LET’S MAKE THIS YEAR DIFFERENT!
It seems like I just finished the February news-
leer arcle and it’s already March. Last year at this
me we were buried in snow and today I saw on Face
book that GWRRA member’s are not only riding, they
are already vising Trek locaons. That’s kind of awe-
some. More than a year ago Naonal asked the dis-
tricts to iniate some district rides. They didn’t have
to take in the enre district but the rides needed to
be available for the enre district. Our Trek Ohio has
fulfilled that requirement. Thanks, Michigan. (For
those of you who don’t know it, we stole the idea
from Michigan.) Parcipaon in the Trek program
was prey good last year and out of 150 booklets
printed, I only had 17 le3.
Parcipaon in any GWRRA program, event,
rally or training class is of course enrely up to you.
There are no minimum requirements for parcipa-
on. So many other groups, clubs, organizaons say
that you have to aend X number of meengs, parc-
ipate in X number of events etc. Gee, that’s one thing
we don’t like about other organizaons and it’s one
thing that can make a potenal new member hesitant
about joining us. They are waing for the news that
so many meengs are mandatory, that aending ral-
lies is mandatory. Please assure new members that
we want them to parcipate and to have fun, but also
let them know that no one can aend everything and
it’s not mandatory to aend anything.
That being said, parcipaon is important.
Without support from the members at the rallies, the
officers meengs, the secon picnics, the Chapter
fund raisers, the gatherings, events start to disappear.
Buckeye Time out in September is gone, instead of 5
secon picnics, there will only be 2, one for the east
on June 20th
and one for the west on August 8th
.
There will be one less Chapter fundraiser in the
NorthCentral secon this year due to a lack of parci-
paon. In the past we have had to cancel riding clas-
ses and even Medic First Aid classes due to a lack of
parcipaon. Let’s make this year different. Let’s
make this year the year that all acvies were so well
aended that we were scrambling to get everyone a
seat that we were running out of things. How can we
make this happen? We make it happen by encourag-
ing our members to aend different events and acvi-
es and by aending all events that we can possible
make. Cabin Fever was a decent start; we had about
15 more aendees than last year and a lot more par-
cipaon in the acvies than in the past.
Let’s go for it folks! Let’s go do things!

What a fun me members had at Cabin Fever. Yes,
it snowed but it was sll a fun me with friends. That is
what makes it so much fun with members is the friendship
and memories coming and going from different events. I
have posted a lot of pictures on the district website and I
see Karen had some in last month newsleer for the dis-
trict.
Congratulaons to Chapter P for winning the 4th
quarter newsleer and district newsleer award for 2019,
and Chapter Y for the 4th quarter website for the north
central secon. Congratulaons to Chapter B for winning
the 2019 Chapter of the Year. Chapters should go ask
them how easy it was to go for it and should try it next
year. It was less than 15 points between them and second
place. If you look at the points, 15 is not too much to
come up with considering they had that much in points
from the traveling plaque. Oh, on the subject, members
should encourage their chapters to have fun and go ride
and capture the plaque. The chapter could get $50 at the
end of the year if they are drawn for geJng the plaque.
As I am wring this a new chapter from over a year ago has
captured it from Chapter B. As I am wring this, there is
plans on going to capture the plaque again. You will have
to go look on the website to see who has it because it
might change before this is published.
We are looking forward in seeing other members
in the future at chapter events. Lynn and I have been plan-
ning on what events that we are going to be vising this
year and it is going to be a busy one again. We are looking
forward in the traveling and hoping it is nice enough to
ride the bike to all the events. We are trying to lock down
a place to have the seconal picnic but have not found one
in the center of the east side of Ohio yet. As soon as we
get a place, there will be a flyer and an email out with the
informaon.
Thank you, Robert Williams for puJng in a word
last month in his newsleer on how the district site is look-
ing. I am working hard to improve it whenever an idea
comes to me. I sll have a couple more things that I am
working on and hoping to have done before officer
meeng or Buckeye Rally. Be safe and get those bikes
ready to ride spring is coming quickly.
Update:
Chapter Y has changed their me for their aucon on
7th. It was at 4 and than changed to 3 the new flyer is on
the website. They are also changing the day and me on
their gathering starng in April. It is moving to the 2nd
Tuesday or the month at 6 pm and will be at the same
place.

A big shout out and congratulaons
to Dave and Sally Slonaker from Chapter Y for be-
coming Ohio District 2020 Couple of the Year, and
Frank Snyder from Chapter B the new and first
Ohio District 2020 Individual of the Year.
I hope that everyone had a good me at
Cabin Fever this year. If you have never been, you
should plan on going next year. The theme for
next year is Game Shows, so start puJng you
thinking caps on to come up with a costume.
The next big thing going on is Buckeye Ral-
ly the theme is Celebraon of Freedom. So plan
on coming out and having a great me. If you will
be camping get out your decoraons for cele-
brang our freedom. I would like to have the
2020 chapter couple or if they are not able to
have the chapter individual of the year carry in
the chapter flag. My goal this year is to have eve-
ry chapter flag carried in by someone from the
chapter. I will be sending out emails end of May
beginning of June to see who from your chapter
would be able to carry in the flag.
More info on Buckeye Rally will be coming
out in the next couple of months and it will be on
the District web site.
All chapters should have honored their
chapter couple and individual. Please also honor
them by puJng their name on your chapter web
site and in your newsleers.

