New Pole

ON show for the first time at our February meeting was the first of two new poles commissioned to hang our banners.

The Pole was kindly made by Jim Adams and a taller version will be made for the Probus Club banner.

The ‘home made’ banner shown on the right was made by Margaret Devlin, Aileen Clarke and Betty Wilks not long after our Club was chartered.

What is an AGM?

AN Annual General Meeting, commonly referred to as an AGM, is a formal meeting which is held once a year.

It is a legal requirement for voluntary organisations that have company status. It is good practice for charities to have an AGM to act as a review of the year and deal with issues such as the election of committee/board members and reviewing the annual accounts.

From the President’s Desk!

Dear Probians IT is said that time passes quickly and so another Probus year comes to a close. I didn’t realise how fast the year would go but I thank you for your support and encouragement throughout the year.

We had a very delightful February meeting with our guests from Fresh Food Markets showing us how to prepare fruit platters and what fruit and vegetables are better for us.

Our next meeting is our General Meeting and Annual General Meeting. We have one position still vacant namely Trips & Tours. A nomination for this position will be accepted from the floor at the AGM so I ask you to think very seriously about whether you may be able to contribute to our Club. We are a very active Club but without a full committee, it may not be possible to have as many activities as we have had previously. By becoming a Committee member, you also get to know members a little better rather than just faces. It’s not hard work.

If, upon reading this Newsletter you would like to discuss a role you could play, please contact myself on 5282-3663 or Brian Harris 5282-2425.

At this meeting, Brian Harris will be inducted as your President for 2013/2014 year. I am sure Brian will use his experience and ideas to make our year most interesting.

May I take this opportunity to thank the Executive and Committee together with those who filled various roles for their tireless efforts throughout the year.

To Brian and the incoming committee, I am sure you will all make an excellent contribution to our various activities.

President Val

THE King and I is a stage musical, the fifth by the team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. The work is based on the 1944 novel Anna and the King of Siam by Margaret Landon and derives from the memoirs of Anna Leonowens, who became

governess to the children of King Mongkut of Siam in the early 1860s. The story deals with the experiences of the British schoolteacher, who is hired as part of the King's drive to modernise his country. The relationship

between the King and Anna is marked by conflict through much of the play, as well as by a love that neither is able to express.

MEMBERS to make their own way to GPAC for a 7:30pm start. Tickets: $33:00 per person.
