Dear Bishop Stang Friends and Families: As we begin Lent this week, let us pray together that we can connue to live our mission as a school community in an ever more powerful way. On March 12 we will meet next year's incoming freshman at the Class of 2023 Registraon Night. It looks like a very strong class and we look forward to welcoming our new families to become a part of our Bishop Stang family. Our new families will learn more about our many new and excing areas of progress, including the College Gateway Program, a new partnership with Lands End School Uniforms, a new partnership with Folle Books for online book sales and spiritwear, advances in Blending Learning and Special Educaon, and our athlec field renovaon project. Please keep an eye on your email for important announcements on these maers in the coming weeks! Addionally, we hope you can join us for our aucon on Friday, April 5! This year's theme is "Calling All Superheros!" It’s sure to be another great evening with state- of-the-art electronic bidding, hors d'oeuvres, games, raffles, silent aucon, dinner and live aucon. From The Admissions Office Class of 2023 Course RegistrationTuesday, March 12

• All registered incoming freshmen and their parents are invited to Class of 2023 Course Registration Night on Tuesday, March 12th from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. The meeting will focus on the course selection process for the 2019-2020 school year.

• Administrators will review the course level placement recommendations, HSPT placement exam results, competency exam information, FACTS Tuition Management Program, transportation options, uniforms and many other topics pertinent to enrollment.

• The 2019-2020 Program of Studies, which lists the course options specific to incoming freshmen, has been posted on the Academics page at www.bishopstang.org. Students will be asked to select their Fine Arts, Physical Education and World Language courses.

• School Counselors and Department Chairpersons will be available to answer questions regarding courses and level placements prior to turning in course selection sheets.

• Lands’ End School will offer a special fitting event in the school cafeteria on March 12 from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm and on March 13 from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm. Families may choose a time for a personalized fitting session for their child to try on uniform pieces. Schedule a Lands’ End personalized fitting session.

• Please contact Mrs. Payette if your child is not registered but you would like to attend the Class of 2023 Course Registration meeting, [email protected].

From The School Counseling OfficeSpring College Fair Thursday, April 11thFor any interested students and parents!On Thursday, April 11th from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm in the Bishop Stang cafeteriarepresentatives from colleges and universities will be present to meet with students and parents. This is a great opportunity for juniors to start building their college lists!

Senior Decision LettersThe School Counseling office is reminding seniors to please bring in copies of their college decision letters along with any financial aid award letters for our records.

Host Families Wanted Each year we are fortunate to welcome international students into our school community. Many Bishop Stang families become host families for these students and provide room and board, a supportive environment, and transportation between school and home. If you would like to learn more about hosting for a year or substitute hosting for vacations, contact Ms. Nora Hebshie at [email protected].

NHS- St. Patrick's Day Dress Down Non-Uniform Pass- $2 March 14thWear Green & White! The NHS St. Patrick’s Day fundraiser will be held on Thursday, March 14th. Passes may be purchased in advance for $2, and students may wear green and white. The money raised will be donated to support the Dartmouth Fire Department training efforts.

Late Bus Schedule Resumes March 19th The late bus will resume service for the first school day of spring sportson Tuesday, March 19th. The late bus does not run during the winter.

Heart Association Book Drive -Open for Book DonationsBook Drive - April 6thThe 8th Annual Bishop Stang book sale is Saturday, April 6th, from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm in the cafeteria. Book donations are being accepted in the Business Office. All proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association in memory of former teacher Richard Flynn and Joseph Silva. Save A Life - Stang Hosts Blood DriveTuesday, April 30th, 9 am-2 pm The National Honor Society will host a blood drive on April 30th, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm. Parents can walk in or register in advance by going to http://www.redcross.org/blood and enter the sponsor code BISHOPSTANG. Students between 16 and 18 years of age need a signed parental consent form. The consent form is a mandatory requirement. American Red Cross regulations require a photo ID with proof of age (driver’s license, school ID). Contact Mrs. McDougal for more info at [email protected].