News from the North East
March is here which means riding season has
almost arrived and with riding season comes FUNd-
raisning season. The Northeast secon starts its
Fundraising season out with Chapter G-2’s Chili Cook-
off. This event will be March 21st starng at 5pm unl
8pm at the Mantua Civic Center in Mantua. Cost is
$8.00 and all the chili you can eat or unl they run
out. Come and join the fun and bring a pot of chili,
who knows you just might win a prize. An aucon will
follow the chili cook off so be prepared to bid for
some great items.
Chapter T’s SpagheJ Dinner will be on April
21st starng at 4:30 at the Randolph Community Cen-
ter in Randolph. Cost is $8.00 for a plate of spagheJ
& meat balls, salad, bread, and drink. Desserts are
sold separately. There will be a silent aucon follow-
ing dinner. This is always a great me. Chapter I-2 will
have their annual Corn Roast on August 9th starng at
2pm, at the American Legion Post #751 in Southing-
ton, OH. Cost is $8.00 for hot dog, chips, drink and all
the corn you can eat. I’m hoping that there will be
another corn eang contest this year. We’ve had a lot
of fun with those the last couple of years. Chapter M
will again host Bike Night at the Canfield Fair on Sep-
tember 4th
starng at 3pm. M will need help with
parking bikes, judging bikes and at registraon. No
inial cost to sign up to help out and in the past the
fair board has been kind enough to give us ckets for
the fair for those who work bike night. Chapter V-2
will close the Northeast secon fund raisers on Sep-
tember 27rd
with their Rigatoni Dinner at Sargis Hall in
Wintersville. Cost is $8.00 for a plate of rigatoni, sal-
ad, and dessert. Drinks are sold separately.
An aucon will follow. Here’s hoping we see all of
you at all of the fund raisers.
When we aend our fellow chapter fund rais-
ers and support them in their endeavors we ensure
that they will support ours. There are lots of other
fund raisers to aend in other secons, so check out
the schedules for any chapter close to you or even if
you want to head out for a ride, another chapters
gathering, event, fund raiser could be a great desna-
on. Let’s make 2020 the year of parcipaon for
aending events and supporng our fellow chapters.
Spring Officers meeng will be on April 25th at
the Obetz Community Center in Obetz, OH. The
meeng will start promptly at 9am. We hope to see
all of the Northeast secon and our two North Central
chapters in aendance at this meeng. LOGO’s for
2021 Cabin Fever will be voted on so please bring
your best LOGO for Cabin Fever and remember the
theme is Game Shows. Have fun with this and good
luck.

Where did the month of February go?
After Cabin Fever we enjoyed Indiana’s Ren-dezvous. The first event we attended at the Rendezvous was the tour of Indiana Universi-ty Sports Facilities in Bloomington. The first building we toured was the Simon Skjodt As-sembly Hall. This is where basketball games are played. We got to see the rooms and seats where the Elite 76 Club see the games. Beside that is the Presidential Suite. After that tour we went over to Cook Hall which is the
history of the men’s and women’s basketball programs. The final visit was the football sta-dium. The facilities below the stadium are phenomenal. The workout room is the second largest in the United States. Texas is the only state with a larger facility. After returning to the Fourwinds Marina we enjoyed the rest of Rendezvous. They had many activities that included seminars, vendors, escape room, euchre and of course their Friday night pizza bar and Saturday night taco bar. It was fun meeting other Ohio couples there which in-cluded Roger & Penny Hurley, Robert G. & Angela Williams, and Chuck & Melanie Geg-gie. Hats off to Rick & Deb Warmels and the Indiana team for a fantastic event. We also spent the month visiting other chapters and watching the Ohio traveling plaque move around. On Sunday February 16th chapter F from Fairborn traveled to Mansfield to obtain the plaque from chapter B. On Saturday February 22nd chapter S from Tiffin traveled to Fairborn to retrieve the
plaque from chapter F. The plaque didn’t stay long with chapter S because chapter T2 from Dayton obtained the plaque on Monday
February 24th. By the time this article is in print the plaque could be at another chapter. Chapter T2 meets the first Tuesday of the month at the United Christian Church in Clay-ton. It is bringing back the fun of other chap-ters visiting each other. The first weekend in March will find us at the Michigan Wingless event in Chelsea, Michigan. We look forward to this event also. At the end of the month we will be traveling to Louisiana for their district rally. We hope to have warm and dry weather.
Don’t forget the Spring Officer’s meeting is Saturday April 18, 2020 in Obetz. See you down the road.

