New Books For Adults
A Few Red Drops, by Claire Hartfield. Contem-
porary accounts form the basis of this description
and analysis of the conditions leading up to the
Chicago Race Riot of 1919, a week of violence
between white and black Chicago residents that left
38 people dead and 500 injured.
A Column of Fire, by Ken Follett. This is the
third installment in the Kingsbridge series, following
Pillars of the Earth and World Without End. This
novel follows Ned Willard, separated from his be-
loved Margery Fitzgerald by his loyalty to Queen
Elizabeth in an England torn by religious and politi-
cal strife.
Christmas: A Biography, by Judith Flanders.
Flanders examines the myths, legends and history,
from biblical times to the present, of the Christmas
holiday in this critically acclaimed history.
Homegrown: Cooking from My New England
Roots, by Matt Jennings. Award-winning
Boston chef, Matt Jennings, reaches back to his
roots to find the quintessential New England cuisine
perfect for family dinners and entertaining.
New Books For Youth
The Blue Hour, by Isabelle Simler. In the magical
twilight, everything in nature comes together,
between day and night, in a symphony of blue.
Every Color Soup, by Jorey Hurley. A beautifully
illustrated introduction to colors, vegetables,
counting, and cooking for the beginning reader.
Poppies of Iraq, by Brigitte Findakly. A graphic
memoir (illustrated by Findakly’s husband, Lewis
Trondheim) of Findakly’s childhood in Saddam
Hussein’s Iraq, this book depicts Findakly’s affection
for, and grief at abandoning, parts of her culture and
history when her family relocates to Paris to escape
Saddam’s regime.

Memoir Workshop
Tuesday, Mar. 6 at 2 PM
Everyone has a story! With verbal or visual
prompts, we practice reflecting on a single
memory, followed by writing a short,
individual piece about that memory. In this
way, the short pieces we write can add up,
and we do not need to be discouraged by
the thought of having “too little time” to
tackle a memoir. The support of the group
and facilitator can
make the process
even easier. This
program is
co-sponsored by
the University of
Wisconsin-
Baraboo/Sauk
County Library.
Scrabble for Adults
Monday, Mar. 5 at 6:30 PM
Match wits with
other word nerds!
We will have
several Scrabble
boards set up by
the fireplace to
accommodate
those who love to play with vocabulary.
