ANNIVERSARY

MARCH 2020UPDATED EDITION

Page 2: MARCH 2020 UPDATED EDITION WALKING HOLIDAYS · In 2020 we are returning to some our favourite walking destinations and including exciting new journeys. In Europe, we return to Greece,

“Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.” – John Muir

John Muir was known as the father of national parks and was one of the inspirations for our inaugural five week tour to the USA and Canada in 1975. Exploring the wonders of national parks, relaxing in the peace of nature, enjoying the companionship of others, along with good food and accommodation, has been our focus ever since. In 2020, interNATIONAL PARKtours is celebrating our 45th birthday and we feel that national parks and connection to nature are more important than ever. As John Muir says, “the mountains are calling and I must go!”

WHERE TO IN 2020?In 2020 we are returning to some our favourite walking destinations and including exciting new journeys. In Europe, we return to Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, Croatia and Slovenia while new destinations include Northern England. In Australia, we have revamped our Tasmanian and Short Break journeys while offering a new journey to the Kimberleys. In the Asia Pacific region, we return to the Cook Islands and have a brand new tour to Hokkaido.

WHY TRAVEL WITH US?At interNATIONAL PARKtours, our mission is to connect, celebrate and inspire people in the wild places of the world. We offer small group tours with a focus on half and full day walks in national parks and wilderness areas, places that may otherwise be inaccessible to the independent traveller. There is time to meet locals, taste seasonal food and learn about the history and culture

of each destination visited. Regular feedback from our guests list the key reasons they return to travel with us. It is the variety of destinations on offer, the local people we meet, the great affinity of the groups and our tour leaders who guide the journeys. We also believe the camaraderie, security and safety of travelling with a small group is why guests choose to come with us to destinations near and far. We are proud to offer these sustainable and responsible journeys, that connect with local people and contribute to the communities we visit.

OUR STAFF & TOUR LEADERSOur Beechmont office staff provides personal service at every stage of your travels and for more information about our tour leaders, see the inside back cover. Whether you are looking for a short Aussie getaway, or an extended journey to immerse yourself in an exotic location, we look forward to welcoming you into the interNATIONAL PARKtours family and exploring this beautiful world together.

Happy travels

Tours to Suit Your FitnessWhen you are assessing your ability to participate, age is not necessarily as important as your fitness and recent walking experience. Please read the tour walk rating and the day-by-day walking descriptions in the itinerary to determine if the tour is suitable for your fitness. If you have any queries, we are happy to put you in touch with either the tour coordinator or tour leader to discuss your fitness requirements in more detail.

Tour NumbersWe specialise in small group travel with a tour size normally between 8 to 18 guests. This means we have access to more boutique hotels, transport and walks. Please refer to the individual itinerary for details on the minimum group size for a particular tour. All tours need a minimum number of participants to operate at the price listed in the itinerary.

Tour Style & ItinerariesWe want you to be active yet comfortable while exploring this beautiful planet. While day walks are our main mode of exploration, most tours include a focus on regional food, locally owned accommodation and meeting the local people to experience their history and culture. Our itineraries include the day-by-day activities, walk descriptions and meal inclusions. You can download itineraries from our website, request via email [email protected] or phone 1300 197 201.

We Keep in TouchAfter acknowledging receipt of your booking form and deposit, we will be in touch when your tour has reached its minimum group size. A comprehensive information pack will then be sent to you, including a Tour A-Z, suggested packing list, medical questionnaire, balance of payment invoice and pre/post accommodation options. The final mailing is sent out approximately three weeks before departure and includes final tour documents, meeting points, and any final travel information.

CELEBRATING 45 YEARS...We would like to thank all our wonderful guests, tour leaders and office staff for the last 45 years! Thanks for being part of the interNATIONAL PARKtours family and especially thanks to Tony & Connie Groom for starting this journey back in 1975! If you have travelled with us in the past, we hope you have collected some great memories in the national parks of the world. We are looking forward to many more adventures in the future. Here are just a few photos from across the years….

ANNIVERSARY

Page 14: MARCH 2020 UPDATED EDITION WALKING HOLIDAYS · In 2020 we are returning to some our favourite walking destinations and including exciting new journeys. In Europe, we return to Greece,

Introducing interNATIONAL PARKtours’ leadersThe many comments we receive confirm the belief that our leaders are special people. They are dedicated to ensuring you have genuine experiences of each destination plus a relaxed and memorable walking holiday. interNATIONALPARKtours leaders’ are from many nations and all walks of life, with a common love of exploring and enjoying the outdoors. We choose our tour leaders for their diverse knowledge, people skills and ability to weave the day to day activities into a great flow. Their task is to look after all the details of travel, leaving you free to walk, relax and enjoy. They are there to support you but they may stretch your comfort levels occasionally and get you to places you never imagined possible!

Our tour leaders draw on regional specialists within the destinations we travel and work with local guides on many occasions. These local guides enhance the tour with their knowledge of cities, towns and walking experience.

They have a deep understanding of the local culture, nature and best places to eat and relax! No amount of guidebooks or google searches will beat tour leaders and guides with their knowledge and know-how.

Travel writer Kate Humble explains this well…

“perhaps what makes a good guide is also what makes a good friend; someone whose company you enjoy, who can surprise and delight you, whose advice and comfort you can seek, but who also knows when to leave you in peace.”

And from one of our guests...

The ability of interNATIONAL PARKtours to find knowledgeable, friendly, interesting tour leaders is one of your great strengths. We look forward to planning our next walk soon.