On Sunday February 16 Chapter F captured the
Ohio traveling plaque at Chapter B in Mansfield
Ohio. There was nine members from Chapter F
there to capture the Plaque. It was fun to be with
the Chapter B members (according to Frank
Snyder).
AND THEN >>> Chapter T2 captured the traveling Plaque. Eleven
chapter members Traveled to Chapter S for the
Traveling Plaque. Everyone had a great
time. The next gathering for chapter T2 is Tues-
day March 3rd at 7 p.m. at the United Christian
Church. It is located at 8611 Hoke Road Clayton,
Ohio. Many times members meet at Marion’s
Piazza on 404 West National Road Englewood at

Information for all UI/UTREP Instructors
The following informaon has been passed on to
me from the GWRRA University Assistant Kathleen Heibel
during the February call.
They are requesng that all instructors use the
term “Classes” instead of seminars/modules when talking
to members and/or in publicaons such as flyers/
newsleers.
If you want to present a Horizon/ITCP class you
will need two (2) instructors as they are all day classes.
Instructors please inform any class aendees to
please put their member # when they sign in on the U.3.
If they are a guest please write guest on the U.3. Guests
are welcomed and encouraged as they are possible NEW
members!
At the end of each class please have them go to
the GWRRA University web site (gwrradot.com/
university-files/) under Forms/Guides and complete the
very simple Class Feedback form and then hit submit. We
are using this as a way to keep our classes current and
maybe write new ones.
**** UTREP’s who are current as RCI’s (Rider Course In-
structor’s) are able to teach the 7 “Seminars” that are
under the “Ride” category on the class list.****
If any instructor ever has any quesons, please
send me an email and I will answer or get the answer for
you.
For all those instructors out there who have
birthdays this month I wish you a Very Happy Birthday!!
WING DING 42 WILL BE IN SPRINGFIELD, MO
ON JUNE 30-JULY 4, 2020.

Greengs to all! The winter doldrums will
be over soon & we may get some days that will
be warm enough & dry enough to coax our trusty
steeds out of their corners in the garage.
These early days of Spring can be especially haz-
ardous for motorcyclists for several reasons.
There can be sneaky slick secons in shaded are-
as. Secons of road can be filled with rough
patches, potholes etc and road crews will be out
trying to fix these issues, but these things take
me.
While you’re out there dodging tank traps, be al-
so mindful that the motoring public is dodging the
same hazards at the same me. As if they weren’t
distracted enough, they have also had several
months to forget that they are sharing the roads
with bicyclists & motorcyclists.
March and April are not too early to begin puJng
out your yard signs and “Watch Out for Motorcy-
cles” banners. I have an ample supply of these
and will be bringing them to the Spring Officers
Meeng on April 18. I also have a stockpile of tri-
fold brochures and magnec bumper sckers that
are yours for the asking.
If you want them sooner, just drop me an email at
[email protected] and we’ll arrange to
get them to you. I can also give you a contact at
the Ohio Department of Public Safety (for banner,
yard signs etc) and at GWRRA Home Office (for tri
-fold brochures) if you prefer.
I encourage every chapter to have something
planned for GWRRA Naonal Motorist Awareness
Day on the second Saturday of May (May 9, 2020)
or at least some Motorist Awareness acvity in
May. The Ohio District webpage has links to many
Motorist Awareness resources at hps://

Be safe out there!

The website for the Ohio District is up and
running and looking fine. As schedules, events and
gathering informaon changes, be sure to let Web-

quickly to the website. Send flyers, announcements,
info on new members (with permission) , members
lost, awards, etc. And remember to let us all know

Treasury Notes Karen Ballou
Thanks to all Chapters who have turned in
their annual financial report. I sll have a few to
receive but I expect those shortly.
Most were completed correctly and some
had minor issues. Thank you for you work on
them. I will be in contact with Chapters that may
need to make any correcons.
For 2019 I did not require the Bank Signa-
ture form compleon or a copy of the Bank Signa-
ture card. For 2020, that is going to be a require-
ment. In preparing for this, please be sure that the
signatures on file with the bank are the current CD,
current Treasurer and current ADD or DD. No oth-
er officers are to be on the checking account, espe-
cially former officers. I realize this may be a pain
for some, but if you get the copy of the signature
page when it is completed at the bank, it should be
simple. Just keep this copy is a safe place since it
may contain sensive informaon.
Quick security note for 2020:
When you sign a document or check, do
you use 12/1/17 . Of course. But this year, what
do you see…...12/12/20 . Is that 12/12/2020 or
12/12/2018. The year digits can be easily added to
to change the date of a document.
Be sure to use the full four-digit year for 2020. A
lile security feature that you will not have to wor-
ry about again for
many years to come.
