March 2013 Bulletin

Itʼs a Deanʼs Lifee semester has picked up, which means I once again have the opportunity to attend classes, events, and performances. Some highlights from February include the opening of the MFA Now 2013 exhibit at Roots Division in San Francisco. ree MFA students from SJSU had their work chosen for the exhibit. I enjoyed seeing the photography, sculpture, and ceramic art of Barbara Boissevain, Jonathan Huang, and Kat MacKinnon at the exhibit.

e well-deserved attention given to Spartan Film Studios in the weeks leading up to Cinequest is a strong reminder of how SJSU continues to produce high-quality student experiences across the university. Read more about Spartan Film Studios, now known as “Hollywood U” thanks to the San Jose Mercury News!

I look forward to attending the opening of “SeeYourselfSeeing” exhibit at the Natalie and James ompson Gallery in the Art Building (March 5-April 5). e event will be guest curated by lmmaker, writer, architect, and professor of design Madeline Schwartzman.

I also very much look forward to the 2013 College of Humanities and the Arts Emeritus Faculty Brunch (March 15, 11am-1pm @ Student Union Barrett Ballroom) followed by the Student Showcase (1-4pm @ Barrett Ballroom). e showcase will feature live performances, poetry creation, art competitions, displays of student work, and other opportunities to see and meet our students. I’d like to encourage all faculty, sta, students, alumni, and emeriti faculty to attend and celebrate the many talents and accomplishments of our students!

Sincerely,

Lisa Vollendorf, Dean
