, horses, and hardangersom

You guys did a fabulous job and I will contact you again next year for Ski for Light on Jan 24 – 31, 2021.”

I, too, want to thank the 23 Volunteers who assisted the 95 Ski For Light folks with the 36 Flights going in/out on 11 different Airlines andgave out 130 bottles of water , 85 muf fins and 2dozen oranges! Volunteers also assisted with escorting VIP’s to restaurants, helping with several Service Dogs, and the handling of hundreds of large bags and skis. Every Volunteer was SO needed and is SO appreciated . I would like to shout out a special “thank you” to Marianne Workman-Nesse for keeping her cool during a “doggy episode” whose owner was extremely complimentary in his praise for Marianne. I would also like to let everyone know of the extra effort and compassion that Peggy Kvasager and Kris Millard showed the VIP who was extremely distressed about getting to the Amtrak station – Peggy and Kris drove through the Denver traf fic to “hand-deliver” him to the Amtrak station, and itmade a huge impact on him and the Ski For Light folks.

Can YOU imagine being BLIND and doing all of this at DIA by yourself??!! I want to extend a very warm invitation to any and ALL Lodge members to put Jan. 24 and 31st, 2021, on your calendars to volunteer for this worthy event. There will be approximately 300 VIPs in 2021, sowe need many, many more volunteers .PLEASE JOIN US!! “

TUSEN TAKK JOANN

It is with gratitude that we salute JoAnn Kison with a sincere Tusen Takk f or assuring that bothdays assisting Ski For Light were such a success. Delegates to the 2020 ConventionIt is time to select your lodge convention delegates. All Lodge Secretaries were sent their allowed numbers of delegates. The election of delegates is found in Chapter 7 of the Charter and Constitution, section 4.7, page 45 of the 2018-2020 edition. When you elect delegates think of members who will represent you at the district meeting. Choose delegates who will make sound decisions on behalf of your lodge and the District Lodge. Members who are aware of the Sons of Norway Charter and Constitution. In addition you may want to consider members who actively participate in your lodge in leadership and volunteer positions. Those are the people who are in the know. Convention maybe a fun time, but it is business first and foremost. The decisions, discussions and interactions plot the future of Sons of Norway. Please send delegates. It is important for all lodges to participate.

Fraternally,
