The photo and imaging market is getting bigger

Growth through innovations“Memories, dynamics, innovations” – the new title of the Business Forum Imaging Cologne, which

will take place March 2 and 3 at the Congress Centre North of Koelnmesse, perfectly describes the

current and future imaging market. In fact, our industry is not shrinking but growing. Not only

digital networks and the Internet of Things are driven by imaging technologies. For consumers and

pros, the options are also practically unlimited. The top-caliber international speakers at the

Business Forum Imaging Cologne 2016 will share compelling ideas how retailers, service providers,

professional photographers, video producers and manufacturers can take advantage of this dynamic

development.

International conference: On the fi rst day, it is all about innovations. Experience which new ideas

are driving the growth in imaging and understand how you can ride the wave to drive your own

business. Leading scientists, executives of imaging companies and analysts will share their fi ndings

and ideas. The focus will be not only on new products, but also on software-driven solutions and

higher customer satisfaction.

On the second day, the focus of the conference will be today’s challenges and opportunities for

retailers. Get fi rst-hand advice how to stand out from the crowd and compete successfully with

megastores on the one hand and online vendors on the other.

Sponsor Presentation: Meet the Gold and Silver sponsors of the event in the networking zone in

the lobby of the Congress Centre North where they will be presenting their latest innovations and

services.

Networking: On March 2, photokina will host an evening event with ample opportunities for

informal meetings and discussions between visitors and speakers.

All speakers/speeches subject to alteration. Please check www.bfi -photokina.com for program updates.Conference languages are English and German; simultaneous translation is provided.

Opening Keynote: Professor Dr. Christiane Hipp

Brandenburg University of Technology, Cottbus-Senftenberg

Dynamic enterprises: New business models through innovationsChristiane Hipp is Vice-President for Research at the Brandenburg University of Technology, Cottbus-Senftenberg, Germany. During her

work as Chairholder at the University’s Institute of Economics, she concentrated many years on innovation management as an essential

part of modern corporate governance and explored the impact of digital connectivity as well as the increasing importance of service and

personalization. Using case studies from various industries, Christiane Hipp will demonstrate how innovations not only affect existing

business models, but also bring new opportunities for future-oriented enterprises – if they are managed dynamically.

Heribert Tippenhauer, Global Director Photo, Offi ce and Stationery, Consumer Choices, GfK Retail and Technology

Imaging Bestseller – Dynamics through innovationsEverybody talks about the decline of entire segments of the camera market – positive developments, on the other hand, are rarely discussed.

But in fact, there are product segments that are growing because they are driven by innovation. This is not only true of premium compacts

and mirrorless system cameras – completely new product categories such as drones and multicopters as well as the combination of

photography and video fi lming offer consumers new options and can bring new customers into the photo shops. Presenting the latest market

fi gures, Heribert Tippenhauer will show which products are selling well and which are not, and which innovations can create new dynamics

in the photo market.

Jörg Schamuhn, COO, Yuneec Europe GmbH

Sky rising imaging innovationsYuneec, the specialist in innovative aircraft technology, has become one of the leading suppliers of aerial photo/video multicopters. The

dynamics of this fast growing product category depend not only on the right combination of aviation and imaging technologies, but also

on innovative software. After Intel has invested US-$ 60 million in Yuneec International, the company is perfectly set to develop amazing

new applications for its smart multicopters. In his presentation, Jörg Schamuhn will outline how photographers and photo retailers can

take advantage of the growing multicopter business, address some legal aspects and present future perspectives for sky rising imaging

innovations.

Sebastian Vögel, CEO/Managing Director, ip.labs GmbH (Division of Fujifi lm Group)

Picture boom 4.0: Opportunities for personalized photo servicesWhile the usage of digital photos is exploding, the increased volume of images has not yet had corresponding effects on the demand for

personalized picture products. Sebastian Vögel shows new ways for imaging service providers to monetize the ongoing photo trends, and

he explains opportunities to attract customers by leveraging the changing consumer behaviour. He will also focus on important technical

developments such as the disappearance of Flash which has infl uenced the entire industry. Finally, Vögel will present solutions that enable

photo retailers to generate more sales and to focus on their core business.

Michael Krisch, Managing Director MichaelundAlbert, Lecturer in marketing, communication and creativity

Be different! Marketing is not magic – or is it?Each enterprise faces competition, because others are doing similar or even the same. Success depends on the details that make a

company unique. What do you do differently? Why should people be interested in your offerings? Only someone having clear answers

to these questions is able to invest in marketing successfully. Fortunately, this is not magic – or is it? In his interactive presentation, the

consultant for communication and marketing, lecturer, author and active magician Michael Krisch presents effi cient ways to reach people

sustainably and successfully differentiate your business from the competition.

