Overview This program is for all levels of nursing staff; from the bedside nurse to the chief nursing officer. All disciplines are important to patient care. However, the reason patients are in the hospital is because they cannot take care of themselves. Nursing is the profession that takes care of people who cannot take care of themselves. This program will focus on issues, from the entire manual, that impacts nursing.

Target Audience CNOs, nursing leadership, staff nurses and accreditation/Joint Commission coordinators

Program Topics The survey processes and standard requirements ICM changes Nursing challenges Cultural competence and effective communication ECRI top 10 hazards for healthcare.

Objectives At the completion of this program, participants will be able to: 1. Identify challenges in processes for The Joint Commission (TJC)2. Review the changes in intracycle monitoring3. Discuss what is new and the “hot topics” for 20154. Review challenges for nursing found throughout the manual (nurses are responsible for many standards outside

of the nursing, or care of the patient, chapter)5. Discuss possible applications for the challenges for nursing6. Compare these challenges to what ECRI lists as the top 10 hazards for healthcare

Faculty Sandy Burke, BSN, RN, MPH, LHRM, has extensive experience in all levels of healthcare. In addition to being president of her own company, Sandy brings outstanding experience as a nurse executive, administrator and risk manager. She also has experience in patient safety and performance improvement. Sandy is the Clinical/Joint Commission consultant for the Florida Hospital Association and previously served as consultant and faculty for TJC from 1989 to 2004. She taught a wide range of programs for TJC education department and was consistently rated the highest of all faculty. Sandy is the patient education consultant for the Veterans’ Administration National Center for Patient Education. In 2009-2010, she was the consultant who developed the Veterans’ Administration national template for medical staff bylaws. She has published Patient Care Trainee-Educational Employment. Her research has included a grant from Abbott Laboratories and work with the University of Florida in perceptions of education.

Certificates of Attendance Certificates of Attendance will be issued to all registrants. These certificates should be placed on file at your hospital as evidence of attendance. Certificates of Attendance will not be awarded for recorded sessions.

Registration $175 for AHA members Registration includes one internet connection and one telephone connection at one location and an unlimited number of participants from your organization in one listening room.

Prior to the event, you will receive instructions and passwords for accessing the event, along with the slide presentation and other resource materials. It is the responsibility of the registrant to download and/or access presentation materials prior to the day of the event.
