I thought that I wouldtake the time in this col-umn to update ourmembers on some new andexciting changes at the FPAnational office.

In November of last year,FPA presented a new strategic frameworkat the Chapter Leadership Conference inDenver. In January of this year, I was pro-vided a copy of the FPA Strategic DirectiveSummary.

The main topic of this summary is thatfor FPA to thrive, a clearer and narrowerorganizational focus was required. As a re-sult of their strategic planning work, the FPABoard of Directors adopted the followingstrategic directive:

To be the recognized and unquestionedprofessional membership resource andadvocate for CFP® professionals by em-bracing the concept of “one profession/one designation” as our sole business di-rective and policy filter.

The obvious takeaway from this is thatFPA is clearly focused on the CFP® marksand that all of the products and services theydevelop will be done so through the lens ofthis strategic directive. This directive hasalready produced some positive change.

For those of you that have recently re-newed your FPA membership — or forthose that will be doing so soon — you willnotice that FPA has launched new member-ship categories and that they will allowmembers to elect a monthly payment op-tion for their dues. These changes shouldhelp attract new CFP® professionals to ourorganization and provide some flexibility inhow they pay their dues.

Another positive change is FPA’s focus onproviding more information regarding prac-tice management.
