Social Recaps, Ski Stories & Photo Gallery… DATRIPPERS RECAP The daytrippers group saw the movie “Downhill” with Julia Louis Dreyfus and Will

Farrell, followed by lunch at Legends Grill and Bar. Some members gave the movie a thumbs up and

some gave it a thumbs down. However, we all enjoyed the Alpine skiing scenes.

SWANK NIGHT X RECAP – 11+ erstwhile Piccadillians came out

for Swank Night X – the tenth outing of swankiness. We

enjoyed the band and the remodeling immensely, taking over

the place with our awesomeness. Thank you David & Susan

for arranging such a fun affair!

PSC Hockey Game Recap - The Feb 20th meeting theme

was dressing to show support for the Chicago

Blackhawks. PSC debuted the game of Air Ball Hockey

between the Bandanas (captain Sandi, teammates Kevin,

and Joseph) vs the Headbands (captain Dean, teammates

Johnny O, and Rod) the game was officiated by Referee

Wally Dudek. Air Ball Hockey is played by moving a ping

pong ball across the table into the goal by blowing

through a straw. After the official 5-minute period ended

the score was 0-0, so we went into sudden death

overtime with each teammate taking a shot on goal. We

still had a 0-0 tied score so the winner was determined

by a coin toss with team PSC Bandanas winning.

Game Night at Kevin’s Recap – a ton of Piccadillians showed for a very

fun night of gaming, frivolity and more. From Jenga, Backgammon,

Taboo, and Tip It, to Name that Face and a very rauckous, noisy Pit,

everyone got into the game! Kevin served his famous chili, and unique

brownies which only enhanced the

event. The fun began at 4pm and

finally, being the non stop, amazing

host he is, we wore him out around

o’dark thirty. Thanks again Kevin for a

really great time!

BIG SKY RECAP - On Saturday Jan 18th, 31 Piccadillians met at O’Hare to start our wonderful week in

Big Sky, Montana. Our flight was delayed by 1 1/2 hours due to the snow and ice storm which moved

into our area on Friday and continued until midday Saturday. Thank goodness we were on a non-stop

flight to Bozeman! Four more people met us at the Bozeman

airport to fill out the trip to 35. We should have been 37 but Pat

R. had to cancel at the last minute due to an illness, and Dawn C.

couldn’t get to Chicago before the flight left due to having to

travel through the same snow and ice storm. She was able to fly

out to Bozeman on Sunday to join us. I’m sorry Pat but you

missed a great trip! Big Sky greeted us with gorgeous weather

and sunny skies.

Big Sky is investing heavily in new lifts

with the new Ramcharger 8 open this

year and the Swift Current being

replaced next season (these are the two main lifts in the base area).

Unfortunately no one has heard of when or if the Six Shooter lift on the

Moonlight Basin side will be replaced - it is the longest, coldest, and windiest

lift on the mountain! Lift lines were manageable on Sunday and Monday -

considering that these days were the MLK Holiday weekend, the lift lines were

tiny compared to most other ski resorts. The rest of the days we were hard

pressed to find a significant lift line anywhere.

On Sunday Dave B. who is a Piccadillian from years back and now lives in, and

is an instructor at, Big Sky was kind enough to give us a tour of the ski resort,

leading us all over the mountain with Barb A. and sharing the knowledge only a local would have.

Big Sky Recap Continued…

Monday and Tuesday offered up similar beautiful weather and great skiing. Dawn C. - a never-ever

skier - took her first lesson (now that she actually got to the resort) and fell in love with the sport!

People spread out all over the mountain and enjoyed the good conditions. Tuesday night we had the

pinning party at Buck’s T-4. We pinned 6 new members - including our newest skier Dawn C. Everyone

raved about the food, although not everyone was as pleased with our luxury transportation - a yellow

school bus which was chartered by Buck’s for us.

On Wednesday most of us went to Yellowstone for a snow coach tour to

Old Faithful, with stops along the way to see bison, swans, a waterfall, and

various thermal areas. The snow coaches are small yellow buses on some

big-a**s tires. See the picture with Sandi as a yardstick”. There were also

some coaches with the old track drive.

As we were pulling into a restroom stop, Sandi S loudly proclaimed “Don’t

allow the sandwiches to die”, which had many of us perplexed. Then we

remembered seeing a sign posted on the side of the building stating

“Please do not allow snowmachines to idle”! The rest of the group went

skiing enjoying a big snowstorm and fresh powder. (The weather was clear at Yellowstone).

On Thursday we endured a day of freezing rain and mist. Most of us had ice freezing on our goggles

faster than we could wipe them clear resulting in not being able to

see anything as we were trying to ski. On Thursday night Dawn C.

and I climbed into a snowcat (some people rode on top of it!) to

go up to the Montana Dinner Yurt for a wonderful dinner and

sledding followed by a snowcat ride back down to the base. Friday

was another beautiful day to finish off the week, with some people

enjoying their first “tree run” on the green Lois Lane run. Mary K.

went off the side of a groomed run into some deep powder where,

as she stated it, she “was swimming in powder” trying to get back

to a groomed area.

