I want to touch on some key objectives I have in 2020 as they relate to House and Grounds and a special upcoming event:Mark your calendars folks March 28 will be the first TOGA PARTY. We will commence at SSC at 1100 for TOGA TOGA! So, please ensure you are dressed in your garb. We will have a large crowd, so you do NOT want to miss this one folks. Expect fun music during the day as we prepare for the next step of the “Day.” My suggestion is to watch Animal House to ensure your TOGA dance moves are in order. Let’s have a good showing as there will be people who have never been to SSC, and the goal is to demonstrate why they should join. Next, at 1600, (4pm) we will meet at The Barrel House to watch Animal House with our group. TOGAS are highly suggested… this should be a blast. Special thanks to Barrel House for providing a location, as well as having their bar open that day during the movie. • Following Animal House, we will walk over to Daly’s to begin the TOGA Pub Crawl in downtown Sandusky. Thanks to Daly’s for supporting the first stop of the pub crawl.

Let everyone know about the event… as I would like this to be a great party for SSC, as well as getting our club out there as a great place to meet folks, learn to sail, splash a beverage and have fun. I am expecting a huge crowd during the day, and a fun group of folks on the pub crawl. Stay tuned.. more information forthcoming around specific stops during the pub crawl and other updates.Spring Workday - Just a reminder to everyone, please mark your calendar for the general meeting and Spring Workday, April 25. This is an important day to ensure we begin on the right foot. For those of you who have never attended, it truly is fun, and there is much laughter. Please mark the date, as we need as many hands as possible to ensure our 2020 is fabulous.Basic needs around the club - As always, every club needs some elbow grease to keep things “up to snuff.” I would ask that if you see something that needs fixed, and it is not a job that requires a contractor, fix it. If something is needed to fix it, then feel free to purchase the replacement part, and provide the invoice to myself, Wes or Matt, and you will be reimbursed. By all means, if you notice an issue and are uncomfortable in making the repair, let me know and we will figure out a way to quickly make the fix. There are so many members here that have special skills, I am sure we can find someone to help us make the fix.Dairy Bar - Last year was a great year for the Dairy Bar and I thank everyone for embracing the direction we are headed. That said, we are working on some very simple, inexpensive updates to the Dairy Bar as our business and membership grows. We will need to accommodate new folks while continuing to provide a great product and environment to all of our members. I know RC Wes will

have a profound impact on the Dairy Bar with the parties he is planning I think this energy will continue to pay off with new membership as people realize SSC is a great place to hang out.Docks - Several new docks have been ordered which continues to raise the bar in terms of supporting the vessel needs in Sandusky. I am very excited to let you all know that many of the new docks have arrived, so we are in a good spot regarding meeting our goals. There is also planning regarding repurposing the docks being replaced in other areas. We continually work to be fiscally responsible in how we manage the costs/revenues at SSC, and I want to be sure everyone is aware of the careful and mindful efforts going on behind the scenes.Thank you to all for embracing the new direction of the club, a direction that makes the club one of the, if not the, premier clubs on the Great Lakes. Volunteerism is a great thing and ensures everyone has skin in the game (which is obvious we all want our club to succeed). I have heard so many positive comments over the past year regarding what is happening, and this effort only will be successful with the ongoing support of the entire club as well as the continued guidance from those who have blazed the path before us. I am so excited for 2020, and look forward to ongoing directional adjustments. Remember, like in sailing, a five degree adjustment makes a huge difference at the end of a leg. Plus, sharpen your card playing skills for the Euchre tournament that will take place in April. The dates for tht will be sent soon. So, next Wednesday stop down to the marina and check on your boat. Then head over to the Sailing Club and grab a beer and warm up by the fire.Contact me – Please feel free to email me with questions, comments, or suggestions at [email protected] or on my cell at 386-416-9034.

RC Boats ...................................... Terry ParkerThings have slowed to a crawl with the low temperatures in February. Epoxy, adhesives, paint, and varnish don’t like cold. Come warmer weather, there will be lots of painting and re-fitting to do. We’ll likely need to increase the number and frequency of our workdays to get ready for spring launch. We’ll send out email blasts to notify club members of that schedule when it is decided. In the meantime, if you’re interested in helping this spring, and aren’t currently on our email list, please contact me. There will also be opportunities after the boats are launched! Thanks! Feel free to contact me at terryparker47@gmail orvoice/text 440-320-3100.

