Revival: Faith as Wesley Lived It (7 weeks) In this Adam Hamilton study, we will go on a journey through England tracing the life of John Wesley. Wesley’s message and his faith calls for a revival of our hearts and souls so that our world might be changed. His story is our story. It’s our heritage. It defines our faith. It challenges us to rediscover our spiritual passion. Elizabeth Vaughn-Neely, leader; Rm. 109

Equipping the Laity for Ministry“..By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13: 35This is part one of a two-part offering. Through study of the ministries of care and compassion, we will be exploring ways in which the spiritual gifts of laity can be utilized to care for one another (within the church) and extend Christ’s love to a wider world. Through readings and case

studies, we will seek to discern what it means to live out our baptismal vows. Participants who complete this training will be encouraged to work closely with the congregational care team and the pastoral staff to provide on-going pastoral care for our congregation. Due to the nature of this course, enrollment is limited to the first twelve to register. $25 fee for book and materials. Sign up through Jan Kelley, 422-4002 or [email protected] by Pastoral Staff and others. Rm. 119

Acrylic Painting Class - Break Free from the dreary winter blahs and paint in wild explosions of color! Marilynn Eblen, art instructor, will guide you through creating your own very colorful landscape. You will learn the basics of color theory and composition as well as what “Fauve” means! Fee: $20. FUMC Youth Church League Basketball 2016 SCORES BIG!

FUMC sponsored 4 teams this year for the Youth Church League Basketball 2016 season. Approximately 32 games were played at gyms all across town from January to early March. 41 players represented FUMC and we hosted league play in our home gym each Tuesday night. Here are some highlights:

Our Middle School girls team played in the Senior Girls Division as we were the only church to have a Middle School Girls team. While they were outnumbered and outsized, they played hard and comments were made as to their sportsmanship and tenacity. Roses to Carrie Rudy and the gals for their boldness and hustle!

Our Senior High Girls, coached by Jamie Sullivan, are notorious for having a party on the court! They played with intensity and were competitive every minute but it was obvious that having fun was a priority.

Anybody who went to support this team walked away with a smile, win or lose.

Our Senior Boys, led by George Berniard and Trevor Spencer, made it to the Championship game in the A Bracket! The Senior Boys went undefeated in regular season play and only lost the championship game by a few points. It was a heartbreaker but they played an amazing season. They were truly awesome to watch. Mychal Hunt coached this team on and off the court and represented Christ to these young men in a way that will not soon be forgotten.

Our Middle School Boys walked away with a Championship plaque! After a winless season in 2015, Michelle Matlock stepped up to coach these guys and whipped them into shape. They practiced hard each week, won several games and lost some by only a 1-3 point margin but eventually made it into the B Bracket. They battled through the tournament for a championship win! Congratulations to our Champion Middle School Boys!!

Music Notes

“Make a joyful noise to the Lord all you lands…..come before His presence with singing.” (Psalm 100:1 and 2b) If you pass through the music rehearsal rooms over the next few days and weeks, you will hear the sounds of joyful singing (and ringing) as we prepare for upcoming services and events.

Children’s choirs are preparing for Palm Sunday singing with the adults (and are they excited!!) They are also in rehearsal for their spring musical presentation, “Table for 5,000.” as well as looking ahead to Summer Mini-fest. What a beehive of activity happening with our children’s music ministry.

Jubilate had a reunion rehearsal and what a joyful time it was! Preparations are ongoing to sing at worship services, both at Andrews Chapel, April 24 and at our downtown campus in the very near future.

Men’s Choir is in the process of formation and rehearsals. This group is very excited and motivated to bring back some of the ‘old gospel’ sounds with which we are familiar. If you want to be a part of this group, talk to Gene Smith or John Yarbrough. They have all the facts!! What a great time this is going to be.

Sanctuary Choir is enjoying growth by welcoming new members Carrie Rudy and Patrick Teer to our midst. Wouldn’t you like to help fill those few chairs left in the loft? You know, they are the ‘best seats in the house.’ All are welcome.
