MARCH 2018 We’ve had just enough warm weather to convince me that spring is just around the corner. It’s so exciting to think that in a few short weeks we’ll be back out on the course, the days will be longer, the temps will be warmer, the pool will be filled, tennis will be ramping up and the men’s and LGA leagues beginning. There’s certainly been a buzz around the club since re-opening on February 1. Our new lounge is absolutely fantastic, and we cannot thank the membership enough for the positive comments we’ve received about the lounge and our refreshed dining spaces. Its fantastic to see so much progress at the club. We’ll never be able to properly thank those that made this happen enough! Who likes Enchiladas? I know we do…& I’m happy to report that The Big Enchilada will be arriving back to Mattoon right around April 1. Sounds like it’s been a busy season in Naples and I’m excited to have Stevo back at the club….with new ideas and experiences learned during his winter assistant professional position. Sunday brunch is once again being offered at the club, each week from 9A-1P; and is open to the public. I’d ask our entire membership to help spread the word regarding this weekly event to ensure brunch is well attended enabling the club to continue this fantastic benefit. Easter is just around the corner, and I have included the Easter Brunch Menu within this newsletter. Reservations are now being taken. Let’s work together, communicate in an open and constructive manner, and keep this positive trajectory of your club heading in the right direction! Its going to be a great year at MGCC.

APRIL 2018
Blaine’ Bits
Blaine Henson, Golf Course Superintendent
Winter weather means spring clean-up! Over the next few weeks members will see the maintenance crew start
to “trickle” back to work. There is lots to be done; including general course clean-up and many detail items we
will accomplish to ensure our membership enjoys another great season. As the season begins, I’d ask everyone to
adhere to our daily cart rules, practice area rules and stay patient with the crew as we start our early season
work. I would anticipate the practice tee opening around March 10, utilizing our matts during the first few weeks.
And, we will allow carts onto the course as soon as we are able.
To honor those Members who have gone before us, please consider a memorial bench as a
permanent and lifetime tribute; provided by Adams Memorials. Please contact the club, 234-8831
for orders, associated fees and placement.
As reference, a similar bench is in place near the tenth tee box.

Greetings Mattoon Members! Its been great seeing many of you in Naples during the winter months, and I look
forward to my return to MGCC soon.
In the next week please find the 2018 events calendar including golf, dining and social functions on the member
portal under “Member Central”. Soon thereafter I will include all tournament info and registration information.
The million-dollar shot sounds exciting and I hope we’ll have increased participation in club events as members
try and qualify for the chip-off shoot-out and million-dollar shots!
Over the course of the next few months, I’ll review the steps necessary to access the Member Portal via the
MGCC web-site. Please contact me with any questions. [email protected]
