Helene will be speaking about her Chinese Tasmanian heritage: Women Past, Present and Future. Helene, a former ABC Beijing correspondent, was the first non-white reporter on Australian TV, and the first female posted abroad by the ABC. Helene is the author of Shouting from China, Gentle John My Love My Loss, Lazy Man in China and Ching Chong China Girl.

A “Devonport Diamond” is not necessarily a woman who performs the most community service in a high-profile role – she will be a woman who continually puts in effort often for little thanks or recognition, or a woman who may have overcome a difficult situation and rebuilt her life in a positive way.
