Information From Your

Church Council

In an effort to keep members informed and involved, we hope to make this a monthly feature of the ‘Trumpet’ newsletter. Results from some of the Transition Task Force surveys showed that the communication process at Trinity could be improved, and that the ‘Trumpet’ was the preferred method of being informed. Your feedback will be appreciated.

1) The first meeting of our restructured and reduced Church Council took place on Tuesday, February 9. Instead of up to 23 people sitting around three tables in the Gathering Place, we had 9 members around one table in the Centennial Room. The change was very noticeable and appreciated. We thank the congregation for approving this change. 2) The efforts of the Call Committee continue. We are receiving additional names of Pastor candidates from the Synod and we look forward to more interviews in the near future. Please continue your prayers for this important committee. 3) Work on replacing the lights in the Sanctuary is nearing an end. The results so far have brightened the atmosphere and we will appreciate the energy savings as time goes on. 4) One of our three areas of mission emphasis is Hunger Relief. Trinity members have responded well. Giving to the 3rd Sunday collection has increased and we are half-way to our goal of $10,000 in special gifts. Marlene Hanson will be providing an FYI on March 6th regarding our local Food Shelf, it’s needs and how we can support it. Steve Frederickson Council President

Personal

Care Kits

This season of

Lent, we will walk with people around the world afflicted by war, displacement and poverty by collecting and assembling Lutheran World Relief Personal Care Kits. Personal Care Kit items will be collected during Lent. Each kit includes: 2 bars of soap (4-5 oz., any brand,

in original wrapping) 1 sturdy comb 1 bath towel (light-weight, maximum 52"x27", dark color recommended) 1 nail clipper (metal, attached file

optional) 1 toothbrush (adult size in original

packaging) Toothpaste will be provided by LWR Do not add other items or leave out any of the items listed. Items may be dropped off in the basket on the round table in the back of the sanctuary. Thank you for your support! Trinity Lutheran Church Women

COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS –

FEBRUARY 9, 2016

Pastor Paul led discussion on “Strong Leadership Team’ from Twelve Keys to an Effective Church. We focus on achievements, not activities. We focus on the current strengths we are expanding and the new strengths we are adding. Financial reports were presented and reviewed. Discussed which committees should remain as active or should be formed or re-activated. The Trustees will now be called the Property Committee. Will promote the Faribault County (Blue Earth) Food Shelf for March mission emphasis. Reviewed Synod-wide opportunities.

Complete copy of minutes is available on

the display rack outside the office.

To help ELCA members prepare for the observance of the 500th anniversary, the ELCA will host its first Grace Gathering in partnership with the 2016 ELCA Churchwide Assembly. The assembly and gathering will meet under the theme “Freed and Renewed in Christ, 500 years of God’s Grace in Action.” Participants to the 2016 Grace Gathering will have an opportunity to attend assembly workshops and presentations and be introduced to resources designed to help prepare for local and regional observances of the anniversary. Information about the ELCA Grace Gathering is available at www.ELCA.org/gracegathering. Donna Perryman is registered to attend the Grace Gathering, including experimental learning events on food security, human trafficking and resurrection (explore New Orleans 11 years after Hurricane Katrina and the

breech of the levees).

In March, the feature will be on Sunday School and Release Time. From church history compiled by Mrs. Margaret Russell: The first Sunday School was established in 1896. A youth group for teens was established a year earlier, in 1895. Weekday “release time”, originally known as Gary System of Weekday Religious Instruction, began in 1918. On May 1, 1958, furniture is purchased for the new Sunday School Parish Hall (now the Education Wing). The purchase included 222 desks, 200 folding chairs, 18 bulletin boards/chalk boards and 6 tables. Bible School teachers are paid $30. The Council created a Youth Center Committee. In 1982, Mrs. Tom (Carol) Uecker becomes the first salaried education coordinator, serving 6 years. In May, 1984, the Church Council directed the Education Committee to pursue the possibility of combining some Sunday classes with United Presbyterian Church just across the alley. 1988-89 classroom list had 2 – 3 sections for each grade. Third Grade met in the Presbyterian Church Tower, Sixth Grade met in the Shag Room, Seventh Grade in the Chapel, one Eighth Grade section met in the Presbyterian Church Gold Room. Pastors Clark and Steve, plus 45 volunteers, taught on Sunday mornings during fall 1988 through spring 1989.

Short and sweet

As I sit down to write my monthly newsletter it’s 10 p.m. on the

evening of the Mission Meal. I am beyond exhausted but also so

grateful for the reason. I couldn't be more proud of the youth that

help serve, more blessed by my youth committee that helped and

more grateful for the great turnout of people that came out to

support the event! The kids feel valued and your love and support

for Youth Ministry encourages me daily.

The reason I mention it is 10 p.m. as I write this is because I am

the last one to submit my newsletter for press t ime in the morning.

When I was ready to crawl into bed, the f irst thought that came to

my mind is well… “it’s going to be short and sweet.’’ So forgive me

for my brevity. But know that although I am not writ ing as much

as usual, I do have a lot to say when it comes to my grat itude for

all of you.