Lee Bonniface, EMEA Marketing Director Consumer Imaging, Canon Europe

The imaging consumerThe photo and imaging industry has been driven by technology for more than 150 years. In the digital age, however, the consumer has taken

the driver seat and controls which products and services they buy and which products remain on the shelf with no relevance to their needs

in this changing imaging world. Addressing the whole industry, Lee Bonniface highlights these consumer trends and shares insights into

possible solutions companies and the industry can take to promote and develop industry offerings to these consumers.

Holger May, Managing Director On-Site Finishing, Cewe

Dynamic photo retailing: Extended target groups by instant printingCewe stands for the joy of photography and is known as Europe‘s leading image provider and capable online print partner. The company’s

photofi nishing portfolio includes Cewe Instant Photos, which create high value for retailers through the Cewe Photo Station. It attracts

not only traditional photographers, but also mobile smartphone photographers of all ages. Through innovative ordering options such as

the Order@Home software and the Mobile Cewe Apps, the Cewe Photo Station also connects customers conveniently with the shop. With

trends and examples, Holger May will unfold how customer-oriented retailers can leverage the joy of photography with instant photo

services and the Cewe Photo Station.

Hans Hartman, President, Suite 48 Analytics

On stage: The dynamics of innovative photo and video appsAfter the European premiere at the Business Forum Imaging Cologne 2015, Hans Hartman, the founder and Chair of the Mobile Photo

Connect conference in San Francisco, will again have qualifi ed developers to demo their photo or video apps in a fast-paced show and tell

session. In exactly four minutes each, the presenters will have the opportunity to explain the features of their apps and their business model;

for another minute or two, they will face Hans’ tough questions. Look forward to an entertaining and enlightening session on what‘s dynamic

and innovative with the latest photo and video apps.

Andrzey Heeb, CMO & Business Innovation, Imaging Solutions AG

Selling picture products through appsAs a leading manufacturer of systems for the industrial production of picture products, Imaging Solutions permanently watches the market

developments. Andrzey Heeb presents examples how print service providers can leverage apps not only to sell more photo products, but also

to reach new, young customers. To make an app successfull, less can even be more: It is essential to offer exactly the products that match

the preferences of the respective target group.

Lee Palmer, General Manager of Imaging EAMER, Kodak Alaris

Nearly 12 billion photos lostBillions of photos are captured and shared every day. Lee Palmer will present the results of a new survey carried out in the UK and Germany,

on people’s relationship with their photos and their phone, revealing some expected and some surprising fi ndings. Lee will also outline how

retailers – through the new Kodak Moments App and by connecting cloud and web services to kiosks – can help consumers easily create a

wide range of picture products and ensure they can preserve and relive their Kodak Moments.

Martin Krolop, Krolop & Gerst Photography

The dynamics of a new breed of picturesMartin Krolop is a passionate photographer and a successful coach. During the past few years, he has supplemented the capture of fi rst-class

photos with the production of 4K videos. The movies with a resolution of 8 MP per frame not only allow the viewer to deeply plunge into the

event; they can also be transformed into picture products that show exactly the right moment and the most beautiful expression. Find out

fi rsthand which new opportunities this technology offers for photographers and specialty retailers.

Dr. Jens Rothenstein, Senior Project Manager, IFH, Cologne

Successful local retailing – it’s possible! The expert for retailing in the digital age at the Cologne-based IFH not only watches closely the development of the retailing sector, but has

also a close eye on consumer preferences. Based on recent research, Dr. Jens Rothenstein explains how local retailers can run their businesses

sucessfully by making a difference to other retailing channels. The key is to create positive shopping experiences for the customers and to

offer the right products in an attractive environment.

Ron Kubara, Director Worldwide Strategic Sales & Planning, Noritsu Works

Retail printing: A software-driven businessFebruary 26, 2016, the acquisition of Noritsu’s imaging business by investment company Japan Lifestyle Limited Partnership will be

completed. Ron Kubara will outline how Noritsu will position itself under the new ownership and present world wide innovations and market

strategies. Photofi nishing is now a software-driven business; Ron Kubara will show on screen and in prints how Noritsu as well as 3rd party

software features that can be easily utilized to signifi cantly improve print quality and enable retailers to attract new customers. He will also

provide little known information about inkjet media that is important to successful high quality printing.

Thomas Görner, Managing Director, Foto Koch

Photo retailing 2016: “The rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated.”As one of the leading privately owned specialty photo retailers in Germany, Foto Koch is at the center of competition with electronics stores

on the one hand and online vendors on the other. The company has responded to the challenges with entrepreneurial courage and signifi cant

investments: In the past year, Foto Koch completely remodeled its shop, developed a new corporate design and laid ground for a new Online

shop. Thomas Görner explains the strategies and ideas behind the investments and how they have been implemented successfully.