Page 10: March 2020 Newsletter...*Thurs, March 5 - PSC Meeting, Emmett’s, 7:30pm ELECTION NIGHT *Fri, March 8 – Fish Fry – Fridays 3/8 – 4/19, Knights of Columbus in Westmont *Wed,

On Friday evening we had a “use up the leftovers” apres ski in the atrium of the Huntley Lodge. The

shot ski was in attendance and the excess alcohol was consumed, to excess :) Unfortunately, we did

have one injury on the trip. Dawn C. suffered a fracture to the tibial plateau with partial tears to the ACL

and MCL. She had no

idea it was this

serious until she

returned and after

having an MRI and CT

scan. Luckily she

doesn’t require

surgery, and she is

anxious to get back

on skis again. Julian

CUQEFANMAM© (nee Park City Trip, AKA “Where’s Sean?!?”) A stream of consciousness regurgitation of events

and musings: 15 Intrepid Piccadillian’s jetted off to

Central Utah to engage in Qana adventures (Inuit

for falling snow). But wait, weren’t there supposed

to be 16? Unfortunately, Jim O had to drop off at

the last minute. But with the addition Lauren, Ted’s

daughter, we were back to 16! However, most of

the week, we lost Sean, waited for Sean, found

Page 11: March 2020 Newsletter...*Thurs, March 5 - PSC Meeting, Emmett’s, 7:30pm ELECTION NIGHT *Fri, March 8 – Fish Fry – Fridays 3/8 – 4/19, Knights of Columbus in Westmont *Wed,

Sean and asked: Where’s Sean!?! Dawn drove the bus into the porta

potty, wait, that’s the other Dawn, wait that’s a different trip.

Friday, we got settled into the fabulous Park City Peaks Hotel and had a

half day to play, discover downtown Park City, shop for and found

unique undergarments (see right), rent skies and get used to the city

bus vs shuttle bus. Dinner on your own. David lost his cash-filled wallet

at the restaurant, but a good Samaritan turned it into the hotel lobby

desk. We loved our accommodations

and the staff at Park City Peaks. They had Piccadilly-sized hot

tubs, indoor AND outdoor, where we made “people soup” every

afternoon. Sandy L led us in the “rolling in the snow and jumping

back into the hot tub” game (She, Lori, Mike, Ted, and Lauren

convinced strangers to do it too). Every afternoon from 4-6pm

they had hot cocoa and cookies. David made sure we all took

advantage of that, and even delivered them to the hot tub for us.

Saturday & Sunday we skied Park City and had amazing snow.

Après Ski day 1 was at Pig Pen, where we were squished in like

sardines, but the place was hoppin! Day 2 was supposed to be at

the Pig Pen again, but Lynn and Tom called an audible and changed the location to the Lodge,

with a second story balcony hangout. Lynn, Sandy & Kathy were dangling their beers over the

ledge which irritated Tom. Dennis apparently never got the message about the location change

and ended up back at Pig Pen, where he

waited an hour for us to show. His reward was

meeting six 20-year-old Texan hotties who

bought him drinks. He still complained about

it, but we think he got the better end of that

deal.

We had a great slush fund which Tripleader

Mike chose to hand $$ to each person to cover

their dinners etc. Dawn came up with party

games at the welcome gathering where we

learned interesting factoids about each other…. Guess who did this: was Backstage with the

Grateful Dead, 3 times!; had a ½-hour weekly TV show on Cable; was given permission by

Cherokee elders to perform the ritual of Ata-Tue-Ata-Sahaydee; Jr. Pole Vault Champ of

Chicago; almost flunked high school; was given last rights, but survived (allegedly); used to do

drugs in the 70s, but now doesn’t care what the temperature is….. You figure it out.

Page 12: March 2020 Newsletter...*Thurs, March 5 - PSC Meeting, Emmett’s, 7:30pm ELECTION NIGHT *Fri, March 8 – Fish Fry – Fridays 3/8 – 4/19, Knights of Columbus in Westmont *Wed,

Day 3 we skied Deer Valley – or as Sean kept calling it, Beaver Valley

– Conditions were a little icy, and one chairlift closed, blocking our

only way out. Sean, Mike, Dawn and Ted had to get towed out via

snowmobile (aka Tommy Bartlett Water Show). Princess Dawn, rode

on the snowmobile, and took video. We checked out Stein Erickson

Lodge – they let in the dirty Irish – and had a beverage, where a

young, rich beauty, joined us near the fire for an interesting display

of décolletage. Kathy S. really wanted to recreate a 1940’s photo at

Deer Valley which involved Dawn, a sports bra and hard-boiled

eggs!? You ask her about it!

On our last ski-day we skied Canyons which had amazing snow. Ted,

Mike & Dawn got stuck on a chairlift for 15 minutes and got free

drink coupons. While we waited, Ted named some new runs on the

hill: Widow Maker, Impaler, Spleen Separator and Bone Crusher.

We welcomed and “wiggled” Jim & Diana Harmon and Kevin (“The

Kid”) Meiner into the club with our traditional newbies pinning

ceremony. The Last night we hosted our “Nail Soup” party where we

played reindeer games with candy hearts and got to know each

other. Here we broke out the

Shotski and filled it with

Terry’s Grand Marnier and

random leftovers. We experienced the four stages of

Shot Ski: exhilaration, surprise, horror and just plain

numb.

We had no significant injuries, however Dawn skied

Scotts Bowl sans equipment, and slid down headfirst –

twice. Lori G ditched her painful ski boots and tried

show shoeing and loved it.

Kevin helped us capture what we think is the

best group photo ever. See for yourself.

Thank you to all who willingly ventured forth

on this crazy, amazing Piccadilly Qana

Excursion, you made our jobs easy!

Until next time– Mike (and Dawn) Roche