Sandusky Junior Sailors, Inc .............. Mic Kaufman / Suzanne HartleyIt’s hard to believe that the sailing season is almost here! April marks the unofficial start of the sailing season, so hereare some updates on our programs: Powerboats - We have been working on rehabbing a few of our powerboats this winter and hope to be showing them off at SSC soon! Our Adaptive Sailing program (see flier) is going to start working on boats around April 15. If you would like to help, please contact Larry Knauer at [email protected]. For anyone new to sailing or wanting to learn more, we have a “Start Sailing” class that will be held on Thursday nights in April, beginning April 2. (see flier)Our Kids’ Learn to Sail Programming starts the week of June 8. New this year is a “Discover Boating” class. This new class will provide an introduction to water supports including instruction on power boats, kayaks, paddle boards and sailboats. This class is a great way to introduce kids to different water sport options. It’s our hope they will all fall in love with sailing, and if not, at least the water! (see flier)We are offering five regular sessions of Learn to Sail. These weekly camps will be offered as AM only or All day classes. At the end of the season there will be an All Day, One Week Advanced Sail Camp. This session is by approval of the directors. As with any of our programs, tuition assistance and scholarships are available. (see flier)The Sandusky Junior Race Team is has been busy prepping for the 2020 season. On March 15 there will be a race team recruitment event from 3:00-5:00pm at SSC. It will cover requirements, practice times and traveling to regattas. Anyone interested in joining the race team is welcome to join.Community Sailing - We are working diligently on expanding our community outreach to attract more community members to experience sailing. We have a number of opportunities available including one week of Community Sailing classes in early July, and every other Monday evening. Please consider helping with our community or adaptive programs. We are working on expanding our Adult Learn to Sail programming. On Thursday nights this summer we will host “Drop in Sailing,” an opportunity for those interested to stop in and try sailing for one night. (see flier) Throughout the summer we will also be offering the Basic Keelboat class on select weekends and weekdays.Chartering a boat - In 2020, we will be offering a number of keelboats and dingys available for daily and longer term rentals. Please check out the SSC website for more information. For information on any of our programs, please visit sanduskysailingclub.com

Adult Keelboat Instructors - SSC and SJSI are working on expanding our Adult Learn to Sail programming and are looking at becoming a certified center to teach ASA’s basic keelboat program. The ASA basic keelboat and additional ASA ratings are recognized internationally and are the most common accepted ratings to charter boats on vacation worldwide. Before we can proceed, we need instructors certified to teach the program. Any member interested in teaching would need to attend a three-day Instructor Qualification Clinic conducted by ASA, either at SSC or at a nearby location. Qualified instructors are paid. So, while it can be fun to teach adults how to sail, it can also be a way to earn additional income while you do what you love doing…..sailing. The basic keelboat training program for neophyte sailors involves 15 hours of instruction, over two or three days. If you are interested in learning more about how you can help train new sailors (and potential new SSC members), please get in touch with Mic Kaufman at [email protected] or 419-370-6642.News from ISCA Fleet No. 1 ......... Bernie AshykInterlake Sailing Class Association’s 2020 National Championship. Sandusky Sailing Club, birthplace of the Interlake, is proud to be hosting the Nationals, again. This series of races will begin with measurement on July 14 and 15. The Women’s and Junior racing will be on July 15, followed by the Championship and Challenger races on July 15, 16 and wrapping up on Saturday, July 17. SSC Trustee Danny Olson - [email protected], is chairing this prestigious event. Danny will need our membership to help on the various committees. Please keep these dates open and plan to lend a hand on shore or on the water. Further details for opportunities to volunteer will be forthcoming. Cruising Fleet ............................... Mark SwableyThe 2020 Leamington Sail-Away is Friday, June 12 through Sunday, June 14. This is a great way to start the cruising season and we welcome new members to join us for this trip. Skippers Sheryl Hoffman and John Wiggins will be coordinating dockage and Friday evening cocktails and appetizers on the dock. Leamington Municipal Marina www.leamington.ca/marina dockage fees are $2.25 ft. plus tax (Canadian). We currently have 12 docks reserved. Plan on a Friday morning departure from SSC. There will be a BYOB and shared appetizers at the dock upon arrival of the fleet. Stay tuned for more on social activities for the weekend. Saturday day is on your own to explore Leamington by bike, hike, kayak or taxi. Our return sail is on Sunday. Due to Sheryl’s schedule we will not be coordinating the Pelee Island sail as in past years. The fleet is welcome to carry on this tradition; if anyone is willing to take the helm on this, please let us know.IMPORTANT: Customs check-in is no longer available at Cedar Point or Put-in-Bay. You must have the CBP Roam App on your phone or tablet unless all of your crew members have Global Entry cards or an I-68. Please register well in advance for this.
