“OUTSTANDING"

Executive producers James Hillard and Belinda King have once again pushed the boundaries of local

theatre with Encore Theatre Company’s production of the rock opera Evita.

Director Liz Bennett has done an astounding job with the performers. Katy Pakinga as the “saintly” Evita just gets

stronger as the story progresses. Dean Cocker’s rich deep voice lends the appropriate authority to the role of Eva’s

husband, dictator Juan Peron. Matthew Garwood as the dashing Che, plays the traditional Greek Chorus role. He

handles the difficult story-telling lyrics with clear diction. There’s something magical about Maus McCord’s voice,

and while only onstage for a brief moment, Abbey Hansson delivers a fabulous rendition of Another Suitcase in

Another Hall. Darryl Rogers’ full-stage set design lit by Jason Bovaird creates the feel of a Cinderella world

overshadowed by darker tones. Musical Director Matt Dudfield and Vocal Director Travis Hennessy have put

together an incredible chorus. Jacquelyne France has full control of the large cast in her carefully staged

choreography. Win Gray and the costume team are to be applauded.