FLIK Dining Chocolate for FebruaryDuring March we will try several diffrent BBQ's. Flavors from Kansas, Carolinas, Memphis and Louisiana. After Prom Meeting It’s Luau Time!Meetings on March 5thand April 3rdThe After Prom Party meetings will be held in the Music Room. All parents, not only senior parents, are invited to this meeting and are encouraged to become involved in the event. Student Council Set to Attend ConferenceMar 6th-8th Members of Student Council will be attending a 3 day MASC (Massachusetts Association of Student Council) conference in Hyannis on March 6th-8th. Student Council Members attending are Luke Cambra '22, Myles Forgue '20, Laurenne Wilkinson '20, Emma Pimentel '20, and Lauren Mauretti 19. They will flex their leadership skills by running workshops, share best practices with other student councils from across the state, and hopefully bring back an award for being a Gold Council of Excellence!

“Calling All Superheroes” - 30th Annual AuctionFriday, April 5, 2019 at Whte's of Westport

Items include: A Week in Italy; Patriots Tickets; Over 100 Silent Auction Items, Raffles, and so much more…

Join us on Friday, April 5th at 6pm at White’s of Westport for the 2019 Bishop Stang Auction. This is the largest fundraising event we hold each year - and is always a fun night for parents and alumni! The event will once again feature electronic bidding, exciting live and silent auction items, an extensive wine pull, and so much more! The evening will include a full dinner.

From The Athletic Department:Winter SeasonWinter Sports BanquetsSunday, March 24thAll Winter Sports programs will have an end of the season banquet or team gathering. The primary banquet date is Sunday, March 24, at 4:00 pm, at White’s of Westport. Teams will have their banquet on this date, unless otherwise determined by the head coach of your program. All athletes and families will be contacted via email with details for upcoming banquets.

Returning Winter Sports UniformsDue Immediately Upon Season EndStudents are responsible for returning their uniforms to their coaches at the end of each season. If a student fails to do so, then that student’s family will be charged for the missing items.

Spring Sports Tryouts and PracticesMonday, March 18thSpring Sports tryouts and practices begin on Monday, March 18th. Students will get information for times and places from the coaches. There is a faculty retreat on March 18th and there is no school for students; however tryouts & practices will be held beginning at 2:30 pm.

Spring Sports Meetings with Parents and GuardiansTuesday, March 26th - 6:00 pmSpring Sports Meetings with Parents and Guardians will be held on Tuesday, March 26th, at 6:00 pm. Parents and guardians of Spring Athletes are encouraged to attend. Parents and guardians will have the opportunity to meet the coaches, and review team policies and expectations.

April Vacation Policy(April 12 - 22)Attendance is required on all Spring Sports teams through Thursday, April 11th. All Spring Athletes must be at practices and games up to, and including, Thursday, April 11th. April Vacation begins on Friday, April 12th; Spring Sports resume, in full, on Tuesday April 23rd. All student-athletes and families must keep this in mind, and adhere to these dates when planning your spring vacations.Optional team practices may still be held for any student-athletes who are not away on vacation.

Spring SeasonParticipation requirements are due March 8thAll Spring Sports athletes must register online & complete the following:● Register through the FAMILY ID program● Each student must have a valid physical. Physicals are valid for thirteen months from the date of the physical.● Each student must also be current with his or her IMPACT Test (concussion baseline) in order to try out for spring teams.● Students who have not completed these registered requirements will not be allowed to try out for Spring Sports.

Register for IMPACT TestingIMPACT Testing will take place March 6th & 7th3:00 pm - in the Art Room● Spring Sports candidates who have not participated in fall or winter athletics must be sure to have up to date IMPACT Testing.● Under state guidelines, students are required to take the IMPACT test every two years. Freshmen, Juniors, and transfer students need to take IMPACT testing for Spring Sports, if they have not yet done so this year.● Students can register for the IMPACT Testing by contacting our Athletic Trainer, Mike Cordeiro, via email at [email protected]● Families must make arrangements for their students to take the IMPACT Test during one of those two dates.

Visit bishopstang.organd click on Athletic Schedules under Quick Links, or visit the Athletics homepage.● The MIAA schedule can be viewed for all teams, or for specific teams.Sign up for email notifications of schedule changes as they happen (choose teams and click on schedule notification options).● You can also download the MIAA app on your favorite device – search for it on iTunes or your preferred app location.
