The new KANON

Our President, Konstantinos G. Pitsakis, Professor of the History of Law at the Democritus University of Thrace passed away at the dawn of Monday the 6th of August 2012, due to advanced cancer that nobody was aware of. It was a sudden loss for his family and friends and for our Society. His funeral was held at the chapel of the Third Cemetery of Athens on Thursday the 9th of August 2012. Prof. Spyros Troianos bid farewell on behalf of the Society and gave the most, among the seven, touching eulogy.

Our Honourable President, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Carl Gerold Fürst Prof. em. für kirchenrechtliche Rechtsgeschichte der Albert-Ludwig Universität Freiburg i.Br., also passed away, one day after Prof. Pitsakis death, at the dawn of the 7th of August 2012. His funeral was held at the chapel Mariahilf in Innsbruck, Austria on Friday 17th August. In 2012, we had another loss: Charalambos Papastathis, Prof. of Ecclesiastical Law at the Aristoteleion Univeristy of Thessaloniki also passed away.

21TH Gongress in

bari

Good news! The 21st Conference of the Society for the Law of the Eastern Churches will be hosted by the Faculty of Jurisprudence and the Ecumenical Institute of Bari, Italy, from September 10 to 13 of this year. Professors Lorenzo Lorusso and Raffaele Coppola, both active members of our Society, are extending a warm welcome to us all. The theme to be examined, as suggested at our general assembly in Athens (September 17, 2011), and accepted by the Board of Governors, is: Particular Laws and Current Issues in the Churches. The opening session of the Congress will take place at the Faculty of Jurisprudence of the University of Bari and the working sessions at the modern Facilities of the Customs Guard Cadet in Bari. The Members of the Congress will take lodgings with the same Facilities of the Customs Guard Cadet at affordable prices. The speakers will be special guests of the hosting institutions. Le stade actuel du dialogue théologique entre l’Eglise orthodoxe et l’Eglise catholique-romaine porte sur la question de la primauté et de son mode de manifestation dans l’Eglise. Les deux Eglises reconnaissent en général la primauté comme constitutive de leur ecclésiologie. Il existe cependant des différences

significatives de compréhension concernant les fondements scripturaires, historiques et théologiques de la primauté et concernant la manière dont cette primauté doit être exercée dans l’Eglise.
