HAGERMAN FIRE DISTRICT By Tim Peterson, Fire Chief

According to the calendar we are coming into the final weeks of winter. Spring weather will be here soon, we hope. Yard work and general property clean up will be in full swing, this means some of you will want to get some debris piles burned. Please check your weather forecast prior to starting your burn, the spring wind will switch directions several times during the day. Have a good line around your burn area, water on hand if possible, plenty of help to handle the operation, and please give us a call to notify the department of the burn (208-837-4552).

The EMS/QRU have taken the training on the new AED and it is now in service on the response vehicle. The Fire Division will be preparing for the upcoming Wildland fire season in the next couple of months with refresher classes, qualification tests, and annual meetings with our state, fed-eral, and local cooperators.

On March 28th

from 9am to 11am we will be at Bullets ’N Brew with local Law En-forcement for the “Coffee with a Cop” event. Please come by to meet your local responders.

We will be doing the EMS standby at the St. Patricks’ Day Fun Run at the Malad Gorge State Park on March 14

th, this year

will mark the 30th

anniversary of this great event.

The District will be on the ballot on May 19

th, the district is proposing a 2 year tem-

porary override levy. The levy would be for an additional $125,000 for each of the two years.

The estimated average annual cost to the taxpayer or the proposed levy would be $70.00 per one hundred thousand of tax-able assessed value, per year, based on current conditions.

February has been sunny and a lot of us have

been outdoors. It also reminds us that it's time

to get ready for spring cleaning. The city coun-

cil will be working on a date for the clean-up

day which is usually done around arbor day, so

be prepared.

The J team (Justin, Jordan and Josh) have con-

tinued to fill potholes and cracks, as well as

jump in and do a little remodel job on City Hall.

If you have any potholes you're concerned

about give us a call at City Hall, 208-837-6636.

Please pay attention to the speed limits. The

new speed limit signs have given us data on

how the traffic is flowing into town and

when the speed limits are violated. Officer

Cornette has been doing a good job on slowing

the traffic down as it comes into town.

Idaho power has plans to install two new fluo-

rescent lights this year and 48 more in 2021.

Thank you Idaho power.

Dogs dogs dogs. We all love our dogs but we

don't always love others dogs. Let's keep con-

trol of our dogs. The city is working on updat-

ing the codes to bring more clarity and en-

forceability to the dog codes.

South Central Community Action Partnership

(SCCAP) is now offering a Self-Help Program in

the Hagerman area. This program is a group

method build where 4-10 families come to-

gether under the guidance of a Construction

Supervisor to build their own homes. Famillies

provide 65% of the labor themselves by com-

mitting 35 hours a week with friend and family

volunteers. By putting in the “sweat equity”

the family does not have to come up with a

down payment and moves into their new

homes with an instant equity of generally

$20,000 to $25,000. Participants must meet

income guidelines, be a legal US resident and

have fairly good credit.

Please pick up an application at City Hall.
