Pacific Region’s Data Services Programs and Systems

• Tsunami Warnings

• RSOIS

• Automated Observing Systems

• Site relocations

• Site refurbishments

• New systems and enhancements

Page 3: March 2012

Tsunami Warnings

• Conservative System• Lack of data • Lack of modeling• Tsunami training provided in annual TC/Climate training• Help is on the way – with time

RSOIS

• RSOIS equipment has been successfully deployed at the Palau and Yap (last year) airports and is displayed at AFIS Offices.

• The RSOIS at Yap provides data to both the WSO and the AFIS.

• Plans are for this design to be implemented at Chuuk.

• RSOIS has proven beneficial for AFIS/SAWRS operations collocated with a WSO at the airport.

OBSERVING

• Fully automated surface observing systems are desired at Micronesian airports.

• AFIS personnel working with Airport Authorities, WSOs and Airline Partners to:

• Ensure quality Observations• Proper quality control of observations• Management of aviation program

WSOs

• All WSOs will eventually be located at their respective airports with the exception of WSO Pohnpei and WSO Majuro.

• WSO Palau’s relocation to the airport is TBD.

• Weather observing functions conducted by Palau AFIS personnel will be assumed by the respective WSO staff.

• Majuro AFIS function will likely remain in place due to the distance of the WSO observing point.

• WSO refurbishment began last year with WSO Pohnpei (Near completion)
