How did you get into shoe designing?

All the reason that I get into shoe designing is because I love the shoes. When I see the people walking, the first thing I see are their shoes. Shoes are something special to showing the people char-acter

Tell us a bit about how Amble was born

Amble started in August 2009. It’s started when I was in University, so I do my study and also build AMBLE. The reason is I don’t have much money to buy a good shoes, because it’s expensive. So I started made my own shoes with my concept design. I wear it to my campus and many of my friends ask about my shoes. I got an idea to sell it to my friends, beside that I also sell it in kaskus. Un-believeble the 13 shoes sold within 3 days. I learn about the making of shoes, material and designing just from book, internet and some of shoe factory in Indonesia. I do so many development until now to make a good shoes.

How has Amble Footwear approached as a social mediastrategy? What platforms have been the most successful?

from the first I build AMBLE, I have a strategy to maximize all the social media facility because I believe the social media is a new way for people to get information, friendship and do so many activities. I’m manage my own website and social media to do-ing AMBLE activities. The people can get information and buy through online and we will ship to customer place. Social media and website is our biggest platform.

13What are some of your favorite shoes that you havedesigned?

One of my favorite shoes that I have designed is Phoenix. The reason is because i combine between hiking boot and half cab sneakers design. It’s tough and fashionable but also comfy.

Is there any international (shoes) brand which inpires you the most? What is it? Why?

Yes, Dr. Marteen , Camper and Vans are my biggest inspiration in shoes designing. Because they are Star. They have so many history, movement and good design in shoes industry

How many pairs of shoes do you own?

It’s about 100 shoes

How does the brand plan to evolve and grow in the near future?

Make a movement and community also innovation. Not also in product, but also in marketing, distribution, service and how we manage our customer.

The most challenging thing about designing shoes are how to design a shoes with a strong charac-ter, good looking and also comfortable. Because if we talk about designing shoes, we not only talking about model or cutting. We must thinking about pat-tern, shape, construction, material, function, quality

and many more

Three things people may not know aboutAmble Footwear

1. Amble is a 100% Indonesian brand

2. Before we produce a new model, we make a prototype and test it for 3 month before we produce it.

Since opening your shop, what have you learned about your customers?

There are so many character of customers. They have a different style, taste and need. So it im-portant for us to know what type of customer that can interest with AMBLE. We have many loyal customer and they help us to built AM-BLE much better in time to time.

Are you gonna produce heels-shoes? Why?

I dont know. What do you think? haha

What do you think of the competitors in localfootwear business?

Good, many competitors make us keep moving forward to be different and more good. Now many competitors also have a good products and they have their own seg-ment. So in other way it’s good for Indonesia local indus-try and customer.

So Amble products are categorize as formal shoes or casual?

Basically, Amble is a casual shoes. But now we covered

from formal to casual shoes in our style, our way.

Canvas Living

How did the name Canvas Living come about?

The name spruced from the idea of applying art on canvas for eve-ryday living products, not just an artwork for display :)

What has been your favourite collection after all?

The Forest from fall2012 collection.

How do you get inspired when it comes to creation?

From music and travelling.

What does product variation that Canvas Living currently pro-vide?

We offer quite a variety of products ranging from stationery, acces-sories to home-living products.

I see your line has an eco-friendly campaign. Can you elaborate on the subject?

We use mostly indonesian derived fabrics: natural cotton canvas fabrics. All our prints are with water-based ink, which is safe for our water and soil. Our paperbags are from recycled paper. Finally, in terms of logistic, we hardly use plastic, we instead make reusable tarpaulin bags for delivery/storage.

As a fan of home decor, what do you love most about it?

I love that I can decorate my dwelling space according to seasons and trends. Changing prints from time to time is fun! Just like fash-ion.

Who’s your illustrator to design the can-vas’ pattern? Is there any particular con-cept?

Sally designs all the patterns n ilustrations. Each design has its own story.

What has been your biggest struggle starting your business till date?

When my husband and I decided to begin, we made a commitment that we will give 100%. So for almost a year, we did R&D (research n development), experiments and invest on equipments and machinery, while building a mini workshop for us.

If mother earth could speak, what would you want to say to the earth?

I’d definitely say,”thank you”.

If you were to expand your product or business what would it be?

We would love to learn making print-gar-nished furnitures.

Nirvana on earth would be..

‘A home, coz it’s where the heart is!’
