It rained cats and dogs last year for our golf classic and play wasstopped almost before it started, but this year the weather wasabsolutely fantastic. The 127 players who participated at the 30 th

Annual Dugout Club Golf Classic were not only treated to abeautiful day but the fresh look of the Table Mountain RancheriaGolf and Country Club.

These two major fund raisers are the heart and soul of our efforts toincrease the enthusiasm for the Fresno State Baseball program.

Our most sincere thanks go to those who participated in each ofthese two events, as well as the many outstanding local businesseswhich assist our efforts by their sponsorships of these events, with

their donation of items for the auctions, and finally by joining us onthe course, or at dinner, or both. All in the name of being a baseballfan from Fresno, California, a great unheralded place locatedsomewhere between Los Angeles and San Francisco in the SanJoaquin Valley

A Pardini’s dinner for nearly 400 and the2009 WAC champions receiving their ringshighlighted the 23rd Annual Double PlayDinner. Held for the first time at the spaciousClovis Veterans Memorial Building, fans, families and players mingled and socializedwhile looking over and buying at the silentauction.

Following the steak dinner, a highlight videoof the 2009 season led to the introduction ofthat team and rings being presented. Forsome, it’s four rings in four seasons. Then avisual presentation of the current teamshowed the workouts they endure to succeed. Each new player introduced himself, hisposition, his most freshman moment and thereason Coach Batesole should give him thestart at his position. The favorite was, “I’llput the ladies in the stands” but all wereenjoyed.

The live auction was interspersed in theprogram and included laser eye treatmentfrom Eye-Q Vision Center, a weekend in adeluxe suite at the Las Vegas Hilton and aprimo gourmet dinner with Chef Ed. Theauction and evening’s events were conductedby the Voice of the Dogs (on KMJ) PaulLoeffler. He can always be counted on tohandle his duties in a masterful way. Hiscontribution to the club is beyond his radioduties.

Ginger Hazel’s decorations and the help ofAnnette Paxton and Patty Parks with seatingand along with Pat Cruise helping at the dooronce again assisted the dinner chair in the

completion of another successful event.

DOUG FISTER : “ALWAYDOUG FISTER : “ALWAYSS A BULLDOG”A BULLDOG”

Doug Fister (2005-06) was in town last weekend to pitch in his firstBulldog Alumni game, giving up two runs in the opening inning inan eventual 8-5 victory by the 2010 squad. Now with the SeattleMariners, Fister took a few moments during the game to talk abouthis baseball career.

On coming back to play in the Alumni game: “It’s great to behere and a lot of fun to see my old friends and teammates today. We’re having fun, but once the game started the competitive juicesstart to flow and we want to win. You find out you’re always aBulldog inside.”Thoughts on his debut in August 2009 with the Seattle Mari-ners: “When I got called up, at first I was in awe just to be there. But you learn quickly that you’re a part of the experience, too, andwhat’s expected from you as a professional at that level. On meeting one of his baseball idols, Ken Griffey, Jr.: “It’samazing to be there on the same team with Griffey. I was in awe ofhim. He’s the epitome of a professional and teammate.”On his time playing at Fresno State: “Coming here was a great fitfor me, academically and athletically. And it was close to home, too. I’d recommend Fresno State to anyone considering cominghere.”

Currently on the Mariner’s 40-man roster, Fister will report tospring training in February. He made his first major league start onAugust 11, 2009 against the Chicago White Sox and pitched six in-nings of 1-hit ball. On August 16 he won his first MLB decision ina 10-3 Mariner victory over the New York Yankees. Fister likes theoff-season moves the Mariners have made and looks forward to be-ing a part of their future success. We wish him all the best luck inthe world.
